SHAW LEADS THE CHARGE INTO FILIPINO-DOMINATED LAST 16
The field is set for the Last 16 of the Mansion Sports Hanoi Open, with defending champion Jayson Shaw advancing alongside a powerhouse Filipino contingent at the Hanoi Indoor Games Gymnasium in Vietnam.
Returning for its second edition, the highly anticipated Hanoi Open Pool Championship is presented in partnership with leading sports investment firm Mansion Sports & Entertainment Group and renowned broadcaster Vietcontent.
Shaw's momentum carried into the fourth day, with two commanding wins as he continues his impressive title defence. Shaw first faced young American Landon Hollingsworth in the Last 64 and quickly built a 7-3 lead. However, Hollingsworth fought back, capitalising on a few errors to close in on Shaw, who waited on the hill. Just when it seemed Landon would level the score, a crucial missed 3-ball allowed Shaw back to the table, where he fluked the 9-ball to claim a narrow 10-8 victory.
Shaw wasted no time in the Last 32, delivering a dominant 10-3 win over China’s Wang Ming, becoming the first player to qualify for the Last 16 as he continues his relentless title defence.

The pursuit of a maiden Hanoi Open title ended abruptly for World Champion Fedor Gorst, who had to concede his match against James Aranas due to illness. The Dodong Diamond Aranas advanced to the Last 16 after a dramatic 10-8 win over Chang Yu Lung, sealing his place in the next stage.
Ko Ping Chung put on a show in his Last 64 match, notching a golden break to secure a 10-6 win over Michael Baonan. Ko continued his strong form, overpowering Shane Wolford 10-4 to join his brother Ko Pin Yi in the Last 16. Ko Pin Yi, meanwhile, toppled Americans Max Eberle and Tyler Styer to also progress.
In a major upset, Vietnam's rising star Duong Quoc Hoang was knocked out by Dean Shields in a tense 10-8 match. Shields delivered a decisive 4-9 combo to send the Reyes Cup star home. However, Shields' run ended in the Last 32, as Spain's David Alcaide overpowered him 10-3 to advance. Alcaide will be joined in the Last 16 by fellow Spaniard Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, who secured two solid victories over Raymund Faraon and Kuo Po Cheng.
Shane Van Boening faced a nail-biting Last 64 match against European Open champion Mickey Krause. The Danish Viking led 9-6 and seemed poised for victory, but a dry break gave Van Boening a chance to fight back. The South Dakota Kid managed to level the match, but a self-inflicted snooker on the 4-ball forced a jump shot attempt, which he missed. Krause, with the win in sight, twitched on a routine 5-ball, allowing Van Boening to steal the match 10-9.
Van Boening then met Italy’s Francesco Candela in the Last 32, where he delivered a commanding 10-2 victory to reach the Last 16 of the Hanoi Open for the first time.
Last year’s Hanoi Junior Open champion AJ Manas faced former World Champion Carlo Biado in the Last 32. Despite Manas taking an early lead, Biado staged a comeback in a tense, back-and-forth encounter. Both players capitalised on each other’s mistakes, but it was a failed safety by Manas in the final rack that handed Biado the victory, sending the junior champion out and propelling Biado into the Last 16.
Biado joins a Filipino-dominated Last 16 lineup, which includes James Aranas, Johann Chua, Jeffrey Ignacio, Jefrey Roda, and Mansion Sports Hanoi Open qualifier Harry Vergara. With six Filipino cueists poised to face off against top players from around the globe, the Last 16 promises to deliver thrilling action.

REYES CUP STARS KAÇI AND YAPP KNOCKED OUT ON DAY THREE
Eklent Kaçi and Aloysius Yapp suffered surprising early exits, while Jayson Shaw continues his title defence into the Last 64 of the 2024 Mansion Sports Hanoi Open, taking place from October 8-13 at the Hanoi Indoor Games Gymnasium, Vietnam.
