Betfair Sponsor The Masters World Snooker is delighted to announce that Betfair will sponsor the Masters for the first time this season. Snooker’s most prestigious invitation event will be known as the Betfair Masters. Featuring 16 of the world's leading players, it will run from January 13 to 20 at Alexandra Palace in London. Betfair is already the title sponsor of the Shoot-Out and the German Masters and the tour sponsor of the European Tour. The company has added to its portfolio of world class snooker tournaments by sponsoring the Masters, one of the most keenly anticipated events on the sporting calendar. It will receive extensive live television coverage from the BBC and will also be broadcast live in 68 countries with highlights coverage in seven others. The estimated global audience is an astonishing 181 million. Australia’s Neil Robertson will be defending the title, having beaten Shaun Murphy 10-6 in last year’s final. Also set to compete for the £175,000 top prize will be the likes of World No 1 and crowd favourite Judd Trump, legend John Higgins and Chinese star Ding Junhui. The first round draw and format is shown below. World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: “It’s a great pleasure to welcome on board Betfair for our biggest and best invitation event. We are already working with them on a range of tournaments so we know what a professional team they are and how much they value the outstanding global exposure they get from snooker. “The Masters is such a wonderful event, with only the elite players invited to compete for the famous trophy. It’s going to be an incredible eight days on the baize at Ally Pally and we look forward to joining Betfair to enjoy the show.” Betfair’s Head of UK Sports Brand Marketing Andy Lulham said: “We are delighted to add The Masters to our World Snooker sponsorship portfolio. It’s exciting to be involved in one of the most prestigious invitation events and it’s a great way to enhance our brand’s position in the sport.” Neil Robertson added: "It's fantastic that Betfair are sponsoring this event. The feeling of winning the Masters last year was amazing, it was up there with winning the World Championship in 2010. Especially as my son was there to watch, that made it extra special. The atmosphere at Ally Pally was brilliant and I can't wait to get back there. "The Masters was the first tournament I ever watched on TV. Someone brought a video of the 1994 final between Stephen Hendry and Alan McManus to my dad's snooker club and I watched it over and over again. I've got great memories of seeing the likes of Hendry and O'Sullivan win it, so to hold the trophy myself was unbelievable." The tournament starts at 1pm on Sunday January 13 with a cracking international match between Robertson and China's Ding Junhui. TICKETS FOR ALL SESSIONS OF THE TOURNAMENT ARE ON SALE NOW! For details call 0871 620 7052 (calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras) or visit www.worldsnooker.com/tickets The final sold out quickly last year so fans are advised to book now. The full first round schedule is: Sunday January 13 1pm: Neil Robertson v Ding Junhui 7pm: Mark Allen v Mark Davis Monday January 14 1pm: John Higgins v Ali Carter 7pm: Stephen Maguire v Graeme Dott Tuesday January 15 1pm: Judd Trump v Barry Hawkins 7pm: Shaun Murphy v Ricky Walden Wednesday January 16 1.30pm: Mark Williams v Matthew Stevens 7pm: Mark Selby v Stuart Bingham

WPBSA Statement The WPBSA have conducted enquiries into the unusual betting patterns surrounding the match between Steve Davis and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh that took place at UKPTC3 on 8th September 2012, where Steve Davis won the match 4-0. The WPBSA process of making enquiries is very thorough and has included liaising with the Gambling Commission and a number of other partners in the betting industry. The WPBSA have found that there is insufficient evidence to show that there has been any breach of the WPBSA Members Rules and will take no further action regarding this matter.

Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball Tournament Marks 17th YearCueSports International, Henderson, Nevada (November 7, 2012) - A time honored tradition returns to southern California for the 17th year. The annual Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball Tournament (the “Swanee”), produced and directed by CueSports International (CSI), will be hosted February 23-24, 2013 by Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, California for the third consecutive year. Young and old, novice and professional players have kept alive the memory of one of the most beloved players in the sport, Jay "The Gentle Giant" Swanson. Jay is fondly remembered for all that he stood for - excellent pool play, great sportsmanship and a gentle spirit. It is no small feat to cash in this event, but history took place in the 2012 Swanee this year. Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan won for a second consecutive year surviving a litany of fellow well known names including former Swanee champions Dave Hemmah (1996), Mitch Ellerman (2009), Amar Kang (2006) and the only other two time winner Morro Paez (1999 and 2001). The Swanee has had a full field of 192 in four of the past five years. Due to the event’s popularity with leading players, CSI has scheduled the Swanee on February 23-24 and the US Bar Table Championship in Reno on February 25-March 3 to accommodate players who wish to play in both. It is recommended that players register in advance to secure a spot. Players may register online at www.ctsondemand.com or by faxing or mailing their entry forms to the CSI office. For further details, including the flyer and entry form, please click ALL UPCOMING EVENTS under the Events tab at www.playbca.com. CueSports International is dedicated to creating more choices for all players. In the past 8 years CSI has directly paid out $8,000,000 to players. CSI is the parent company of the BCA Pool League and the USA Pool League. CSI also produces independent events such as the US Bar Table Championships, the Jay Swanson Memorial, the US Open One Pocket Championship, the US Open 8-Ball Championship and the US Open 10-Ball Championship. Visit www.playcsipool.com, www.playbca.com, and www.playusapool.com for more information about CSI and its divisions.

Hard Times Billiards To Hold: "The End Of The World: Tournament Of The Mayans!"December 21st, 2012 Hard Times Billiards, Bellflower, CA It'll be a long and busy month this December for Bellflower's Hard Times Billiards in SoCal, which is scheduled to host at least 4 tournaments by outside promotors. The most curious of all though will occur on Friday, December 21st, 2012; a date of infamy which the ancient Mayan civilization, self-proclaimed prophets and conspiracy theorists alike say will mark the 'end of days' for all! In association with Kamui Billiard Products, Point Of View Pool (POV Pool), Viking Cues, Andrew Park Cues, The Orange County APA, Max Eberle's 'Pro Pool Academy' & Virtual Pool 4 - Hard Times Billiards will hold the first (and last), "End Of The World: 10-Ball Tournament Of The Mayans!" This $1,000 added, one-day, double elimination tournament is open to only 32 players and is currently taking registrations until the field is full. The entry fee for this event will be $100 which means that with a full field of 32, this event will pay out $4,000 through 8th place. And, since 'the end is near', sponsors of the event have agreed to part with over 50 prizes and giveaways throughout the event, ranging from cues, shafts, Kamui chalk & tips, Cue Cases, DVD's and much more. John Bertone states, "I phoned Daniel Busch of POV Pool just a few days ago and said, 'Hey, isn't it supposed to be the end of the world next month on December 21st?'. Within minutes, Daniel and I were on the same page, working out the details, pitching for sponsors and surveying players to see if this should happen. As it turns out, it seems that the 'end of the world' is a pretty easy sell. After all, if you're a pool player, not even the end of times is going to stop you from doing what you love to do the most, which is to play pool and go out in a blaze of glory!" Daniel states, "We are expecting to see great pool, by the most talented players from all over! Considering the prize fund and the entry fee, we are only expecting the best of the best to take part, but we are sure that there will be a few surprise entries from players far and wide. After all, it's supposed to be the LAST chance to get some table time with some of pool's greatest idols! As soon as we receive our first 16 entries, we will begin to announce them. I would like to thank the owner of Hard Times - Eddie Arreguin, Tournament Director - Marie Lim and House Pro - Dave Hemmah for providing their help and services to make this event take place." To register for this