JUSTIN HIGHTOWER DEFENDS TITLE!
Cuemakers International 9-Ball Championship 2014Some of the finest cuemakers from all over the USA and Canada met in Edison, New Jersey at the Super Billiards Expo for the 2014 Cuemakers International 9-Ball Championship. The players field was filled with cuemakers from both the American Cuemakers Association and the International Cuemakers Association as well as some independent cuemakers. The tournament was played in a true single elimination format. The top half of the bracket saw Georgia cuemaker and 2013 defending champion Justin Hightower of Hightower Custom Cues make his way through a tough field to the finals. His opponent in the finals was Illinois cuemaker Mike Durbin of Durbin Cues. Both players were playing great and the match was close in the alternate break format tournament, but when it was all over Justin Hightower took home the title of the International 9-Ball Champion of Cuemakers once again for 2014. The event was the third annual Cuemakers International 9-Ball Championship and was held as a charity benefit for the Galilean Childrens Home in Liberty, Kentucky. The Galilean Childrens Home has helped countless children and special needs adults for a few decades now. All entry fees and cash donations went directly to help the Childrens Home. Some cuemakers paid much more than the entry fee and others who were unable to play came by and donated just to help the Children. When all was said and done the cuemakers tournament raised over $1200 for the Childrens Home. Next year's event will be held during the Super Billiards Expo. A special word of appreciation needs to be given to all the event sponsors: the International Cuemakers Association, Mad Man Handcrafted Tips, G2 Premium Tips, True Heart Billiard Cues, Dennis Dieckman and Cue Man Billiard Products. And thanks most of all to the cuemakers for their generous donations and participation. Our cuemaking industry indeed has some generous quality individuals representing it. If interested in sponsoring, donating to or playing in the 2015 event contact Chris Hightower at cueman@cuesmith.com for more information. BCA Seeks Candidates for Board of Directors SeatsBroomfield, Colo. - March 25, 2014 - The Billiard Congress of America (BCA) announces a call for nominations for Board of Directors seats for the 2014-2015 Board year. The 2014 Nominating Committe is currently accepting nominations for a total of three (3) available Board seats. Two seats are in Category 1 (Manufacturer/Distributor) category, and one seat is in Category 2 (Billiard Retailer). All seats are for a three year term in office. BCA members can nominate themselves or a colleague for these positions. Candidates for the Board seats must be current members of the BCA, be designated as the representative for the member company and qualify in the appropriate member category. The following are the open positions available on the BCA Board: • Manufacturer/Distributor Seats - Candidates must qualify as a manufacturer or distributor to apply for the Manufacturer/Distributor Seats. This means the organization the candidate represents is a licensed business entity with its principle business in the manufacture or wholesale distribution of billiard equipment or accessories. These seats are for three-year terms. • Billiard Retailer Seat - Candidates must qualify as a billiard retailer to apply for the Billiard Retailer Seat. This means the organization the candidate represents is a licensed business entity with its principle business in the selling of billiard equipment or billiard accessories from an established, publicly know place of business. This seat is for a three-year term. The process the committee will use in making these appointments is as follows: In order to select the best candidates, the decision will be based on the needs of the organization and the information provided by potential candidates. Each nominee will be provided a Candidate Data Form that is designed to allow candidates to tell the committee why they are the best candidate for the position at this time. All candidates are required to complete all five sections of this candidate data form. The Candidate Data Form is comprised of sections that ask specific questions about the candidates: • BCA Member Status • Billiards Industry Volunteer Experience • Professional Job Experience and Responsibilities • Potential Contributions to the BCA and Committee Interest • Vision for BCA • Consent to Run and Serve by Member Entity • Indication of Willingness to Follow BCA Policies and Procedures The nominating committee will review the forms, follow up with phone interviews if necessary and propose a slate of candidates for all open positions. The committee will then notify the BCA secretary, in writing, of the names of the candidates. All candidates will be contacted as to whether they have been slated or not by Friday, May 9, 2014. Candidates unsuccessful in being slated will be asked if they want to contribute to the organization in other ways, such as through committee participation. Candidates interested in running or those wishing to nominate a candidate should contact Shane Tyree, BCA membership and communications manager, at shane@bca-pool.com. Those who are nominated will receive a Candidate Data Form via e-mail no later than the next business day. The form is also available for download as a PDF file on the BCA Web site or at: 2014 Candidate Data Form. The nomination should include a message stating the candidate name, title, company and complete contact information (including e-mail address) along with a message identifying the position to which the person is being nominated. The Candidate Data Form must be completed by the candidate and returned by 5:00 p.m. MDT, Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in order to be considered for a position. Completed forms should be returned to Shane Tyree, BCA membership and communications manager, at shane@bca-pool.com or via fax at 303-243-5075. Williams – Pressure On World Qualifier Two-time Crucible king Mark Williams will have to face the qualifying rounds of the Dafabet World Championship next month and admits he’d hate to miss out on snooker’s Theatre of Dreams. The Welshman lifted the famous trophy in 2000 and 2003 and has won 