Returning for its second edition, the highly anticipated Hanoi Open Pool Championship is presented in partnership with leading sports investment firm Mansion Sports & Entertainment Group and renowned broadcaster Vietcontent.
Reyes Cup stars Eklent Kaçi of Team Europe and Aloysius Yapp of Team Asia, the first to qualify for their respective sides, were knocked out early on the third day. Kaçi started strong with an 8-5 victory over Jake Newlove, but was later eliminated by 2022 World Pool Masters finalist Lo Ho Sum, who claimed a 9-6 win. Yapp’s hopes of a Hanoi Open title ended after a tough 8-4 defeat to Jundel Mazon earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, defending champion Jayson Shaw continues to impress, advancing to the Last 64 with a commanding 9-2 victory over Nguyen Van Hai. World Champion Fedor Gorst and former World Champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz joined Shaw in the next stage, after solid wins against Antonios Kakaris and Max Eberle, respectively, keeping their hopes alive for their first Hanoi Open titles.
Filipino duo Johann Chua and Carlo Biado kept their strong form ahead of the inaugural Reyes Cup. Both secured spots in the Last 64, with Chua defeating Luong Van Nam and Biado dispatching Salvador Garcia. Their fellow Team Asia member, Duong Quoc Hoang, also advanced after a dominant 9-1 win over Roland Garcia, sealing the victory with a brilliant 4-9 combo.
AJ Manas, the reigning Hanoi Junior Open champion, showcased his talent with a thrilling victory over the Danish Viking Mickey Krause. Despite racing to a 4-0 lead, Manas found himself in a hill-hill battle. With the pressure mounting, Manas played a push-out safety on the 2-ball. Krause declined the shot, and Manas capitalised, executing a superb jump shot and clearing the table to win the deciding rack.
Krause, however, found redemption in Losers' Qualification, where he bounced back with a 9-5 win against Vietnamese star Nguyen Anh Tuan to secure his place in the next round.
After a narrow loss to Chinese Taipei’s Wang Hung Hsiang, Jonas Souto made a comeback in his second match, eliminating Fitim Haradinaj 9-3 to continue his run in the tournament. In a similar fashion, World Cup of Pool champion James Aranas moved into Losers’ Qualification after losing 9-5 to his Marboys teammate Jefrey Roda. Aranas then faced Do Van Khai, where he dominated with a 9-4 victory to advance to the next stage.

Returning for its second edition, the highly anticipated Hanoi Open Pool Championship is presented in partnership with leading sports investment firm Mansion Sports & Entertainment Group and renowned broadcaster Vietcontent.
The five-time US Open champion, Shane Van Boening, began his hunt for a maiden Hanoi Open title in commanding style. "The South Dakota Kid" dominated his first match with a 9-3 win over Nguyen Van Viet. Van Boening continued his momentum, securing a 9-4 victory over Dang Thanh Kien to confirm his place in Winners’ Qualification.
Ko Pin Yi followed the path set by his brothers on the opening day, registering back-to-back victories against Nguyen Su Linh and Nguyen Quang Hiep, earning his spot in the next stage. Fellow Reyes Cup Team Asia star, Duong Quoc Hoang, also advanced to Winners' Qualification after a bye in his first match, followed by a 9-6 win over Nguyen Cong Hoang.
European Open champion Mickey Krause kicked off his campaign in search of a second Matchroom Major title this year. Krause comfortably dispatched Luu Van Viet 9-3 in his opening match before edging out Filipino Raymund Farraon in a thrilling hill-hill battle to secure his place in Winners’ Qualification.
Mosconi Cup captain Skyler Woodward mirrored Van Boening's strong start, delivering a resounding 9-2 win over Nguyen Duc Anh in his opener. In a closely contested second match, Woodward fought hard to claim a 9-7 victory against Chinese Taipei's Liu Chien Hung.
Last year’s Hanoi Junior Open champion, AJ Manas, made his mark on the main event this year. Manas displayed impressive form as he powered past Venus Lim and John Carlo to secure his spot in the next round.