event, please call: Daniel Busch @ 310-923-6639 Live streaming will take place via Pay-Per-View by POV Pool for $9.95 and will run for the duration of the entire event starting at 12PM PST. To purchase PPV tickets for this event, please visit, www.ustream.tv/channel/povpool Hard Times Billiards, Bellflower Presents! "The End Of The World: 10-Ball Tournament Of The Mayans!" Higgins Denies Trump Again John Higgins beat Judd Trump in the final for the second time this season to win the Kay Suzanne Memorial Trophy in Gloucester. Wizard of Wishaw Higgins scored a 4-2 victory over Bristol's Trump in the Players Tour Championship event at the South West Snooker Academy to land the £10,000 top prize plus 2,000 ranking points. Just two months ago in China, Higgins came from 7-2 down to beat Trump 10-9 in the final of the Shanghai Masters. Trump went on to win the International Championship and climb to No 1 in the world, but still can't get revenge on four-time World Champion Higgins, who also beat Trump in the 2011 Crucible final. Trump started tonight's final strongly with a break of 102, his tenth century of the tournament. Higgins levelled with a 97 then Trump regained the lead. Higgins got the better of a scrappy fourth frame then stole the fifth on the colours to go ahead. And he sealed victory with a 62 in the next. "Judd missed a couple of balls in the final and I played well," said 37-year-old Higgins, who failed to win a trophy last season but now has two to his name this term. "It's always great to win a tournament, especially beating Judd in the final. "I struggled at times today and won three matches 4-3, the conditions were difficult so I just had to scrap through, but I played better in the final. We've got some big events like the UK Championship and the Masters coming up so it's good to build some confidence." But Higgins wrote off his chances of taking the top spot in the rankings from Trump this season. "I've got a lot of points coming off because of the titles I won two years ago, so it's not a realistic goal," he said. "If I can put myself in a good position it will be something to aim for next year." The event was named in memory of Kay Suzanne, who sadly died from breast cancer, and players wore pink shirts throughout to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Care. The Players Tour Championship is a series of ten events, four in the UK and six on the Betfair European Tour, with the top 25 on the final Order of Merit going through to the Grand Finals in March. They will be joined by seven players from the Asian PTC Order of Merit. The next event is Betfair European Tour event four, the Bulgarian Open, from November 16-18 in Sofia. It was presented to Mr.Walsh during the ABP Banquet held at Marietta Billiard Club in Georgia during the Johnny Archer Classic. "Without Dennis, we sure wouldn't be as far along as we are now as a group. He has spent countless hours helping the players and we are so fortunate to have him on our side. He has been the ABP's attorney and advisor, and there would be no way we could financially pay him back for what he has done for us all", said Johnny Archer during the ABP Banquet presentation. ABP Banquet night featuring the many faces of ABP fans and pros such as Corey Deuel, Stephanie Goens, Tommy Najar, and Wang Can Walsh graduated from Rockford College and later Loyola Chicago School of Law. Walsh is a partner in his own firm of Guest, Walsh, & Townsend, Ltd. since 1985 and is based in Chicago, Illinois. Walsh is an avid straight pool player and frequents popular poolroom Red Shoe Billiards in the Chicago area where he plays and also runs local tournaments. Walsh has also been a dedicated volunteer worker during straight pool tournaments as well as a sponsor. For the ABP, Walsh has been instrumental in negotiations with the coordination of the BCA (Billiard Congress of America) and US Open 9-Ball promoter Barry Behrman in the escrow of funds to help secure the players prize money in 2011. Walsh also helped legitimize the ABP with handling the legal logistics of the incorporation of the association. He also assists in board meetings, correspondences, and press news from the ABP. "It is an invaluable asset to have an experienced attorney helping you every step of the way. And a strong ally to have in meetings. He protects us and the players from others and sometimes even ourselves", says Charlie Williams, ABP Board of Directors member. The banquet was sponsored by Johnny Archer and his family and attended by the pros and guests such as Shannon Daulton & Marge Cooper It came to no surprise to anyone in the ABP that Dennis Walsh should receive this award except perhaps Walsh himself. Walsh was surprised and had no idea of the award. He said during his acceptance speech, "When I first got involved in professional pool, I was just a fan. I