18 ranking titles in all, but has dropped out of the world’s top 16 this season so has to win one qualifying match to earn a spot at the Crucible for the televised stages. The qualifiers at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre run from April 8 to 16. The final round will be on April 15 and 16, with the winners to go through to the Crucible to be drawn at random against the top 16 seeds. “I haven’t had to qualify many times in the past but I’ve got to do it now,” said 39-year-old Welshman Williams. “It’s not nice but I just have to get on with it. I don’t want to finish the season sitting at home rather than being at the Crucible. There’s a lot of pressure on everyone in that final qualifying round.” Williams was out of the top 16 in 2009 but came through the qualifying round, beating Tom Ford 10-5. He has been ever-present at the Crucible since 1997. “That’s a good record and it would be nice to keep it going,” he added. “If I don’t make it then it’s up to me to get back into the top 16 next season to make sure I don’t have to qualify again.” Graeme Dott, the 2006 World Champion, and two-time finalist Matthew Stevens will be among the other stars in the final qualifying round, while legends Steve Davis and Jimmy White will start their campaign earlier in the event. Both may need to win matches to keep their place on the World Snooker Tour. Tickets for the qualifiers cost just £10 for a full day, exceptional value for the chance to see many leading players competing in snooker's biggest tournament. BOOK YOUR TICKETS NOW by calling the box office on 0114 2233777 or visiting www.sivtickets.com There is also a SPECIAL OFFER of any three days for £20. Quote 'Special Offer'. Students can buy all-day tickets for the two Tuesdays for just £5 (limited offer). Quote 'Student Tuesday'. Please note there is no play on Monday April 14 due to the tables being re-covered. The Dafabet World Championship is supported by Sheffield City Council. The final stages run from April 19 to may 5 at the Crucible - for ticket details call 0844 65 65 147 or visit Sheffieldtheatres.co.uk

In his new role, Collett’s responsibilities will include CSI live streaming, recorded content management, print ad development, website graphics, YouTube channel management, Facebook pages management, and much more.Over the last seven years as the face of TAR, Collett has been the industry leader in live streaming of billiards events and has built an impeccable reputation of customer service and quality. In that time, TAR produced 39 challenge matches featuring many of the best players on the planet with unique formats and stunning quality. Earlier this year, Collett announced that TAR 39, Shane Van Boening vs. Efren Reyes, would be the last TAR match. However, as one door closed another opened. Ozzy Reynolds, the new CSI Manager, saw an opportunity and led the effort to obtain Collett. He explains that “it is extremely rare to find a person with Justin’s knowledge, skills, and reputation right at your fingertips. It only took a few minutes of conversation with Justin to realize that he is what we need.” After that final TAR match, Collett assumed that he would begin a new chapter in his life that did not involve billiards. However, after several discussions with Reynolds, it became clear that they had common goals. Collett explained his decision to join CSI by saying, “I believe that with the new direction it’s taking, CSI can build something special and I would like to be a part of it.” With this move, CSI can now consolidate many previously outsourced activities and better control its product. Additionally, Collett brings a wealth of industry knowledge and relationships that will allow CSI to strengthen its position. Please join us in welcoming Justin Collett to the CSI team! CSI is dedicated to providing more choices for all players. CSI is the parent company of the BCA Pool League (BCAPL), USA Pool League (USAPL), US Bar Table Championships, Jay Swanson Memorial,US Open One Pocket Championship, US Open 8-Ball Championship, US Open 10-Ball Championship, and much more. The Rocket is dominating the Wyoming Open So far...Saratoga, Wyoming- Rodney Morris recently posted on his Facebook to his fans that he is going to show the world he is still a force to be reckoned with. And he has. The 7th Annual Andy Cloth Wyoming Open consists of 3 Pro Events as well as 3 Divisions for amateurs. Morris has already won 2 of the 3 tournaments including a whitewashing of USA's #1 Shane Van Boening. The 3 day Rocky Mountain pool extravaganza is taking place now and is widely considered to be the most anticipated tournament that players in this part of America looks forward to each year. Event promoter E.J. Glode manages to bring players of all levels nationwide to Saratoga, including some of the biggest names in the sport. The event is co-promoted by Dragon Promotions and is renowned to be the biggest pool event in the state drawing over 150 players. From beginner, intermediate, expert and pro/open level tournaments will all be available. The event is sponsored by widely popular Andy Cloth, Pechauer Cues, and Master Chalk. Local partners include Duke's Bar & Grill, the Hotel Wolf & Restaurant, and the Riviera Lodge with all events coordinated by Shively Hardware. In the 10-Ball Masters, Morris took down Charlie Williams 6-4 in the opening match, and then defeated his next three opponents including Spain's Marc Vidal. It now came down to the reigning US Open 10-Ball Champion vs the reigning US Open 9-Ball Champion. Facing Van Boening who earlier eliminated Mexico's new champion Ruben Bautista, Morris was just too hot to handle as he blanked Shane 6-0 for the title. In the game of Saratoga which combines 8-Ball and 9-Ball together, Morris went undefeated until he ran into Ruben Bautista who defeated him. Deuel was taking to the new game well as he defeated Charlie Williams and eventually Van Boening in the hot seat. Morris cameback with a vengeance on the one loss side and avenged himself against Bautista, defeated Van Boening again, and then edged Deuel in the finals 9-7 to win the second event in a row. Today will be the final day and it comes down to the 8-Ball Division of the Andy Cloth Wyoming Open. Can Morris win all 3 events? We will soon see!

