dave , admin , who ever this may concern

is there a way this site could have a chat room/box or instant messaging ( like on facebook ) ?????

having this would be good for when the over seas events anr on so that the members of the site can all discuss in conversations over the chat facillitys rather than in the thread !

the threads are good for expressing your opinion but where like with the us open and the mosconi when the games are live and a number of members will be tuning in, having a discusion in the thread/forums is hard work.

uk8ball had a chat box back in the day ( before it got over run by people who new sweet nothing about the game ) and it was class

think it would be a good idea i do

Adding a chat box is quite simple but whether or not Dave wants to do that I don't know - it's a bit of a double edged sword to be honest and I wouldn't blame him if he didn't add one!

P.S - the chat room is still on uk8 Craig.

:)

I have to admit that having your inane drivel moved to a private area can't be such a bad thing :)

The chat box can be useful for reasons such as those that you've outlined Craig. However, with it comes a license for users to abuse that facility because the chat boxes aren't usually moderated - the one on uk8 wasn't , swear filter apart - and that can lead to arguments and perspectives being taken way out of context.

Personally, I would prefer a 'Facebook style' IM option over a chatbox and I'm sure it would be reasonably easy to implement on Pro9 but that then doesn't fit into the remit that you asked for originally Craig - i.e to be able to have a multi person conversation , MSN Styleeeee .

If it ain't broke and all that is my motto!

Having a chatbox like the one on FB is more of a personal 1-2-1 thing. I'm not sure that would be relevant here, why not use MSN or FB. I think it would be detremental to the good posts we see (1 or 2 people excepted). Something like a live discussion board would only be the same as the normal posts but more chaotic. Thing about the posts is they are (mostly) relevant, on topic and you generally accept that you may be a little behind the latest post.

I'm all for improving things if they add value (errgh, corporate babble)

I don't think we need a private chat room!
If you want a private chat, go on facebook, or send 'em a text, JMO!

1. don't think it's easy to implement onto the system that this site uses.

2. it may have an effect on forum activity and lower the number of posts.

3. bandwidth costs would go through the roof i think.
