Ok so as some of you may know my phone's screen cracked whilst I was playing over the weekend in High Wycombe and I need to get a new one. I have come down to two; the iPhone and the Nokia 5800. Does anyone have either or have any opinions on which is best? Discuss! ----------------- Chris @ Pro9

Get the iPhone it's the nutz, free Internet if u get it on contract really easy to use. Only downside for me is no Bluetooth and no video camera but apart from that it's the best phone in the Market at the moment [ This message was edited by: RACKRUNNER21 on 2009-05-20 19:04 ]

i thought i better say something chris as i started your dilemma!!!
iphone is awesome apart from the the couple of things that lee pointed out. also the cheapest tariff on o2 is about 35 quid and you have to pay for the phone.
as you know myself and scott both have the 5800 and we both think it's a good phone.
all depends what you want in a phone. if you want easy email access and and a business type phone then blackberry is the way to go.
if you want just a relatively normal phone but with a few gadgets on then i'd go with the 5800.
best thing to do is go into the phone shops and have a try on a few different ones.
you're on o2 so go into one of their shops and see what you like. the htc touch diamond 2 should be out on o2 now and looks like a great phone.

I'll just stick to my old Samsung D600....my phone doesnt work in Africa, so if I got an I phone it would just be an expensive alarm clock!
It is nice though....

I gave up nokia phones for windows mobile phones as I enjoyed being able to do near enough all of the things a PC/laptop could, hence I currently have the T-mobile Vario IV. My only grumble about Nokia is that once you get used to it, your interest factor in it disappears but the sppd for the iphone prevent this. After using the Iphone i was really impressed with the apps and am tempted to swap to the new Iphone and enjoy the ease of use without worrying about how much memory is being used by an application in the background. Iphone just seems more fun, my Vario IV is almost too serious and rightly so being a business device. I would wait for the new release of the iphone (3.0 software) as per here: http://news.idg.no/cw/art.cfm?id=5EBBBAB4-1A64-67EA-E40708EE2D06CE1Dand here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7949557.stm----------------- Rack'em & Bash'em

Moving more to the Nokia I think just because of the Sat Nav capabilities, although I doubt it wont be that long until the iPhone introduces turn by turn directions.
Thanks for the input all!

I've been shown the iPhone by a couple of friends and it looks great, however, something screwed up every time so I've never seen a 'perfect' demo of one...
GPS put us in the middle of the M8 when we were in town and nowhere near the M8!
Some of the apps / games crashed which froze the phone (had to replace battery).
Low signal almost anywhere in Glasgow (though this would be O2's fault).
Generally my mates thought it was rubbish!

Generally my mates thought it was rubbish! I've never had mine crash or freeze...the gps works fine for me and signal is fine in Bristol. You can check and send emails within seconds and free internet anywhere in the u.k whether you are in wifi zone or not

I personally prefer the iPhone. It is the only touch screen phone with mutitouch that recognizes more than one input at a time. Apple has a patent on this and the copies don't. It uses a capacitive touch screen that is better to use than the cheap copies. Not to mention software that is years ahead of anyone else thats before they release the updated 3.0 version.
I would wait until Apple has its world wide developers conference in July before buying. Its expected they will announce a new updated model at that event. If all your waiting for is the new software then there is no need to wait as this will be a free update on any iPhone and a small charge on the iPod touch. This software update will have the ability to have turn by turn directions amongst many other improvements including MMS and copy cute and paste.
Not sure about the bluetooth comment as my iPhone does have it. I use it in the car for hands free.
As far as video this will probably be in the new software as well. Although a better camera will probably be in the new hardware that should be announced soon.
Its just up to you if you want the genuine article with the massive app store or knock offs from Nokia ot HTC.

New iPhone out later this year, worth the wait (I work for O2, trust me!) - Alan has hit the nail on the head, all depends what you want to use your phone for.
iPhone is without doubt the single biggest selling device in the uk right now. Ok, so it doesn't have MSS, Bluetooth or Sat Nav, but it has pretty much evrything else and does everything else 10 times better than any other device on the market. Simple things like SMS, Internet access, email config (pop or exchange), sync are incredably easy to use. App store is different class too.
Nokia haven't got the smartphone quite right yet. They're getting closer, but still have some way to go.
I've had mine since Sept 2007 (i.e. when they 1st came out) and have never had a problem of any sort, bar the odd software crash - nothing a reboot doesn't sort out.
