Tough elimination for PersadKaylash Persad (NED) met Paolo Prosdocimo (ITA) in the loser’s qualification round of the pupils division at the Dynamic Billard European Championships Youth. The match was tough and close as expected. No wonder the score was 5:5 after ten racks. In the decisive 11th rack, Persad was at the table with all balls nicely spread out for him. The 5-ball was long and hard but possible to be pocketed. Instead of taking the initiative, he tried a safety shot on the 5-ball but left a long and tough but open shot for Prosdocimo. The Italian kept his nerves together and pocketed that shot. Now he had the table open with no more obstacles for him in the way. That brought him the victory in that match and a seat among the final 16 juniors. There, Prosdocimo met his fate in Kestutis Zadeikis (LIT) who defeated him 6:4. In the girls division, the Khodjaeva sisters Kamila and Diana (BEL) were the talk of the day. Not only that they both won all their matches so far, they also won most of them with pretty clear results like 5:0 and 5:1. Both Khodjaevas have booked their seat in the quarter-finals. Kamila will face Dina Fatihova (RUS) while Diana will have to deal with Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS). Marharyta Fefilava (BLR) will play Nathalie Seichter (NED) and Kristina Tkach (RUS) goes into battle against Ana Gradisnik (SLO). It is striking that again the Russian girls seem to be the strongest contingency here at the Youth European Championships. In the juniors 10-ball division, newly crowned straight pool champion Joshua Filler (GER) was able to take revenge from Daniel Guttenberger (AUT). Guttenberger sent Filler 7:3 to the loser’s side after round one. Filler played all his way through the wrong side of the draw just to be drawn against Guttenberger again. This time, Filler won 7:1 and underlined once again his ambitions at these European Championships. In the round of the last 16 players which will be played tomorrow at 15:30 CET, a rematch of the straight pool final will take place. Filler will encounter Spasian Spasov (BUL) who defeated Frederico Sirimarco (ITA) in the previous round. At 17:00 and 18:45 CET, two rounds of the team competition were played. Teams play in juniors and pupils divisions. A team consists of three players. Whoever gets two points first wins the encounter. One match is played in 8-ball, one in 9-ball and one in straight pool with the same races as in the individuals of the respective division. In the pupils team event, the first round brought the following results: Finland v Norway 2:0 Croatia v Poland 0:2 Bulgaria v Germany 0:2 Russia v Italy 2:0 Switzerland v Austria 1:2 Denmark v Czech 1:2 Belgium v N. Cyprus 0:2 The juniors team event came up with these results: Slovenia v Belgium 2:1 N. Cyprus v Belarus 1:2 Netherlands v Slovakia 2:0 Germany v Sweden 2:1 Austria v Bulgaria 2:1 Luxembourg v Norway 0:2 Lithuania v Poland 0:2 The Dynamic Billard European Youth Championships 2014 will continue tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET with matches of the 8-ball individuals. at 17:00 CET, the quarterfinals of the 10-ball will be played with the finals scheduled for 20:00 CET. Filler, Dudanets and Khodjaeva win the 10-ball competitionThree more Gold Medals have been awarded at the Dynamic Billard European Championships Youth in Hotel Bernadin in Portoroz, Slovenia. In the Under 17’s, Maksim Dudanets (RUS) defeated Eklent Kaci (ALB) in the final with 6:3. Kaci had been a serious outsider. But nevertheless he had earned his place in this final against Dudanets. Victories over Jan van Lierop (NED) with 6:3, Marsel Safiullin (RUS) with 6:4 and young Kestutis Zadeikis (LIT) with 6:1 paved his way into the final match. His opponent however was the clear favorite. Dudanets ousted Patrick Hofmann (GER) 6:0, Konrad Kleinszmit (POL) 6:3 and Wiktor Zielinski (POL) with 6:5 on his way to the championship match. There, Dudanets gained a quick and comfortable 5:1 lead over Kaci. That gap was too big for the young Albanian to close. He managed to pull back two more racks from Dudanets to turn the score to 5:3. In the 9th rack, Kaci committed an unnecessary clothing foul and gave ball in hand to Dudanets. The Russian used his opportunity and played a combination shot 5 to 10 to win the rack and the match with 6:3. In the under 19’s, Joshua Filler (GER) again was playing in his own class. He eliminated brave Daniel Tangudd (SWE) clearly with 7:2 in the final match. The match was over in an hour and 10 minutes. Filler seems to be too dominant in his division so far. It is going to be interesting to see if he can be stopped throughout the event and by whom. In the girls division, Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL) snatched the title with a 5:2 victory over Ana Gradisnik (SLO). It is Khodjaeva’s