http://www.milliondollar9ball.com/format.htmlAlmost 100 players registered already, about 75 000 $ first price with the amount of players today. Will increase with more players. It is on the same dates as the European Championships. Will be interesting to see what WPA/EPBF will do, considering the Spain/Qatar-issue... Any Brits going? IPT returns from the dead!!! Hope this is for real but noticed the 'players interested' didn't feature any UK players. Anyone going to spend £500 or whatever the entry is?

Anyone going to spend £500 or whatever the entry is? Are you havin' a laugh!!!! That's $5K entry! Maybe a qualifier if it's real deal. The organiser seems an ok Guy but anyone could all run a "Subject to entries" comp. (I would) Guarantee the money and it's a flyer! JMO. P.S. If anyone wants to set up a similar type thing, I'll do the website!!!! (subject to entries.....lol) -----------------

There is a clash of dates and by now all the participants for the European Championships should have been anounced. If the EPBF are going to follow the line taken over the Spanish tournament they will have to ban those players already entered in the EC and who now wish to change their minds. Our tournament has suffered badly from this ruling. We have one of the biggest prizes in European pool (10,000 euros, $15,000)and it has only attracted half a dozen European players although we expect to reach nearly 200 players from Spain I feel like giving up BTW. The prize money is guaranteed and there is still time to sign up. [ This message was edited by: malaguista on 2008-06-04 06:33 ]

malaguista: I really feel your pain about the Qatar/Spain-issue... I can't believe how they can do such a thing, and with no players standing up complaining.
If for example Imran feels he has a better chance of making profit by going to Spain instead of Qatar, well then he should be able to choose that option, especially since EPBF/Eurotour is not guaranteeing them a yearly salary by playing on the eurotour. If the money were better on the eurotour I could have understood their action a little better, but I still wouldn't accepted it...

I suppose we have to look at this from various viewpoints. The players feel agrieved because they are being told where they should play and in this case where thay cannot play. As far as I know there is no financial aid available for those that are going to Qatar and this is why people are upset over the decision. The nominated players from the EPBF are not being forced to go to Qatar but if they do not go, they are blocked from playing in any other tournament at the same time.
We have an organisation responsible for the sport, i.e the WPA and this is how it should be especially if we have hopes of ever reaching Olympic status. THe WPA members are the continental federations who organise tours and tournaments at a "local level" We also need these for the sport to continue in some sort of a professional manner.
The Qatar event is sanctioned by the WPA as an official event and therefore the members like the EPBF, APBU etc have an obligation to support the tournament.
Our tournament was planned a year ago, I took steps to ensure that there was nothing on the calendars that would clash with our dates. I contacted two organisations that ran tournaments on the same dates as us last year to make sure that this year there would not be a clash.
I personally knew nothing about the Qatar event until the 20th March of this year when I applied for EPBF sanctioning. The Qatar event was not and as far as I know still is not on the EPBF calendar, this is what bugs me.
I think that the EPBF have a responsability to keep players completely up to date, after all, organisers as well as players have to prepare their own calendars well in advance.
I would be interested to hear other balanced views.

That will be a day to remember, to see EPBF ban players like Souquet, Engert, Ortmann - who have all signed up for the million dollar tournament.. The Spain / Qatar clash has again showed us that EPBF can do what they want with the players, even if the players cant live on what they get out of Eurotour. Every time something new comes up which may or may not affect Eurotour, the standard reply is this: "If you do that we will ban you". When will we have the first "Bosman" case in pool?

I can't see many brits doing this. 5 at the tops. This qualifers are £100 a man but you need 30 players to make one entry fee of roughly £3,000. So that's one person
Then there's Daz, Imran, Drago, Peach, Gray and a couple of others. It comes down to money and whether it will actually happen. There will be a lot of wait and see. A lot of people got burnt by the IPT, can they be sure it won't happen again?

I have thought about running a qualifier over here but would need 32 players at around £100 a man to offer a full entry plus flights - anyone interested?

The 'Bosman' ruling was over freedom of contract. As far as I am aware the Eurotour players are not contracted. They may also have a point to make as pool is their living, by blocking players you are limiting their ability to earn a living.
It would be different if like in Snooker the top 16 were contracted and guaranteed a certain amount of money per year but this does not happen in pool.

Well they found another milkcow! I wanted my 10th anniversary Open Weert on the calendar from 26 till 1 February 2009. Normally you pay €200,- to get on the EPBF calendar.
Now they send me a PDF file with the new sanctioning catalogue! My categorie is B, this is for open tournaments with a prizefund of €20.000,- or €10.000,- added. The sanctioning fee for this tournament would be €500,- per playing day, that would be €3500,- for me to get my tournament sanctioned!!!
The only change is, that the tournament would be awarded point to players for the EPBF ranking, and there is a possibility to have a co-operation with Betandwin!
For example a Eurotour is a categorie A tournament and they pay 5% of the total prize money wich is €2200,-
I will keep you updated how this ends... Don't like at all.

Wow, that's just plain stupid...
I really hope you will keep up with the Open Weert, Maurice. Don't give up, fight for your rights.
What is it EPBF wants? That no one wants to organize pool tournaments anymore???
There are so many stupid and silly things going on in the politics of pool...
