my thoughts for what its worth
same rules as eurotour.we have to try bring back the hard break not the terrible soft break or cut break....
its making 9ball look stupid as when you see the top players hit them full on and park the white it looks good to the viewers

How do we all feel about putting some of the responsibility for noticing dry break onto the breaker and not just his/her opponent? I suggest that after breaking the breaker is obliged to look at opponent and get nod that break is ok before continuing? or is that a bit mad?

That is a bit mad. When I'm sat down in my chair I do my best to stay focussed so don't want to have to keep acknowledging every break - I don't even want to think about who I'm playing. I'm sure people have their own techniques for staying focussed which I'm guessing is why dry breaks have been missed so would feel the same.
I think the rule should be this.. if you're breaking against me, then it's dry. If I break, then it's ok.

No Seriously I think we should leave everything as is apart from lose the 3 point rule and bring in one of those machine from the tennis tournaments that can measure the speed of the ball! If you don't break over 40mph or something then its a dry break.
What do ya think?
Well in a perfect world...

Hawkeye? I like the way people blantantly accept it's 'decisions' simply because it's a piece of technology.

I think the rule should be this.. if you're breaking against me, then it's dry. If I break, then it's ok. But acordinging to the WPA rules it is your responsilibity as opponent to notice and call dry break. If you are sitting in your chair not paying attention then that's your problem. I am not even suggesting a new rule just another bit of sportsmanlike conduct until we all get used to remembering to look for dry breaks (breaker or opponent) ----------------- Andy Warden, GB9 - Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor √

I think it's pretty reasonable to put the responsibility on the opponent to be paying attention to the break and call a dry break.
We use a similar thing in Blackball rules, where if a ball is touching the cushion it's considered frozen and if you don't strike the cushion with the white then you must hit another cushion.
But it's your opponent or the referees responsibility to call a frozen ball, not yours as the player to say it's not frozen before playing the shot.
So don't see why the same thing can't be done for the break off.
I would have thought with the 3 point break that all opponents would be watching like hawks hoping to get to the table....

I can't stand all that nominating that goes on with English pool. How can you call a foul just because you forgot to say something?
I don't even think you should have to nominate a push out if it's blatantly obvious you're not trying to hit the 1 ball.

think that whatever rules are in place we should just get on with it until the rules are changed and accept whatever rules they are and whilst 3 point rule is in place players if they can,t trust their opponents should watch all breaks cause if as has been said in other posts players were admittin they carried on after not achieving the 3 points then it seems we have to be more dilligent that way you get to know who does what and have no more problems and we can all just get on with what we are there to do and thats play pool and hopefully with a smile on our faces
