Well, nobody has mentioned it, and I'm a bit surprised to be honest, but I know it will be quite a culture shock to anyone who hasn't visited the site for a while to see so many adverts on Pro9. I know they are a bit distracting and the site doesn't quite "feel" the same, but I hope people appreciate that they are, at the very worst, a necessary evil and that they can manage to overlook the intrusion. At times, I work pretty tirelessly on the website and apart from the sheer love of it, there's not much point doing that for nothing, which is what I did for several years before inheriting the site. Hopefully, people can see the necessity, and if they're planning to purchase, gamble or rent something on the internet they will use one of the links on Pro9 and support the site (goodness knows I could do with the cash - my laptop has been on the fritz for many moons now and has finally gone kaploeee and I'm working on borrowed equipment at moment - my new computer arrives tomorrow - all on the credit card). I also desperately need a decent new camera capable of taking good quality photos in dimly lit pool halls AND a Dictaphone for the interviews, ohhh woe is me, the list is endless! Anyway, I'm interested in hearing what people have to say, (go easy on me now) love 'em or hate 'em, they're here to stay I'm afraid. Hopefully if you feel very negatively you can find it in your heart to ignore them like the adverts on TV and, conversely, if you have any positive suggestions I'd be pleased to hear them. All-in-all, if a few adverts mean that I can attend and report on a few more events in person, then where's the harm?

Yeah not surprised you need to try to get something back Dave, and at least the ads are quite subtle and not pop-ups!
By the way, I could bring my digital camera to Colchester for you to borrow Dave... not sure if you are coming this weekend?

The ads are no big problem at all. You do a great job with this site and obviously put a lot of hard work in for the benefit of all of us. Have you got that dictophone yet? If not I'll be glad to donate one. I can bring it to Colchester or you can get in touch with me via Ted or Si Dvali. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2006-05-10 10:59 ]

I dont see them as a problem either Dave, for you to provide some income for all the work you carry out on this wonderful site. Good luck mate. -----------------

Ahhh, thanks everyone, I'm surprised no one seems to mind to be honest, when I visit a site with no new content and a lot of adds I just don't go there, and I was worried there might be some kind of backlash as there hadn't been ads on Pro9 beforehand. Thanks for the offer of equipment but I'm going to try to get some stuff on a "try-before-you-buy" deal. I'm hoping the Samsung Pro815 camera will be able to handle the low light levels in pool clubs, because it seems perfect for all other reasons... And a dictaphone with a USB connector so that I can download the interview directly onto my computer for transciption. I can't wait! Any other suggestions for the site?

Actually... I HAVE been thinking about making the recordings of the post match interviews available as a clickable link at the top of the article. I think it would really add value to the article and bandwidth is cheap. Podcasting seems an even better idea - I'll definitely be looking into it.

I think it'll need to be a better quality recording at some stage, but it should be good enough for a bit of fun initially.
