Like many American pool players, I was originally a snooker player. Turned up at a 9 ball comp with a snooker cue for a laugh and won it and it started from there.
Have never played Uk pub pool really and on the subject of whether snooker helps your pool, I would say it definitely helps cueing but the games are so different that I think it is best not to combine the 2 too much.
P.S. Highest snooker break is 130

been away for a couple of days....just seen this thread..

My highest break is 147 (7 times all in practice) but the last one of these was around 13 years ago!

My highest tournament break was in the 1993 Dubai duty free classic......a 139 which was beaten in the last pre-TV round by a certain Mr Hendry with a 143! (greedy git) lol

And when i was a real youth, i had made over 200 centuries in practice before i was 16 years old!

Similar for me as Mr Gray......just couldnt earn a living so had to make some choices!

Just one fact about Mark Gray.....i believe that he holds the record for most Pro-am wins(think its about 70!!!)

Andy Worthington made a 142 last week in a 1frame snooker match for his local team!

....I think the majority of top UK pool players are at least 140+ men.

Peach.
Gray.
Majid.
Drago.
Hundal.
Appleton.
Hill.
Boyes.
Knight.
Raybone.
Donlon.
Tucker.
Uzzell.
Worthington.

.....and the list goes on!

Just to add to Daryl's comments.......I am friends with Mark Gray and have played him a few times at snooker - still waiting to take some money off him at pool - lol lol lol.

Approx 2-3 years ago - Mark was playing at the local club and had 5 147's in ten days. I mentioned earlier in the thread, 2 of them were against me.

I don't class myself as a decent player - highest break of 76, but the first time I played him, he gave me a 70 start, he broke off and i knocked in 32. Score read 102 - 0, with 104 left on the table......after he had a look at the table, he bet me I would not have another shot and he would beat me by 2 as there was 104 left.

I thought cheeky git, who does he think he is......I won the bet, but only just as he beat me by 1 as he had to take the pink with one of the reds - this was my first experience of playing him and believe me, I made sure he gave me a bigger handicap next time.

I also think a certain young man named Matthew Lawrenson has hit a 147 a few times.

And a notable absentee from Dazzlers list up there is a certain Chris Melling who has racked up at least 20 147s.

I think the most notable absentee is Les Dodd who with the exception of Drago is probably the best snooker player on the uk pool scene. He is still ranked in the top 110 in the world and I think he has lost count of how many tons he has had.

Les is a great player but hasn't really won anything at pool to put him in the 'top UK pool payers bracket' which is what Dazzler's list is. Or has he? Maybe I'm wrong about that. Melling on the other hand has many, many pool honours to his name.

Oh, and Lynette of course has many centuries to her name...

Perhaps a more interesting list would be 'top UK pool players' who are NOT century men/women at snooker. Carl Morris springs to mind. Anyone think of any others?

Forgot to mention also......The 142 that Andy Worthington made last week in a 1 FRAME team match...........he was using his predator!

Mad!

I wouldnt mind but he cant make a 50 with his snooker cue!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! just kidding Andy pal.

I've also had over 30 147s in practise... best tournament break is still only 136. Not my best or highest but probably my favorite century break was a 107 clearance against Niel Robertson in the 2005 Swiss Open last 16 after just losing the first frame from 76 - 0 in front. Bit duff really, but ok for an amature.

I must also add Paul Kellett to the list... I learnt most of what I know about snooker from practising with him at college in the early 90s, he's had countless century breaks against me, and at his best he was scary on a snooker table.

I played Snooker on a YTS scheme when I left school (I'm pretty sure I was the first kid in the UK to do this). I only played for 1 year before going back to Uni but I had a 139 total clearance which is still my best.

My best break was definately 95 absoloutley smashed out of my head in Australia after an all day session, I missed a blue off the spot with 2 reds left! :((

Haven't played for over a year now, definately miss it and its surprising how easy it is to play with a predator/z shaft even on super tight match tables.

Talking of 147's and high breaks, I've had 34....err that's it ....my highest break was 34. Mmm I'll be off now then shall I?

PS: What happened to Paul Kellet? I'm sure he was a a top 10 9ball player but seems to have stopped. Played him once and he did'nt miss a shot.

Had a few 147s in practice against opponents... but not into double figures though like some of you!! Highest tournament break 143 in the Embassy World Championship qualifiying a few years ago in Harrogate. Thought I was in line for the 5 grand pre-televised highest break only for my opponent in the next round, Paul Davison, to knock in a 144 against me and nicked my money! I was so gutted I drove all the way back from Harrogate to Bournemouth straight after the match after I'd already booked a B&B if I won or lost! :-o Damian

I play both snooker and pool at my club but my snooker isn't improving.Snooker is definitely tougher than pool.I wonder if techniques like stance can be used in both games. Can we adopt the same stance?Perhaps I better play pool and leave snooker.Might be wasting time or hurting my game. What is your opinion?Any advice?