final year in the girls division and a gold medal is definitely a ver nice finish. On a side note, it can be remarked that 12 semi-finalists today represented 11 different nations. That shows how tight the competition is in European youth billiards. Earlier today, the 8-ball competition was started. The defending Champions are Joshua Filler (GER) in the Under 17’s, Daniel Tangudd (SWE) in the Under 19’s and Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER) in the girls division. Filler left the Under 17’s and Ivanovskaia left the girls division, both for age reasons. So Tangudd was the only „real“ defending Champion in the 8-ball discipline. In the girls division, probably the two toughest matches were the encounters in the first winner’s round between Ana Gradisnik (SLO) and Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) and the match between Marion Winkler (AUT) and Anita Sochacka (POL). Gradisnik capitalized from a bad mistake that Seroshtan committed in the final rack. At 4.4, Seroshtan missed a very makable 8-ball. She brought Gradisnik back to the table who took the rack and the match with 5:4. Marion Winkler dominated Sochacka in her match and remained the upper hand with 5:3 to proceed to the winner’s qualification round. In the Under 17’s division, things went according „the book“. No upsets happened. Maksim Dudanets (RUS) will face Nicolas Georgopoulos (GER) in the winner’s qualification round. A small surprise occurred when Sanjin Pehlivanovic (BIH) won both his opining matches to deal with Michal Muklewicz (POL) in the next round. Jan van Lierop (NED) and Daniel Maciol (POL) will also duel in the winner’s qualification round and only one of them can go through direct while the other one will be sent to the loser’s side of the draw. There is also an all-German clash in that round: Patrick Hofmann will play against his teammate Johannes Schmitt who both have a good chance for merits this year. Also in the Under 19’s division, the „usual suspects“ have not shown any weaknesses yet. Daniel Tangudd (SWE) booked his seat in the Single elimination round of the last 32 player just as Oliver Szolnoki and Joshua Filler did, among others. Anton Zlatev (BUL) defeated Kristof Szentimrei (HUN) and Pawel Kaczmarek (POL) quite clearly and joined the other favorite players in the single elimination stage. Spasian Spasov (BUL) who had a great week so far lost to unheralded Sebastian Hladky (SLK) in his first round match with 3:7. He will get another chance to enter the single elimination round if he defeats Mattia Scodinu (SLK) tomorrow. The Dynamic Billard European Youth Championships 2014 will continue tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET with matches of the 8-ball individuals. All matches can be viewed LIVE at www.kozoom.com. 22 tables in HiRes quality are providing you with all the action of the event. You do not miss out one single match! Join today! 8-Ball down to quarterfinals and excitement in the team competitionAt the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Youth, the 8-ball individuals are down to the quarter-finals while the team competition came up with more excitement later on today. In the Under 17’s, team Germany met team Poland. Since both nations are known to have a strong youth contingency, the match was eagerly awaited. The team leader made their calls and the line-up was as follows: Wiktor Zielinski v Johannes Schmitt in 8-ball Michal Muklewicz v Nicolas Georgopoulos in 9-ball Daniel Maciol v Patrick Hofmann in straight pool. Zielinski defeated Schmitt in 8-ball with 6:4. Surprisingly, Hofman was able to defeat European Champion Maciol in straight pool with 75:38. The decision had to come in the match between Muklewicz and Georgopoulos. And as if the drama was not high enough, that match went hill-hill with Muklewicz having the break shot in rack nr. 13. He fired the break shot and 3 balls went down with all remaining balls spread out nice and easy. He ran all balls until he got to the 7-ball. With only the 7-ball and the 9-ball left on the table, Muklewicz came a bit too low on the 7-ball. But he managed to cut it in and get position for the 9-ball. He also pocketed the 9-ball and won the match with 7:6, bringing team Poland the victory over team Germany. Unlucky for Georgopoulos he was not even at the table in the final rack. Other surprising results include team North Cyprus defeating team Czech Republic with 2:1 in the Under 17’s. Team Germany with Raphael Wahl, Florian Zuewert and double European Champion Joshua Filler was too strong for team Austria in the Under 19’s. They won the match clearly with 2:0, leaving no chance for the strong Austrian team. Since this was the winner’s qualification round, the losing teams will get another chance on the loser’s side of the draw while the winning teams advance to the