nice post riggers.
Just to add that most of the staff in my local club are my friends, and to find out that one day the manager goes to open the club and is told that they wouldn't be opening again is very sad news, I just wish all staff the best in finding new employment in this tough time

Sad news, but can't say I'm surprised - they were in trouble before I moved to oz (over a year ago), and everything I've seen in the past few years didn't make good business sense to me - I only have decent knowledge of the Scottish clubs, but if their attitude was widespread (which it seemed to be) then it'll be more than 30 that close! Sorry for any staff that lose out as you were the only decent thing behind the name lately!

Bournemouth still open, just spoke to manager and told him about the clubs. He has not been told anything but is going to make a few call and get back to me.
contrakid... making a b-line for his local club to get his cues and balls before they shut!

Wow, talk about timing. My club (Leeds Rileys) was bought by a consortium last year and its now going from strength to strength. If that had not have happened, Leeds would have definately been on the list.
Sorry to hear about everyones clubs. Biggest shock...Wakefield, Stretford and Scarborough...all three are fab clubs.

A new company will keep the clubs open, right? Or are the clubs dead forever?

Yorkshire Evening Posts writes: WAKEFIELD'S Rileys snooker club has closed with the loss of five jobs. The closure of the Northgate club follows the collapse into administration earlier this week of its parent company Rileys Ltd and various subsidiaries. Simon Allport and Tom Jack of business services firm Ernst & Young were appointed joint administrators on Tuesday. Rileys Ltd operated pool and snooker clubs throughout the UK. Headquartered in Milton Keynes, it employed approximately 1,400 employees across 159 sites. Following their appointment, the joint administrators sold the assets of the business to Valiant Sports Ltd, for an undisclosed sum. The new owner is understood to include some of the firm's existing directors. The clubs will continue to trade as Rileys in 129 sites, including Leeds, Castleford and Pontefract, which will remain open for trading as usual. However 30 sites, which were not part of the sale, have closed - including Wakefield and Scarborough, where six jobs were lost. Mr Allport said: "The companies have been experiencing tough trading difficulties due to a downturn in trade and a heavy debt burden and were unable to trade outside of administration. "Fortunately we have been able to secure a deal, which means 129 sites will continue to trade and the brand and 1,200 jobs will be preserved."
