YAPP, SOUTO, KRAUSE, STYER HEAD INTO FINAL FOUR

Aloysius Yapp, Jonas Souto, Mickey Krause, and Tyler Styer have booked their places in the semi-finals of the 2025 UK Open Pool Championship after a gripping Day Five in Telford. Meanwhile, British hopes came to a close as home favourite Jayson Shaw exited the tournament in the quarterfinals, missing out on a first UK Open title.

Now in its fourth edition, the UK’s premier pool tournament runs from May 6–11, with the final stages broadcast across the UK & Ireland on Sky Sports, and across USA on WNT TV.

In a repeat of their 2021 US Open final showdown, Aloysius Yapp faced Carlo Biado in the Last 16. The Singaporean star wasted no time, storming to an 8–0 lead after a string of costly errors from Biado. Although Biado snatched racks nine and ten to threaten a comeback, a missed 3–6 combo in rack eleven handed Yapp the opening he needed to wrap up a 10–2 victory. Yapp then faced Phuong Nam Pham, who had advanced after knocking out Reyes Cup teammate Duong Quoc Hoang. Yapp stayed composed and clinical, racing to a 10–3 win to secure his first-ever UK Open semi-final appearance.

Jonas Souto continued his sensational run in Telford with two emphatic wins. After dismantling Mateusz Śniegocki 10–2, the Spaniard came up against crowd favourite Jayson Shaw. Souto raced to a 6–1 lead as Shaw struggled with errors and poor positioning. Despite brief signs of a fightback, Souto remained dominant, sealing a 10–3 win to deny Shaw a chance at a maiden UK crown.

Mickey Krause had to dig deep across two nail-biting encounters. He edged past Pijus Labutis 10–8 in a tense Last 16 battle, before meeting Frazer Patrick, who had made history as the first Brit to reach a UK Open quarterfinal. The match saw long safety exchanges and momentum swings, but Krause surged to a 9–4 lead. Patrick clawed back to 9–7, but a well-executed safety from Krause in rack seventeen forced the error he needed to close out the match 10–7.

Tyler Styer continued his strong run on Day Four with a commanding 10-3 win over Naoyuki Oi, capped off by a golden break in the final rack to secure his quarter-final spot. The American then faced off against Poland’s Wiktor Zielinski, who had earlier edged past Aleksa Pecelj 10-8. Zielinski took control early, building a lead and keeping Styer at bay. But the American battled back, levelling the match in the sixteenth rack after a costly error from Zielinski. A second golden break from Styer in the following rack put him on the hill, but a dry break opened the door for a late Polish comeback. Zielinski looked poised to capitalise but faltered on a tricky 7–8 combination, allowing Styer to clear the table and clinch the decisive rack.

The semi-finals take place tomorrow, with Mickey Krause facing Jonas Souto to kick off the action at 12 pm BST.

The 2025 Jayson Shaw Junior Open
The Jayson Shaw Junior Open concluded in style as rising star Felix Vogel edged past close friend Laurenz Geitz in the final. Geitz began with a blistering three-rack run, but Vogel—the reigning Saudi Junior Champion—fought back to reach the hill. Despite a misstep on the 8-ball in rack thirteen, Vogel pounced on Geitz’s following error to seal the match.

The young German talent clinched a 9–4 victory, lifting the JS Junior Open title and the $2,500 top prize. The event welcomed players aged 17 and under from around the world, all vying for a share of the $10,000 prize fund and a moment on the Matchroom stage.

Live rack-by-rack scoring will be available throughout the event at www.wntlivescores.com.