single elimination stage. In the 8-ball individuals earlier today, the biggest surprise happened in an all-German clash. Joshua Filler lost against his teammate Jannik Schmitt with 5:7 in the round of the final 32 players and is out of the 8-ball competition. Other notable results include Vladislav Les (BLR) winning over Spasian Spasov (BUL) with 7:5. Clemens Schober (AUT), who celebrated his 18th birthday today, provided himself with the best gift by defeating Dawid Tonojan (POL) 7:6 for a spot in the last 16 players. The Dynamic Billard European Youth Championships 2014 will continue tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET with matches of the 9-ball individuals. The 8-ball finals will be played at 20:00 CET. All matches can be viewed LIVE at www.kozoom.com. 22 tables in HiRes quality are providing you with all the action of the event. You do not miss out one single match! Join today! Mika Immonen and Jose Parica Earn Recognition in Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame Broomfield, Colo., August 5, 2014 - The Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame proudly celebrates and welcomes two of pool's most dominate players in 2014. The United States Billiard Media Association today announced that two-time world pool champion Mika Immonen and Jose Parica, the leader of pool's "Philippine Invasion" in the 1980s, have earned induction into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in the Greatest Players category. Immonen, 42, and Parica, 65, will become the 63rd and 64th members of the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame. The pair will be inducted during ceremonies on Oct. 17, at the Chesapeake Convention Center in Chesapeake, Va. Immonen, born in London, but raised in Finland, was the European 9-Ball Tour's No. 1 player at 20. Four years after capturing his first major international title - the 1996 Peace Cup in Taiwan -Immonen settled in New York City. A year later, he won the World Pool Championship in Cardiff, Wales, topping a star-studded 128-player international field and grabbing what was then pool's richest top prize - $65,000. Immonen was a dominant player throughout the 2000s, winning 10 pro titles in the U.S., including back-to-back U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships crowns (2008, 2009). He added his second world title when he won the 2009 World 10-Ball Championship. Billiards Digest named Immonen "Player of the Decade" in 2010. Immonen has added a handful of major titles since 2010, including the World Cup of Pool doubles crown in 2012. He has also played as a member of Team Europe in the Mosconi Cup 14 times, and was named MVP in 2008. "This is really amazing," Immonen said, when the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame call interrupted a practice session at Amsterdam Billiard Club in Manhattan. "I'm a little beside myself right now, with goose bumps. After last year (in which Immonen lost to Jeanette Lee in a special Hall of Fame run-off]), I knew I had a chance. But you never really believe it until it's real." "When I was younger, I had dreams and goals," he added. "It's a timeline, and the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame was on that list. Obviously, that goal takes time. I wasn't in a big rush to be recognized as an old geezer, but it's nice to be in the Hall of Fame at 41." Parica becomes the second player elected to the Greatest Player wing of the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame through recommendation of the Veterans Committee. (The Veterans Committee considers players who failed to be elected through general voting prior to turning 60. Players recommended by the Veterans Committee are put on the final ballot. Election is confirmed with a 50 percent approval from the Voting Members of the Hall of Fame.) Following a distinguished career in the Philippines, where he gained a reputation as the pool-crazy island's money-game king, Parica arrived in the U.S. He won his first pro tour title in 1986, at the Clyde Childress Open. After a sabbatical from the game (1992-1996), Parica returned to the Camel Pro Billiard Series with a vengeance, winning a pair of tour titles. His consistent play throughout the year also earned him the $50,000 Player of the Year (POY) bonus award to the tour's top points earner. The points title came down to the semifinals of the year's final event, when Parica battled Buddy Hall in a match that determined which player would claim the POY award. Parica topped Hall, 9-7. Parica continued to rank among the game's top players well into the 2000s, winning Derby City Classic titles in 2001, 2002 and 2003, including Master of the Table in 2002. "It has been a long time to wait," said Parica, when told of his election. "For many years, I didn't think the people from the BCA knew