Lottery Predictions are like busses. You wait ages for one then you get 2 in 2 shows! Blaine just did one too! Oh, and no camera trickery was involved in either! Best wishes thecardman

PoolPool My thoughts on it was that it was a great way to get people to watch a one-hour special. "I'll predict the lottery then tell you how it was done." Then you give the viewers a long-winded explanation of how it could (maybe) be done. But if you listen to what he says right at the very end, it speaks volumes. It was along the lines of "...if you ask me how I did it, I'll tell you... it was a trick." (I can't check back just now as I am recording the Blaine special) He's not going to tell how he did it but, as I have said before on here, I am certain that he did not use any camera trickery. He will have seen the slating Criss Angel has received on the magic forums in recent years for using "clever editing" and unusual camera angles and I am sure he wouldn't want to go down that road. To be honest, I am glad he did not explain it fully as it fooled the smeg out fo me - and I loved it! Best wishes thecardman ----------------- The Cardman's Blog

I dont know if he was being a thingy when he was saying like, of course i didn't do that etc for option number 3.
SURELY THIS THING IS A FLAW BECAUSE HE COULD DO IT EVERY WEEK AND MAKES AVERAGE 7 MILLION POUNDS A WEEK RIGHT?
IF HE WAS SO SURE WHY DIDN'T HE MAKE AL OTTERY TICKET?
Where the frig is Blaine these days? i saw him do some of the most unreal poopie ever. He has done more stunts from when he was above the Thames in the box?

Hmmmm indeed.
Agree with Cardman, I wonder what the viewing figures were like!
I still think it was camera trickery though, with a nice mathematical explanation thrown in to help drag it out for an hour and keep it interesting.
Let me think about this. Looks like I'll be studying all that stuff mentioned this weekend...
Anyway, lets suppose his 'deep' maths is correct. The coin trick would work.
I've just done the coin thing and it worked with the second team winning 10-8. But that's not convincing enough for me.
However, one of my old lecturers could accurately tell you if a list of 8 coin tosses were real or made up. He was correct every time, so maybe there is a pattern.
If there's a pattern with random numbers at this simple level, then its possible that there's a pattern with more complex situations like the lottery.
Hmmmm, going to need to read up on this.
Ok then, who's interested in doing the experiment for ourselves? I need 24 people!

Maybe he has done it already which is why he was able to write a cheque for £500,000! lol
Also, how many hits are the websites going to get now? He could potentially make more than 7 million on this stunt alone with referrals etc.
Next week is going to be bloody good!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVOuKZA4_CMWatch it from around 5:45. At 5:51 you can see the far left ball has moved ever so slightly higher than the other 5 (they were all perfectly lined up to begin with) you just need to look at the shadows of the balls against the wall behind it to see. Still, I enjoyed it

mmmmm... 1. The previous predictions could have had been recorded and played back to the 24 volunteers moments later. As Derren Brown says himself the bbc play the live feed at anytime during the programme so how do they know if what they are watching is live or a few mins delay. 2. The live 24 volunteers were nothing more than an unknowing extra in elaborate con. 3. The live 24 volunteers didn't even know if the lottery numbers were really the same numbers they actually selected! 4. Its on TV...

can someone explain to me how he predicts randomness? kinda juxtaposition right there.
e.g. the cup and the knife? how did he work out a pattern?

Haha. Your onto something there Chris! If you concentrate on the far left ball when Derren is repeating out the numbers, you can actually see the ball appear to rise up. It happens at the exact time he is calling 23. Can anyone else see this or is it my blurry eyes seeing blurry balls again. lol. -----------------

I think out of the 24 people, 7 were stooges (the first 6 who calculated the numbers and the guy who couldn't do the sub-concious writing). They would falsely calculate the numbers and it becomes a variation of the predicion magic tricks we've seen before. The belief the other 17 people have that the system works will just add weight to the maths and psychology behind the trick and help convince us. Also, the wisdom of crowds thing. I don't know the truth about this without looking at research papers (I can't be bothered so I could be wrong). Anyway, the first page people will go to to verify this is Wikipedia. When was the article added? About a year ago (which ties in with how long Derren has been working on this). However, there is a lot of psychology involved in these kind of things. It will be possible to predict which cup a person won't choose. Derren will probably get this right 6 or 7 times out of 10. I'd imagine the film could simply be the first case where he was right (in other words, the failures weren't shown). It definitely looks like camera trickery but I think the main trick here is the pschology in that he knows our behaviour - we're looking at websites, going on forums etc. If we weren't doing that, he'd have failed. Poolpool, it's psychology and the outcome from numerous studies in the past. The knife trick might not have even been the first one filmed.
There's a trick where you ask someone to pick a number between 1 and 100 that has even digits. Chances are the person will pick a certain number (I think its 64 or 28 but I can't remember).
If Derren is reading this, I'd happily stab myself in the foot for half a million. You don't need your feet for pool!