Eklent Kaçi rebounded from his opening-day loss, returning to face Nguyen The Hien. Despite an early setback, Kaçi turned the match around, securing an 8-4 win to stay in the running.
Polish star Wiktor Zielinski had a tough start, losing 9-7 in his debut against Hanoi Open qualifier Dao Phuc An. However, Zielinski made a strong recovery in Losers' Qualification, riding a five-rack streak to overcome Dang Thanh Kien 8-6 and stay in contention. Also surviving Losers' Qualification was Singaporean ace Aloysius Yapp. Like Kaçi, Yapp fell short on day one but bounced back with a dominant 8-2 victory over Luong Van Nam to keep his Hanoi Open campaign alive.

JAYSON SHAW SOARS ON OPENING DAY TO KICK OFF TITLE DEFENCE
Jayson Shaw launched his title defence in impressive fashion at the 2024 Mansion Sports Hanoi Open, held from October 8-13 at the vibrant Hanoi Indoor Games Gymnasium, Vietnam.
Returning for its second edition, the highly anticipated Hanoi Open Pool Championship is presented in partnership with leading sports investment firm Mansion Sports & Entertainment Group and renowned broadcaster Vietcontent.
‘Eagle Eye’ Shaw breezed through his first match, defeating Nguyen Dat Phi with a dominant 9-1 victory. He then faced Hai Long Le in a much tighter contest, edging out a 9-7 win to advance to the Winners' Qualification stage and continue his title defence.
Joining the defending champion was World Champion and WNT No. 1 Fedor Gorst, who had a rocky start to his campaign. Gorst fell 3-0 behind against Nguyen Hoang Phong before staging a comeback to secure a 9-6 victory. His struggles persisted in the next round, where he found himself in a hill-hill battle against Nguyen Duc Thang. In a tense final rack, Gorst capitalised on a safety exchange to execute a 4-9 carom, clinching his spot in the Winners' Qualification.
Living up to his nickname ‘El Ferrari’, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz cruised through his first match with a 9-0 whitewash of Nguyen Van Toan. He continued his strong form, defeating Do Khai 9-3 to join his Reyes Cup teammate Shaw in the Winners’ Qualification.
Team Asia’s Filipino duo, Johann Chua and Carlo Biado, also secured their places in Winners' Qualification. Chua was the first to qualify, thanks to back-to-back wins over Luong Van Nam and Ta Van Linh. Biado, the former World Champion, followed suit by overcoming two Chinese Taipei cueists, Wang Chih-Yung and Sun Yi Hsuan.
Eklent Kaçi, the first European qualifier for both the Reyes Cup and Mosconi Cup, made a strong start with a commanding 9-1 win over Duong Manh Tien. However, Kaçi’s fortunes took a turn in his second match, as he was upset by Vietnamese qualifier Lo Van Xuan. A stunning 5-9 kickshot combo by Lo off Kaçi’s safety propelled the Albanian into Losers' Qualification.
Robbie Capito, the UK Open champion, also made his Hanoi Open debut. Despite struggling early, losing 5-4 to Le Ngoc Tuan, Capito bounced back with a 9-6 win in his first match. He carried that momentum into his next game, whitewashing Adam Mscisz from Poland 9-0.
The Ko brothers, former US Open champion Ko Ping Chung and Ko Pin Han, both progressed to Winners' Qualification after notching two victories apiece. Ko Ping Chung particularly impressed, putting together a six-rack run to dispatch Nguyen Hoang Tuan 9-2 to enter the next stage.
Kunihiko Takahashi, the 1998 World Champion, made his World Nineball Tour debut at the age of 55. In his opening match, he bested Australia's Matt Edwards 9-7. However, Takahashi's journey faltered in his second match, as he fell 9-7 to Nguyen Van Hai, sending him into Losers' Qualification for a chance at redemption.