who I was. I was always asked about my record. I won many major tournaments in the U.S. They commented about my gambling, but what pool player doesn't gamble? But it is a great honor," he added. "I'm very happy." Voting for the 2014 BCA Hall of Fame was conducted by the USBMA Hall of Fame Board, which consists of USBMA members, elected At-Large members and living members of the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame. Induction in the Greatest Players category is awarded to the player named on the most ballots. A second player is elected if both players are named on more than 70 percent of the ballots. To be eligible for consideration in the Greatest Players category, a player a) must be 40 years old by Jan. 1 of the year of their induction; b) must have a professional playing career of at least 10 years; and c) must have recorded significant achievements in U.S.-based events. Immonen, in his second year of eligibility, was named on 75 precent of the ballots. Germany's Oliver Ortmann was named on 33 percent of the ballots, and Gerda Hofstatter was named on 27 percent. Belinda Calhoun, Kim Davenport, Mary Kenniston, Jeremy Jones, Rodney Morris and Vivian Villarreal each received votes on less than 25 percent of the ballots. About United States Billiard Media Association Founded in 2007, the United States Billiard Media Association (USBMA) is a non-profit association dedicated to elevating the visibility and status of billiards in the media at large. The USBMA consists of professional print, radio, TV, public relations and Internet media persons who cover cue sports. Scotland's Jayson Shaw came out the gate firing with a 100 ball clearance in his first match against North Carolina's Tom Gleich. Shaw is looking to improve on his 5th place debut last year. "It was beautiful to watch", commented Gleich on the perfect run. Throwback pro Earl Herring gave new BCA Hall of Famer Mika Immonen a fit with a 100-28 crushing of the former finalist. Herring also is remembered to have given Hohmann his only loss last year en route to his eventual victory. Immonen however did come right back and schooled Israel's Zion Zvi with a 100 ball run of his own on the TV match. Another surprise came at the hands of pro newbie Justin Bergman who easily defeated former World 14.1 champ John Schmidt 100- 15. "I'm really enjoying myself at the World Tournament. It's my first time in New York City", said Bergman, one of the Mosconi USA hopefuls. Hohmann won his match with a 98 ball run over Charles Eames while Mike Dechaine blanked Dennis Hatch 100-0 with a 97 ball run on the TV table. Gold for Tkach, Maciol and WahlThe 8-ball competition at the 2014 Dynamic Billard European Championships has found its Champions. Kristina Tkach (RUS), Daniel Maciol (POL) and Raphael Wahl (GER) wear the crown of 8-ball in the respective disciplines. In the girls division, Kristina Tkach was a bit the underdog in the final with Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL). The Belgian was leading 3:1 and 4:3 in a race to 5. She had already taken the 10-ball title and she bristled with confidence. But Tkach never gave up and pulled back rack after rack from Khodhaeva. The match went hill-hill and Tkach managed to win the final rack and the title. This is her first European Championship title after three Bronze Medals. In the Under 17’s division, Daniel Maciol had already won the straight pool title earlier this week. He met his teammate Michal Muklewicz in the final match. This match also went hill-hill since both contestants played on an even level. It was a bit of luck that Maciol took the final rack and the title in 8-ball. In the Under 17’s, Poland won three out of four medals. Raphael Wahl dealt with Pijus Labutis (LIT) in the final of the Under 19’s. The match went back and forth. Wahl took a 2:1 lead. Then Labutis went ahead 4:2. Wahl tied the match at 4:4 when Labutis went ahead again with 5:4. Then Wahl shifted into overdrive and took the next three consecutive racks to win the match with 7:5. The medal table displays Germany still in the lead with 3 Gold and 1 Bronze Medals. Poland is second with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals. Third place is Russia with 2 Gold and 3 Bronze Medals. Earlier today, the 9-ball individuals were started in all three divisions. In the girls division, Kristina Tkach (RUS) is the only medallist left over from last year. She won the Bronze Medal in Sarajevo in 2013. All other medal winners left the girls division for age reasons. So Tkach can be considered as the favorite in the girls. She had to prove that straight away in her first match when she had to play Ana Gradisnik (SLO). The Slovenian is regarded as one of the strongest players in the field herself. She is regularly playing on the women’s Euro-Tour and has already earned some merits in the women’s division as well. However, Gradisnik just could not find a way past Tkach who rode flawlessly and came into the next winner’s round with 6:3 while Gradisnik was sent to the loser’s side. In the next round, Tkach will face Marion Winkler (AUT) in the next round. Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) and Kamila and Diana Khodjaeva (both BEL) are other names who need to be considered for the final stage of the 9-ball competition. Seroshtan will play Kamila Khodjaeva in the winner’s qualification round while Diana Khodjaeva will have to deal with Silje Munk from Denmark. Nathalie Seichter (NED) will battle it out with Dina Fatihova (RUS) in the winner’s qualification round. In the Under 19’s, Joshua Filler (GER) is again regarded as one of the favorites. He defeated Casper Matikainen (FIN) 8:2 and Oliver Szolnoki (HUN) 8:2 so far and is awaiting more prey in the single elimination stage. Fabio Rizzi (nothing) had an exciting day today. First he defeated Florian Zuewert (GER) 8:7 and then he fell to the sharp blade of Tim de Ruyter (NED) with the same result. He will play Matikainen tomorrow for a spot among the top 32 players in 9-ball. Andreas Madsen (DEN) had a walk-over in the first round. Then he met Daniel Tangudd (SWE) in the first winner’s round and won 8:6 over the Swede. This also puts him in the single elimination stage of the event. In the division of the Under 17’s, defending Champion Jan van Lierop (NED) had a bad start. He was seeded #1 and lost his opening match to Michael Schneider (SUI) with 3:7. That was very unexpected and gave Schneider wind beneath his wings. One of the bigger surprises of this EC, Eklent Kaci (ALB) won his first two matches over Andre Krohn (GER) 7:4 and Adrijan Todic (SUI) with 7:1. Kaci will have to deal with Daniel Resch (AUT) in the winner’s qualification round. Daniel Maciol (POL) and Cyriel Ledoux (NED) are also players in the Under 17’s division who must be watched closely. The Dynamic Billard European Youth Championships 2014 will continue tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET with matches of the 9-ball individuals. All matches can be viewed LIVE at www.kozoom.com. 22 tables in HiRes quality are providing you with all the action of the event. You do not miss out one single match! Join today! Big Names OUT! Hatch, Cohen, Williams & Jeanette Lee Fall at ANDY CLOTH World 14.1 New York City, NY- Day 3 has concluded and some heavy hitters will not be making it to the next stage of the Andy Cloth 74th World Tournament of 14.1 . Dennis Hatch was seeded #1 in his group wth his finish in the quarterfinals last year and has never failed to make the top 16 of the World 14.1 till this event. Stephan Cohen of France besides his top 5 finish last year, is also a former World Champion of the event. This indicates the strength of this year's field! The ANDY CLOTH 74th World Tournament is taking place on August 4th-9th, 2014. Dragon Promotions and Dr. Michael Fedak are pleased to bring the 74th production of the oldest billiard event in the world . Also sponsored by Andy Cloth, Kamui Brands, OB Cues, Amsterdam Billiard Club, Realrealcool.com, Pool & Billiard Magazine , Aramith Balls, and George Beckman Kinetic Sculptures. Official patron 14.1 aficionados are Stu Mattana, Tom Gleich, Harold Siegel, Dr. Greg Diehl Plastic Surgery, and Official World 14.1 photographer Charles Eames. A star studded field has made it back once again to the 14.1 extravaganza taking place at Steinway Billiards Cafe, who is once more hosting the world's greatest straight pool championship. Though Hatch was seeded #1 in his group, he was defeated by Archer and the 0-100 shutout by Mike Dechaine would prove costly later when senior pro player Dave Daya eliminated him 100- 63, leaving Hatch with a 4 loss and 1 win record. France's former World 14.1 Champion Stephan Cohen was also seeded #1, but his group was considered one of the toughest. He took a win over Strickland but lost to Charlie Williams 100-59 which proved to be his undoing. Former World 14.1 bronze medalist Williams started off badly in the event with two early losses and then was knocked out of the event by Tony Robles. Finally, local amateur player who won a qualifier, Eddie Kwok faced Jeanette Lee in the do or die spot to advance to the next stage. He managed to hold his nerves and win 100-73 over the Black Widow. Kaci through to quarter-finals in 9-ballEklent Kaci (ALB) booked his seat in the quarter-final round of the 9-ball competition of the U17 players. In the round of the last 16 players, Kaci defeated Fedor Gorst (RUS) with 7:4. He will now face Johannes Schmitt (GER) in the quarter-final match. Kaci is probably one of the bigger surprises at this Dynamic Billard European Championships for Youth. He plays rock solid and convinces with his performance. He