plenty more things can go wrong in snooker ie kicks, opening up a pack of balls....not that i am saying darts is easy, i have never had a 180 in my life!

I've had this discussion with my dad (a world championship darts player in the 70's) a number of times.

Needless to say the debate is never resolved and usually ends with us watching the darts/snooker in silence for the remainder of the broadcast. Families ay?

to my surprise, i heard that if u was 2 bet on 9darter happening at wc, compared to a 147 at wc, the odds are longer for the darts! Not sure how accurate is but i suppose if ur 1mm out at darts you cant change the outcome, in snooker obvoiusly u cant miss but u can run out of position and recover, and u tend to heve a selection of reds if flicks and cannons etc dont work out.

yes my dad was a very very good darts player in his time. this is why i want to settle the argument once and for all.

i think a snooker table is more forgiving than a dart board though.

exactly smalldave... about darts, u have to hit it perfect and the outcome cannot change. where as in snooker you can fluke and have more choice.

For me the 9 darter is the less likey so you could argue that means it's harder but if you take 2 equally gifted youngsters and tell one of them to start practising darts everyday and the other to start practising snooker everyday I reckon the snooker player will take longer to master the sport sufficiently to put him in with a realistic chance of making a 147.

That's my view. This thread is really made for tHe_machine!

plenty of youngsters hit a 147... not many youngsters hit a 9 dart finish.

That's because more youngsters play snooker seriously than darts.

Another important point, is that it's far easier to score 147 at darts than it is at snooker. But very difficult to get 180 at snooker - Am I right or am I right?

That was actually quite funny from you for a change...

:-P

My opinion is that darts is becoming a more professional sport lately with the help of Matchroom etc and attracts more and more players to make a go of it full time.
The more full time players there are, the better they become and the more chance of hitting a 9 darter.

Look at the first one back in 1984 from John Lowe.
There wasnt another one til 1990(Paul Lim).
It wasn't until after the millenium that the 9 darters were rolling in.

This year alone there has been at least 5 televised 9 darters, with 2 in the same tournament! so that suggests to me that the standard is so high these days.

You could argue that the boards are better than in the 80's with bounce outs less frequent, but it is only 9 perfect darts.

So, to boil it down, I reckon a 9 darter is easier to achieve than a 147 (not that I could do either lol!)

:-D
