BCA Re-Elects Philippe Singer as 2024-2025 Board Chairman

Superior, Colo. – March 26, 2024 – During its general membership meeting in Las Vegas, NV., on March 20, 2024, the Billiard Congress of America announced the results of its 2024-2025 Board of Directors elections, which are as follows:

Category 1 (Manufacturer/Distributor)

• Wes Bond (Koda Sports), three-year term

• Colby Olhausen (Olhausen Mfg), three-year term

In the follow-up election of BCA officers, Philippe Singer (The Predator Group) accepted a one-year term as BCA Board Chairman, as did each of the remaining seated officers: Vice Chairman Jacklyn Ady (Brunswick Billiard Group); Secretary Maria Trent-Martinez (Pool Tables Plus of Daytona Beach); and Treasurer Trey Stites (Valley, Dynamo and Champion Shuffleboard). The remaining directors include: Shane Bouchard (Maine Home Recreation); Debbie Corvey (Boyton Beach Billiards); and Ed Liddawi (Sandcastle Billiards).

2024 BCA EXPO DRAWS TO CLOSE IN LAS VEGAS ON HIGH NOTE

Buyer Attendance up 64%

Longmont, Colo. – April 12, 2024 – The 2024 edition of the Billiard Congress of America’s BCA Expo was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, March 19 – 21, 2024 in partnership with the Amusement Expo International.

Total buyer attendance for this year’s BCA Expo was up 63% from last year’s event.

“It really made a huge difference for all the major industry influencers coming back together in the same location” said BCA Chairman Philippe Singer. “Not only was there a real energy on the show floor, but the synergy from a spring date, co-locating with the Amusement Expo, and members being excited really made this Expo one of the best Expos in the past 20 years. We are moving in the right direction, and everybody is looking forward to what is next!”

This year, with the assistance of many of the BCA Expo exhibitors, the BCA organized an offsite Denim and Diamonds Industry Party, Wednesday, March 20 at the Stirling Club in Las Vegas, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. With longtime Billiard Digest Publisher Mike Panozzo commenting, “The party’s execution was excellent, I had such a great time I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year.”

In addition to two days of the BCA Expo’s show floor activity, the Business of Billiards Seminar Series offered two seminars specifically designed to home table installers that provided tangible and immediately implementable information to all in attendance.

“This year’s two featured seminars: “The Ins and Outs of the New Valley Dynamo” and “The Secrets of the Brunswick Gold Crown VI” helped launch the BCA’s new Certified Installer program, said BCA Board Director Shane Bouchard. “We look forward to continuing these installer educational courses and as well as expanding the educational experience in 2025 and beyond.”

“The decision of the BCA Board to move to an earlier time of year and co-locate with AEI’s Amusement Expo is going to have positive impact for the association for many years to come,” said BCA CEO Shane Tyree. “Over 50% of the BCA exhibitor floor space is already sold for 2025, any exhibitor not committed to next year yet needs to take advantage of the early bird rates and premium space that are still available. We fully anticipate next year’s BCA floor space to sell out.”

We are thrilled to announce that Heyball has transitioned from a pool code governed by an Affiliated International Federation to a discipline directly overseen by the WPA!

Heyball is now officially recognized as a WPA discipline, underscoring its growing popularity and significance within the global pool community. This move reflects our dedication to supporting emerging pool sports.

WPA President Ishaun Singh remarked, "We are delighted to welcome Heyball as a directly governed discipline under the WPA. The new Advisory Council for Heyball will include appointed members who will aid in governing the discipline. The Board, in consultation with Continental Members, will appoint members and establish procedural rules for the Council.

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – 2 June 2024: Sports fans’ wait for Saudi Arabia’s latest international sporting event is finally over as the World Pool Championship gets underway at the Green Halls, Jeddah on Monday.

The ‘Crown Jewel’ of the World Nineball Tour (WNT), the World Pool Championship represents the sport’s grandest stage and is the most prestigious event on the professional Nineball circuit.

In partnership with the Saudi Arabian Billiard & Snooker Federation (SABSF) and Ministry of Sport, the 2024 edition makes its first-ever appearance in the Kingdom from June 3-8 – welcoming 128 of the planet’s premier cueists for six days of action-packed competition.

The field, which includes the world’s top 100 alongside 28 wildcard entrants, will battle it out for historic glory with a record-breaking prize pool and the sport’s pinnacle title at stake. Ahead of the event, local and international media came together for the official press conference on Sunday, which set the scene for another outstanding chapter in the Kingdom’s sports evolution.

Dr. Nasser Saab Al-Shammari, President of SABSF, said: “New sporting history is about to be written in Saudi Arabia – and we couldn’t be more excited. After delighting global audiences for over three decades while emerging as a phenomenal event loved and admired by millions, we are thrilled that the World Pool Championship is making its inaugural appearance in the Kingdom.

“History shows us that each edition of this illustrious competition is always special – and 2024 will be no different. A truly global event, the 2024 World Pool Championship will be broadcast in over 100territories with coverage across 50 televised hours and 100 streaming hours.

Players from over 40 countries will also compete, including defending world champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (Spain), world #2 Fedor Gorst (USA), reigning UK champion Robbie Captio (Hong Kong), and former world champions Joshua Filler (Germany) and Carlo Biado (Philippines).

Ahead of his title defense, top seed Francisco Sanchez Ruiz said: “This is one of a few select events that we look forward to the most as players – I can’t wait. The World Championship is always special, but being here in Saudi Arabia for the first time means there’s an even bigger sense of anticipation. So many huge events have been here recently across all sports – and it’s great our sport is joining this list.”