already won the Bronze Medal in 8-ball and the Silver Medal in 10-ball earlier this week. Coming here to Portoroz completely unheralded, it will be interesting to follow where the road of this young player will lead him to. The defending Champion Jan van Lierop (NED) could not live up to his performance from last year and lost two matches in order to be eliminated from the event. HIs teammates Kaylash Persad and Cyriel Ledoux (both NED) will play each other in the round of the last 8 players. In the U19, Joshua Filler and Raphael Wahl (both GER) must be considered serious contenders for the title. They have both won titles earlier this week and it is going to be interesting to see if their winning streak will continue. They both face tough opponents in the quarter-finals. Wahl faces Daniel Guttenberger (AUT) while Filler will have to play against Anton Zlatev (BUL). In the girls division, the „usual suspects“ have made their way to the quarterfinals. Kristina Tkach (RUS) plays against Ana Gradisnik (SLO), Dina Fatihova (RUS) will meet Marharyta Fefilova (BLR), Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL) crosses swords with Marion Winkler (AUT) and last but not least Diana Khodjaeva (BEL) battles it out with Nathalie Seichter (NED). It is a bit surprising that Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) is not in this round. She lost clearly with 1:6 to Gradisnik in the loser’s qualification round. Later today, two more rounds of team competition were played. In the U19, team Finland met team Austria. Casper Matikainen won the 8-ball with 7:4 over Clemens Schober. Daniel Guttenberger tied the match at 1:1 in winning the straight pool with 100:23 over Santtu Pyykonen. The decision had to come from the 9-ball match. There, Juuso Nuutiinen and Michael Winkler went to 7:7. Nuutiinen mixed the 6-ball and that sealed the fate for team Finland. Winkler won the rack and the match and made the day for team Austria who won 2:1 over team Finland. The Dynamic Billard European Youth Championships 2014 will continue tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET with the quarterfinals of the 9-ball individuals. The 9-ball finals will be played at 12:00 CET. The team finals will be played at 16:00 CET. All matches can be viewed LIVE at www.kozoom.com. 22 tables in HiRes quality are providing you with all the action of the event. O’Sullivan – Welsh Open Is SpecialSnooker ace Ronnie O’Sullivan admits the BetVictor Welsh Open is one of his favourite tournaments on the calendar, and hopes the event will be a success at its new home in Cardiff. The world ranking event will run from February 16-22 in 2015 and will take place in the Welsh capital for the first time in over a decade, having moved from Newport to the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff. Tickets are ON SALE NOW and start at just £8, incredible value for the chance to see the world’s best players in action. Book immediately as tickets for many sessions will sell out fast, plus there’s a HALF PRICE OFFER for the first four days of the event (Monday February 16 to Thursday February 19) and the offer ends soon so don’t miss out! Call 02920 22 44 88 or visit www.worldsnooker.com/tickets The tournament will feature 128 players, all starting in the same round, and with 11 tables in the arena, fans will have the chance to watch several matches in one day. O’Sullivan has won the Welsh Open three times, most recently in March this year when he thrashed Ding Junhui 9-3 in the final, and capped a supreme display with a stunning 147 in the last frame, the 12th maximum break of his career. He conceded just ten frames in seven matches on his way to winning the £60,000 top prize. “The Welsh Open has been good to me over the years, I always enjoy it and I’ve played some of my best snooker there,” said the five-time World Champion. “That 147 against Ding is up among the high points of my career. I’ve watched it back on YouTube a few times since, particularly the last red which is one of the best shots I’ve ever played. “I always liked the venue in Newport. But I understand the event needs to grow, and we need space for more tables and more players, and hopefully that will help create a great atmosphere. I remember playing in Cardiff when the event was there before, it’s a good place.” O’Sullivan also won the Masters, the Champion of Champions and the Paul Hunter Classic last season, though he finished it on a low note, losing 18-14 to Mark Selby in the World Championship final. He is yet to confirm his schedule for 2014/15 but added: “I want to play in as many events as I can. I just have to look at the calendar and structure my season properly.” Other winners of the BBC-Wales televised Welsh Open in recent years include Stephen Maguire, Ding, John Higgins, Ali Carter, Mark Selby and Neil Robertson.

