Just found an email from Gre about the World 9-Ball Championship qualifier that was scheduled for Weert.

It appears as though it is not going ahead because Matchroom and the WPA still are not sure that the event will take place in 2008.

I am not sure if anyone else might be able to provide more info?

This was the email from Gre...

"Dear All,

With regrets I have to inform you that we have to cancel the planned qualifier for the WC 9-Ball ( which was planned after the Euro Tour in Weert ). The reason for this decision which was taken in the light of the fact that Matchroom informed us that in spite of all attempts it still is not sure that the WPA WC 9-Ball will take place in 2008. In spite of all efforts there is still no local organizer found that want to host the WC 9-Ball. There is still a slight chance but it looks like it that it will not happen. Of course the WPA and Matchroom will do what even can be done to find an organizer and we will inform you a.s.a.p. when the situation will change but for the time being the WC 9-Ball 2008 is not going to happen.

Regards,

Gre Leenders

EPBF President"

Sounds like the beginning of the end to me when the flagship 9 ball event doesn't go ahead.
Sorry to be so down beat..I guess the weather is getting to me.

maybe this is'nt such a bad thing to happen, alot of players prefer 10-ball so maybe we will see more and more 10-ball tournaments

obviously it is a shame the 9-ball wc might not go ahead and for the players who already had a place in the tournament too miss out

all it means is that daryl wont lose his crown for at least another year.....

Here's a random thought. Does the World 9-Ball have to be played in The Philippines? Or the Far East for that matter? Would there be a chance of brining it back to Europe (or even the UK)?

Now, I know I am very premature in asking this, but it is something that I would like to know as I, along with everyone else on this forum (and many others forums alongside), want to see WPC 9-Ball taking place.

Best wishes

I am sure that the 9 Ball WPC could be held in any country that can put up the cash.
What about Scotland, anyone got a million bucks
that they would like to part with? (ha ha Joke)

We had this info in Germany, basically it will boil down to how badly Barry Hearn wants his £££ from putting it on, there is no reason why it could not be put on in Cardiff again if no one else stumps up the money...

personally - i think it will still go ahead, its the one thing every year that has been consistent with 9ball - massive blow if it doesnt.........

not good for the Eurotour either, it would throw up all sorts of questions but to be honest i think we should all just wait for a while before thinking this is over...

lets wait for further official announcements before worrying about it, they still have 6-8 weeks i think before they would need to announce? Its in the callender so the dates are already set, just the venue and sponsors.......

1 Q - how bad does Barry want it?

Ossie

I think the email is referring to local organisers willing to put up the cash to host the event.

That tells me they are already investigating different countries and not getting many offers.