Another at the press conference was Pia Filler, the first female professional player on the World Nineball Tour. She added: “The opportunities that our sport provides with a level playing field are massive, with many of the world’s best players competing for the ultimate prize this week. It will be an exciting week of play in an incredible destination.”

Alongside the sport’s biggest names, 13 Saudi Arabian players will also compete as wildcards, fulfilling their lifelong dreams of competing in the World Pool Championship – which also stands as one of two WNT blue ribbon events alongside the US Open.

Ahmed Al Jabbar elaborated on the significance of the occasion, crediting the World Pool Championship as a certain source of inspiration for present and future generations of Saudi players: “Years from now, when the best Saudi players competing internationally are asked what inspired them to take up this sport; they will say the 2024 World Pool Championship in Jeddah. This is the legacy that this week will leave behind.”

Saudi Arabia is one of the fastest-growing countries in world sport – a journey being propelled by Vision 2030, which seeks to increase weekly participation in sports, cultivate a sports economy, and elevate local athletes’ international competitiveness.

Since its inception in 2015, Vision 2030 has inspired never-before-seen levels of engagement and participation across the Kingdom. Within this time, nationwide sports participation has risen by 300%, female weekly activity by 400%, and organised sports groups by 800%.

Pro Billiard Series World Championships in New Zealand: Strong Fields and Positive Developments

The Pro Billiard Series is thrilled to announce that the World Championships in New Zealand are progressing exceptionally well, with a strong field of competitors and impressive performances across all categories. The event continues to showcase the very best of international billiards, reinforcing our commitment to growing the sport on the global stage.

In the women’s division, the quarterfinal matches highlighted the competitive intensity of the tournament, with each match lasting approximately 45 racks – equivalent to a race to 26 or 27. These extended matches have allowed players to display their full range of skills and endurance, further enhancing the excitement for fans and participants alike.

We have also received valuable feedback from players regarding potential improvements to the playing rules. At Pro Billiard Series, we remain dedicated to fostering a positive and competitive environment for our athletes. While we are the event organizers, we would like to remind everyone that the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) is the official ruling body for all regulations governing these events. We will be communicating the players’ suggestions to the WPA to ensure their voices are heard and considered for future tournaments.

WPA Sanctions the Peri Open

Earlier this year in light of the long-standing relationship between the WPA and Matchroom, and in the best interests of our athletes, the WPA made a gesture of goodwill. On 7 February 2024, the WPA resolved to sanction the following Matchroom tournaments in 2024 without requiring a sanctioning fee:

• Premier League Pool
• World Pool Masters
• U.K. Open Pool Championship
• World Cup of Pool
• European Open Pool Championship
• U.S. Open Pool Championship
• Mosconi Cup

Recently the WPA has made it clear that if players participate in the Hanoi Open (which has refused to seek WPA sanctioning) then the athletes will be choosing not to participate in WPA Sanctioned Tournaments for 6 months after that event.

It has now come to the WPA’s attention that the Peri Open is a Category 4 international Tournament and will have added prize money of USD $46,000. Whilst ultimately athletes are responsible to determine if a Pool Event is an unsanctioned event that should be sanctioned, the WPA has resolved that since it nominated the Hanoi Open as the event where athletes are making a choice that it will stand by that decision.

In the circumstance the WPA has resolved in the best interests of the Athletes to sanction the Peri Open with an Imposed Sanction under its regulations. Please note that athletes won’t receive ranking points, but they will be able to participate without affecting their WPA Athlete License.

Efren Reyes and Karl Boyes are set to captain Team Asia and Team Europe, respectively, for the highly anticipated Reyes Cup, taking place from 15-18 October 2024 at the spectacular Ninoy Aquino National Stadium in Manila, Philippines.

This landmark event will see Asia’s finest players face off against Europe’s best in an exciting new fixture on the World Nineball Tour showcased across the globe through local broadcaster Cignal TV, as well Sky Sports across the UK.

The Reyes Cup is set to mirror the format of the prestigious Mosconi Cup, bringing together two elite teams over four thrilling days of competition. A total of 21 matches, including singles and doubles, will be played, with each match a race to 5. The first team to reach 11 points will claim victory in what promises to be a fierce contest between two of the world’s strongest teams.

Efren Reyes and Karl Boyes officially met face-to-face during a press conference in Manila today (13 September), setting the stage for an epic showdown at the inaugural Reyes Cup.

At the helm of Team Asia is the legendary Efren "Bata" Reyes, widely regarded as the greatest player in the history of the sport. Reyes, who is beloved in the Philippines and beyond, will lead his team in front of an impassioned home crowd. Reyes expressed his excitement ahead of the event:

“I’ve been waiting for this for so long. Ever since the founding of the Mosconi Cup I’ve wanted something for Asia. Europe will have the edge because of their experience in that arena, but Asia has plenty of skill and talent to get the win. I’m also looking forward to a potential exhibition against fellow captain Karl Boyes.”

Leading Team Europe is the six-time Mosconi Cup champion Karl Boyes, who brings a wealth of experience to Team Europe. Boyes said:

“My Nineball career started back in 2007 with Matchroom in the Philippines, so I know just how big the sport and this event is for the country. I’ve been lucky to be here many times in my career and I cannot wait to lead out Team Europe as captain next month, it is going to be very special.”

Aloysius Yapp, Johan Chua, and Ko Pin Yi are the first to qualify and will lead the charge for Team Asia, while Eklent Kaçi, Mickey Krause, and Joshua Filler form the forefront of Team Europe. Reyes and Boyes are set to select two wild cards to complete their squads this coming October. With the very best talent from both continents set to compete, the Reyes Cup is sure to become a flagship event on the global pool calendar.

Scheduled to run from 15-18 October, the tournament will unfold across four evenings at the Ninoy Aquino National Stadium in Manila.
