I could do with some advice on an internet provider issue and i figured there was nowhere better to turn than the helpful people on pro9.
At home i currently have no internet (did have aol but cancelled it when laptop charger broke).
Also i have no phone line connected although there is a bt line physically in place.
Also i have no form of tv other than the 5 terrestrial channels.
I am buying a new pc this weekend and will want to connect back to broadband and am considering going with sky tv as i believe i can get a phone line, basic sky tv package, and broadband all for £26 a month, is this the best way forward??
All advice appreciated.

i've been with sky broadband for the last 6 months, pay an extra tenner a month for extra fast connection, its never let me down once and is lightening fast.

HI Jamie,
Who is your mobile subscriber? I'm with Orange and I get fast boradband with them for £5 a month (have to have a mobile contract of £30 per month). Through the broadband box you can also make free landline and international calls.

Internet providers seem to vary from place to place, BT, Sky etc. are great in some areas and rubbish in others, depending where you are. Have a party and find out what your new neighbours say about their providers.

I'm with T-mobile, and i have a few months on my contract to run yet before i can change network.
Looked further into the sky tv deal and you have to pay an extra £11 a month for bt line rental so it would cost us £37 a month.

I work for an ISP and have worked for Orange. Whatever you do I can't remcomend them. And they are voted consistantly the worst. If you're not going for cable, which is the best for speed etc, then go to www.samknows.com and find out which companies in your area have LLU (local loop unbundled) ... no need to worry about terminology, just that these companies will get you 8MB BB. If you're not in SKy's LLU area the best you will get is 2MB and then you have to be near the exchange and have a good condition phone line. Hope this helps. Thanks JC i've just tried that, i tried by postcode and it seems i am in a Skybroadband LLU area. Would you recommend that as a course of action then?

Just a word of warning, you will have to get the line re-activated by bt who will tie you in for a minimum of 3 months before you can change your provider. I work for the Carphone Warehouse and would be able to check your speed and deal once the line is active.

If you want reliable straight forward no nonsense package where the support is good too and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to phone their call centre I can thoroughly recommend....... Good Old BT
They have been outstanding for me all the way through over serveral years at 2 different addresses too. £17.99 per month suits me. I can't be bothered with all these fancy marketing deals linking your mobile or Sky Tv etc as when you add them all up, look at the tie ins, cost of tech support if there's a problem etc they invariably prove to be not worth the extra effort.
Go with BT!

Currently with Bulldog, were great when I was in CV1 postcode, but slower connection now. Personally considering switch to Virgin. Phone, TV and 2Mb for around £25 a month for the next 12 months, with 20Mb available.
At the end of the day, they are all very similar. Take your pick!

i would personally go with virgin media, if you get an internet package with them they offer you a tv box with loads of channels on for a quid a month basicly a modded up free view box but it is class!

All advice appreciated. When you look in to it check that they don't limit you on down loads and also check the small print how long you are tied to them before you can change if you find a better deal later on.

Sky are ok. And if you're getting a deal with them then go for it. If you want a good premium service on a BT line: AOL good, and BT not too bad either. Someone out there will have had bad service tho! In the end you'll get what you pay for!

Btw you'll be surprised that many ISP's will say they limit you to say 2mb a month etc. But they don't cos they don't actually know how much you use! They'll remain nameless (there's more than one), but they are in the process of fixing this. Enjoy for now tho!

They say if you exceed your usage allowance you will be fine and able to continue using the service. They say they will only contact you if you exceed it regularly. I pay 17.99 which has a usage limit of 2GB, and am always downloading music.
