So the Question is who is going to win the Rookie Search For A Star Comp????

Jonathan Vaughan – Let me start by saying this guy doesn’t travel from Wales to make the numbers up. Jonny ‘JV’ Vaughan has winning T9B form by winning the Amateur Series Grand Finals in 2012. A good performance was shown by Vaughan when he was last in competitive action , reaching the Amateur Series Event 4 Semi Final. Jonathan is now putting in the hours practice at Terry Griffiths Matchroom in Llanelli and therefore should be ready for this event.

Verdict – Winner

Mark Parker – Mark is another player in the field with T9B winning form as he won an Amateur series event last season. Mark didn’t make the best of starts to this season and seemed low on confidents, he has however turned this around now though with a Semi Final finish at the comp at Pockets in Gravesend, followed by a win over Alison Fisher at GB9, he also recently was a runner up at T9B Amateur series Event 3 and reached the Semi Finals of the High Wycombe Hurricane Open. Parker seems to now be in top form and determined to win another event however he does have a -1 handicap to overcome. Marks safety game at times is brilliant giving him a chance against any player as he can really boss matches.

Verdict – In with a good chance if hitting top gear

Tom Staveley – Tom has finally got a T9B title under his belt, it has been long awaited. Many players really rate Tom as a very player and a top talent for the future. I think that now Tom has broken down the barrier of Winning an event he can win many more. Tom Staveley is a very hard worker on the practice table and has through T9B a lot of tournament experience. Tom does however like Mark has a -1 handicap to overcome and things didn’t work out to well for him off this new handicap at the last event. Tom is also known for getting the worst draws available regularly.

Verdict – Great chance now with winning form, I expect a top performance from Tom at the Rookie

Aslam Abubaker – Aslam is currently enjoying a string of great results. Aslam was runner up at the BWPPA tour in Barnsley a few weeks ago and followed this up by reaching the final of the most recent T9B Amateur Series. Aslam with confidents is a dangerous player and I believe the key to his recent success is his never give up attitude this showed in the last T9B event when he fought back to win matches 7v6 from 6v1 and 5v1 down.

Verdict – I think Aslams fine form will continue and I expect him to be involved in the latter stages of this event

Tony Burton – Going back a few years now Tony Burton was real up and coming player expected to achive great things in 9ball pool, however recently Tony has been struggling results wise at T9B hence a reduction to his handicap. Tony has a very good cue action and when on form can make the game look o so simple. As the saying goes form is temporary but class is permanent, it wont be long until Tony takes down an event I’m sure.

Verdict - I think at the Rookie we will see the quality of Tony Burton and if he hits top gear he will be hard to beat

Scott Foley – Scott is very casual around the table with a real American pool playing style. Scott recently won the event held in Gravesend beating myself in the final. Scott played some great pool that day in his home club and if he can transfer that form to St Albans he is in with a great chance in this very open event.

Verdict – Scott is a very capable player and I think he will be a contender at this event

My predictions -

1st - Johnny Vaughan
2nd - Tony Burton
Semis - Mark Parker, Sunny Garib

Probably put the kiss of death on these players chances though!