Hawes and Curtis Supply European Tour Shirts World Snooker's European Tour events have a new dress code this season, with shirts to be supplied by renowned clothing firm Hawes and Curtis. The six events across continental Europe, starting with the Riga Open in Latvia which started today, will see players wearing black tailored shirts together with black or dark tailored trousers. The shirts are supplied by Hawes and Curtis, a London-based firm established in 1913 with the intention of creating high quality, exclusive clothing. Hawes & Curtis have been acclaimed by royalty and aristocracy alike; most famously by the Duke of Windsor and Earl Mountbatten. Jason Ferguson of World Snooker said: "This is a unique new dress code for the European Tour events and we excited about the way it will look on television and for the live audiences. We're delighted that such a celebrated brand as Hawes & Curtis are getting involved in snooker. We both have over 100 years of history and we look forward to working together in the future." Edward Smith, brand manager of Hawes and Curtis, said: "Snooker has always been the best-dressed sport of all so Hawes and Curtis jumped at the chance to get involved with the WPBSA and World Snooker Ltd to kit out the best players in the world with our shirts for the European Tour. "As a sport, snooker is growing by the day and reaching out to new territories across the globe. Our shirts have been best-sellers for more than 100 years so we know they'll stand up to the intense pressure of competition."

Hohmann OUT! Mr.400 Out! Shockers at the 74thNew York City, NY- There will be a new World 14.1 Champion this week. 3x winner of this event and reigning champion and #1 seed Thorsten Hohmann was eliminated tonight. Joining him is USA favorite John "Mr.400" Schmidt who was eliminated by Finland's Mika Immonen. The second stage of the Andy Cloth 74th World Tournament of 14.1 has completed leaving behind 16 players. The Hohmann/Strickland match was full of drama with Strickland striking first blood with a hundred ball lead. Hohmann fough back and nearly leveled the match. Both players then took turns on errors. Eventually they tied at 139 apiece , both needing 11 balls to win and guarantee a berth into the sweet 16. Hohmann made his break ball , the cueball smacked the rack, but glanced into the pocket and scratched. Earl saw a deadball in the pile and fired in a combo and ran out for the huge win. This was the first time both had ever played each other in 14.1. Hohmann's luck did not improve when Filipino master Warren Kiamco stayed close with Thorsten during the match. Hohmann could not get anything going and kept giving back the table to Kiamco. Warren gratefully accepted the gifts and eventually won 150-107. This was the very first time HOhmann did not make it to the final 16 bracket. American straight pool champion John Schmidt also fared badly. Schmidt had won the World 14.1 in 2012 and then followed up with a strong 3rd place last year. But this year he could not find his stride in any of the days and he fell to Max Eberle 150-95. AT one point, Eberle took an intentional 3 foul on 4 occasions! That equaled over 60 points in penalties that he still managed to get over and win. Schmidt then went on to face Mika Immonen who had lost to Mike Dechaine. Immonen was red hot and Schmidt could not do much in his 150-22 loss. Watch online Pay Per View at www.worldstraightpool.com

Van Boening Takes #1 Seed: Strickland vs Immonen. Deuel vs Appleton. 74th World 14.1 Heating UpNew York City, NY- Shane Van Boening has stayed undefeated through both stages of the World 14.1 and with the elimination of Thorsten Hohmann, he has taken the #1 seed. The third and final stage of the Andy Cloth 74th World Tournament of 14.1 has begun with the final sweet 16 players. A star studded field has made it back once again to the 14.1 extravaganza taking place at Steinway Billiards Cafe, who is once more hosting the world's greatest straight pool championship. Van Boening crushed Scotland's Fulcher 150- 46 to earn his spot into the sweet 16 final races to 200. Shane made it to this stage last year but lost to John Schmidt and tied for 9th. He is looking better this year in his 14.1 skills and could be making a run to the finals if he can get by Archer today. "Shane is definitely the most consistent player I've seen this week. He's been blowing out all his opponents, so it appears he has been working on his straight pool skills. I would definitely pick him as the top dark horse favorite to win", said Charlie Williams, Executive Producer of the World Tournament. Even though they will not be the main feature TV match, the Strickland vs Immonen match will be entertaining. At the speed they both play, it likely won't be a long match even with 200 points to play. Appleton and Robles remain to be the other undefeated players left.