didn't realize professional players had so many hardships and financial issues such as not getting paid at events. I'm not an outspoken person, but I've just tried to do what I can to help the players in the ABP." To join the ABP as a pro, amateur, or to sponsor the ABP, e-mail abppropool@gmail.com . The ABP is a united assembly of international professional billiard players. The ABP was formed to be the voice of players worldwide in order to assist in tournament and industry challenges. ABP directives include standardizing equipment, rules, ensuring the timely payment of prize money, assisting promoters and sponsors, and the overall protection and security of professional players. The ABP works to improve the sport of billiards and jointly works with associations, promoters, sponsors and players alike in the joint goal of growing the sport and providing security to all involved. Superb Trump Gains Revenge On HigginsJudd Trump broke his sequence of losing in finals to John Higgins with a tremendous 4-0 success to win the Victoria Bulgarian Open in Sofia, part of the Betfair European Tour series. Trump lost to Higgins in the final of the Shanghai Masters in September and UKPTC4 last week, as well as the 2001 World Championship. But the 23-year-old from Bristol finally broke the Wizard's spell with a mesmerising display at the end of the first ever professional tournament in Bulgaria. In winning the recent International Championship in China, Trump climbed to number one in the world rankings, and on current form looks determined to become snooker's dominant force. Breaks of 47 and 42 gave him the opening frame tonight and he took the second after Higgins crucially missed the third-last red along the top cushion when just six points behind. Trump potted 11 reds with blacks in frame three, but when a maximum 147 beckoned, he missed the 12th red with the rest. But the left-hander barely minded as he wrapped up victory in the next frame with a run of 63. "I have lost to John a few times recently so I really wanted to beat him," said Trump after capturing the 12,000 Euros top prize as well as 2,000 ranking points. "It was a great atmosphere tonight, the crowd were brilliant and I really felt as if I could play well. "I have been in four finals now this season and I feel as if I can win every tournament I enter, as long as I don't have to play John. I have really enjoyed being in Bulgaria and I hope in the future they can produce some top players." Higgins added: "I had a chance to win the second frame but I missed a red, and that was really the only chance I got. Judd played too well for me this time. I'm looking ahead to the next few tournaments now and hoping to have a good run in the UK Championship. "The fans here have been amazing and it makes me want to come back." On Saturday, Tom Ford made a 147 in his third-round match against Matthew Stevens, earning a £2,500 bonus. The Players Tour Championship is a series of ten events, four in the UK and six on the Betfair European Tour, with the top 25 on the final Order of Merit going through to the Grand Finals in March. They will be joined by seven players from the Asian PTC Order of Merit. The next event is Betfair European Tour event five, the Scottish Open, from December 14-16 in Ravenscraig. WPBSA Statement - Joe Jogia On 25th July 2012 at a WPBSA Disciplinary Hearing, Joe Jogia was found to be in breach of the Members Betting Rules in relation to his match with Matthew Selt at the Sky Snooker Shootout in Blackpool in January 2012. The circumstances were that a large number of bets were placed in the Leicester area by two persons known to Joe Jogia on Selt to win the match. At the time of the bets being placed and after the suspicious betting was discovered, Joe Jogia contacted the two persons placing the bets 77 times. When the suspicious betting came to light he withdrew from the match citing an injury. Jogia could not explain his contact with these people or the suspicious betting. He received a two-year ban from snooker and was ordered to pay £2,000 towards the costs of the investigation and hearing. As is allowed under the Disciplinary Rules, he appealed against the finding and the penalty, supported by the Snooker Players Association. An appeal hearing was set for Wednesday 21st November 2012 before an independant Barrister appointed by Sport Resolutions UK. On Monday 19th November 2012, Joe Jogia withdrew his appeal and the original finding stands. Jason Ferguson, Chairman of the WPBSA, said: "It is disappointing that Joe chose to go down the route of an appeal that in the view of our legal advisors had no substance to it. This has forced the WPBSA to bear significant legal costs in preparation for the appeal. It is my view that the the action taken by the WPBSA in this case shows a zero tolerance to breaches of the Betting Rules".