Sheffield’s Moore To Referee World FinalBrendan Moore will referee the Dafabet World Championship final for the first time in his home city this year. Sheffield born-and-bred Moore has been handed the responsibility of taking charge of snooker’s biggest match after proving himself on the circuit in recent years. He has previously refereed the UK Championship and Masters finals and will now officiate the World final at the Crucible Theatre on May 4 and 5. “Since day one it has been my goal to referee the final at the Crucible,” said the 42-year-old who lives in Meersbrook. “It’s particularly special because it’s in my home town and I live ten minutes away from the venue. “I used to go every year as a fan, I went to ten finals in a row with my dad. I’d be there queuing for tickets in the morning. I never imagined at the time that one day I’d be out there refereeing.” Moore, who used to work as a bus driver in Sheffield and drove past the Crucible every day, started refereeing in 2002 and rose quickly through the ranks. He first officiated at the famous venue in 2008, and in 2012 he took charge of the semi-final between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Matthew Stevens. “I don’t usually get nervous because my attitude is that people are there to watch the players, so as long as I do my job everything will be fine,” he said. “But when I walked out into the one-table set-up at the Crucible for the first time, I felt nerves and I don’t mind admitting that. It’s completely different to any other atmosphere. “We’ll wait and see how I feel on May 4th, but at the moment I can’t wait, it will be a fantastic experience for me.” The tournament starts on April 19 and will feature the best players on the planet competing for a record top prize of £300,000. Tickets and VIP packages for certain sessions are still available, for the latest availability call 0844 65 65 147 or visit Sheffieldtheatres.co.uk The Dafabet World Championship is supported by Sheffield City Council.

REANNE Evans laid down a marker ahead of the women’s world snooker championships later this month by claiming her third ranking title of the season.A 4-0 victory over defending champion Maria Catalano landed the 28-year-old the 2014 Connie Gough Memorial at Dunstable Snooker Club. The West Midlands wonder woman, who is bidding for a tenth successive world title, admitted: “I didn’t give her many chances.” Breaks of 31, 64 and the day’s highest of 87 ended world number one Catalano’s hopes of lifting the trophy for the third year running. Earlier, Evans edged Hong Kong star Ng On Yee in a fifth-frame decider in the semi-finals. While acknowledging that Ng is a contender for the world crown, Evans insisted she is not focusing on her rivals but on improving her own game even more. “(On Yee) is definitely one of those up there with Maria but I just concentrate on myself,” she said. “You can’t rely on others to play bad or well; you have to think of your own game. “Snooker’s a weird game. It’s different every day. Hopefully, I can take my form into the World Championship. And step it up a gear, as well.” Catalano was forced to battle back from 2-1 down to see off 17-year-old Hannah Jones 3-2 in the second semi. Derby teenager Jones, who had also beaten former IBSF world championship finalist Jaique Ip Wan In 3-2 in the last-eight and World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association (WLBSA) debutante Diana Tracevic, 14, 2-0 in the Under-21 final, was declared Player of the Tournament and awarded £50. Laura Evans took the Plate trophy home to South Wales and Eva Palmius, from Isleham, Cambs, claimed the Seniors (40+) title. Format Announced For Crucible SnookerThe playing schedule for the 2014 Dafabet World Championship has been announced, with defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan to play in the opening session. O’Sullivan will start his bid for a third consecutive title – and sixth in all – at 10am on Saturday April 19 in the first session of the 17-day tournament. His first round match will conclude in the evening session on the same day. The £1.2million tournament at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield runs until May 5, with 32 players battling for the famous trophy. Andy Cloth 7th Wyoming Open ChampionsSaratoga, Wyoming- Surprises, upsets, and some more of the regular were all the themes played out at the Andy Cloth 7th Wyoming Open. An increased attendance of 190 players competed in the Rocky Mountains billiards extravaganza, including some of the brightest stars of the sport. The Andy Cloth Wyoming Open consisted of 3 Pro Events as well as 3 Divisions for