Most of them probably were independents originally before rileys steamrollered them into assimitation.
Well done to rileys for anything they created from an empty warehouse, but i believe most of their acquisitions were existing clubs with existing clientelle and existing staff.
I seriously hope none of these have been affected (clubs and staff!). I for one preferred them as independents, but carrots dangled have a habit of being eaten!

Just saw the list of closures...
Comment on the Scottish ones (my opinion anyway!):
Glasgow (victoria rd. No surprise - only had 6 or 8 snooker tables - no decent pool tables, always quiet, not considered a good venue by any local cuesport players - no big loss! More a pub than a pool club, but there are several better pubs on vicky road.
Dundee; the city is a dump so what do you think the pool hall is going to look like? If you disagree you probably deserve to stay there! The only good thing ever to come out of Dundee is the M90! They only had 4 tables anyway the last time we had a farce there (oops I meant tournament, not farce... nah, right first time!)
Penicuik; where? OK I've been to penicuik, but what rileys??? I remember there's a chippy there... and one nice wee burd in the scheme (ok the whole toon)... but a rileys???
Not gonna miss any of them... good to know the clubs i did frequent are still buzzing =/

i'm hoping that the clubs that are closed are re-opened as independants. I seriously dont know what i'm going to spend my time doing without going down my local rileys....seems strange.

It also says on the Rileys website that you can pick up cues and equipment from the closed clubs on Tuesday 31st at 3-5pm.

it said in the main that the people that bought it were people high up in rileys anyway, so they probably made Valient Leisure to do just that. I'm glad you can collect cue's ect though

Standard practice these days i'm afraid. Put it into liquidation with a friendly administrator of your own choice then buy back what you do want at a rock bottom price because you have put in you own evaluator and its your own administrator. Then start again with all your debts written off. Just different names as the company directors etc. i bet if you look closely you will find the previous director still there as some sort of manager!

It seems a shame that some of the better clubs are closing yet the two dumps we've got in sheffield remain open.

Snooker clubs group Rileys has gone into administration with the loss of 200 jobs and closure of 30 sites, due to a downturn in trade and large debts.
However, the administrators said the future of the other 129 clubs and 1,200 staff had been secured after the sale of the firm's remaining assets.
These have been bought by a new company called Valiant Sports, which includes some of Rileys' existing directors.
The clubs staying open will continue to use the Rileys name.
The administrators from accountancy group Ernst & Young said that while the firm's latest quarterly rent bill - due on Wednesday - did not cause the firm's problems, it had been a factor in the timing of the move into administration.
"The company had been experiencing tough trading difficulties," said joint administrator Simon Allport.
The Rileys clubs being closed include Blackburn, Bracknell, Burnley, Clapham, Debden, Dundee, Glasgow (Victoria Road), Hartlepool, Hounslow, Lancaster, Long Eaton and Luton (Club Snooker).
Also to shut are Luton (Leagrave Rd), Northampton (Derngate), Nuneaton, Oxford (Colours), Penicuik, Peterborough, Rainham, Rotherham (Kimberworth Rd), Rotherham (Doncaster Gate), Rugeley, St Albans, Scarborough, Stanford-Le-Hope, Stretford, Stoke (Fenton), Sutton Coldfield, Wakefield and Weston-super-Mare.
Rileys is based in Milton Keynes. BBC NEWS.

Gutted that St Albans has closed. It was actually part of the reason I moved to St Albans. A bit worried about how to pick up cues. I can't take an afternoon off work to pick up my cues in person. Can someone pick them up on your behalf?

Im sure Ads will agree there is now a huge hole in our life where rileys used to be, i spent most of my life in there to one degree or the other, and many of my fondest memories are there.
Is it wierd to be more sad for the kids that played in the structured ranking events i sorted out, than at the loss of my own job?? Seems to be almost bottom of my thoughts right now..... :s

Davy, don't tell me you ever went there to play? Even the sweetcheeks line doesn't wash in Dundee!