amateurs. “The Andy Cloth Wyoming Open is not only my fun way of seeing all the pro players who have become close friends, but it has also turned into the biggest event of the entire year in my hometown of Saratoga. It has become highly anticipated among the town businesses and that is why I place the dates during the slower season", says E.J. Glode , the Wyoming Open Founder & Promoter. The hottest player into the tournaments was undoubtedly Shane Van Boening, who was coming off his 4th consecutive tournament win during the past 40 days. Which equaled into an equally compelling story, that he left Wyoming with no tournament wins in any of the 3 events. Meanwhile Rodney Morris turned out a stellar performance adding 2 more Wyoming Open titles when he defeated Van Boening in the 10-Ball finals 9-6 and then edging Corey Deuel 9-7 in the Saratoga finals. Morris was now eyeballing the 8-Ball division and a win there would complete his sweep of all the Masters Divisions events. But little did anyone foresee what happened next. Corey Deuel looked primed to take the top bracket finals as he was the only top pro drawn into it. The rest of the pros (Rodney Morris, Raj Hundal, Charlie Williams, and Shane Van Boening) were in the bottom bracket. But Colorado local champion Marc Vidal (originally from Spain) surprised everyone by defeating Charlie Williams, Shane Van Boening, and Rodney Morris in back to back fashion to reach the finals. Deuel eliminated his seemingly only real threat in Mexico's Ruben Bautista in the quarter-finals and then faced off unknown 21 year old Danny Olson of South Dakota. Olson overcame the odds and defeated Deuel to reach his first big finals. To give perspective of the achievement, Van Boening went #1 in the calcutta for $1500 and Morris for $500. Olson was bought for $10. The tables were now turned as Vidal seemed to be the solid favorite after being the underdog in the previous 3 matches. Olson didn't show any jitters as he took a 3-0 lead over Vidal and eventually won 7-4 to become the new Wyoming Open 8-Ball Champion, the first non-pro to do so since 2008 when the event began. In the Wyoming Open amateur divisions, local Wyoming lass Jana Thompson defeated the mostly male field including Heath Kline in the finals of the Sportsman. In the Classic Division, Rob Randolph defeated Jody Miller, while Adam King defeated Donald Parker for the Expert Division title. In the consolation Hard Luck event , Ricardo Martinez defeated Jordan Thayer. The event was co-promoted by Dragon Promotions and sponsored by widely popular Andy Cloth, Pechauer Cues, and Master Chalk. Local partners included Duke's Bar & Grill, the Hotel Wolf & Restaurant, Pik Ranch, Carbon County, Bella's Bistro, and the Riviera Lodge with all events coordinated by Shively Hardware.

The 74th World Tournament of 14.1 August 4-9th in New York CityNew York City, NY - The World Tournament of 14.1 will take place once more in New York City for the third year straight. Dragon Promotions and Dr. Michael Fedak are pleased to announce the 74th production of the oldest billiard event in the world on August 4th-9th, 2014. An even bigger star studded field is expected this year with Steinway Billiards Cafe once more hosting the world's grandest straight pool championship. "The World Tournament has extended the history of the venerable game of 14.1 well into the 21st century. Thorsten Hohmann is now this century's three time champion and Darren Appleton's dramatic 200-and-out game was the kind of "you had to be there" moment that makes it all worthwhile", says Dr. Michael Fedak who has presented this event for five years now. "It's undeniable that this is one of the most looked forward to events of the year for pool enthusiasts. The amount of fan letters and support builds every year that it's overwhelming and rewarding for us", says Charlie Williams, Executive Producer of the World Tournament. Last year's event had standing room only crowds on most of the days. And there were many firsts such as USA's champion Shane Van Boening entering for the first time, China's first 14.1 player in Can Wang, and of course the record shattering performance from England's Darren Appleton in the semi-finals when he ran a perfect 200 against Filipino World Champion Francisco Bustamante. DVDs of last year's events can be acquired by clicking onto this link www.3cushioncues.com/DVDs/cat2041798_1871329.aspx or call 707-533-4727 . "New York City has the best straight pool fans in the world!", said Thorsten Hohmann last year when he won his 3rd World Tournament crown. The perfect gift for yourself or any 14.1 fan: 2013 73rd World Tournament of 14.1boxset.
