I just had a look at the Euro Tour "Hall of Fame" and some interesting trivia.
See if you can guess the following from the top of your head without looking at their website.
Q1) Who and when was the last person to win back to back Euro Tour events?
Q2) Who has the longest running streak (event wins) in Euro Tour history and how many?
Q3) How many players have won back to back Euro Tours and who were they?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I was also looking through the latest rankings after the recent event in Germany. I know it's still very early and a long way off but here are some stats on them before year end.
Thomas Engert is in a formidable position to be selected automatically for the Mosconi Team with his nearest challenger Bruno Muratore. It would take a very bad run for one of them not to make it.
There are 4 following behind who are in with a chance if they slip up:- Darren Appleton, Neils Feijen, Markus Juva & Mark Gray.
I reckon it'll be one of those 6 for the automatic pick.
To finish the year as No1, I think it's a 3 horse race with Engert in front followed by Appleton and Drago.
Again, these are very early predictions but they won't be too far away.

i reckon GRANITE GRAY has the best chance with muratore the next best placed.
engert has only an outside chance he is defending 5th and 9th respectivly in the next two comps, will lose points for sure
i think mark will edge it if he qualifies in both comps he will only lose 145 points off his total which leaves the rest alot of work to do
mark gray 'keep the house, im outta here' a quote from the european no.1

In saying all that (above), Mark Gray blew all my theories away going on last year's listings but I would think that is a one off for a new player to the tour. I stand by my predictions.....lol.

The questions are far too hard... I will answer Souquet to all of them in the hope that I get lucky with one of them! Fascinating though!

Answers to quick questions above... Q1) Johnny Archer, season 2000. Q2) Oliver Ortmann with 4 consecutive wins (1994). Q3) Archer (2000), Ortmann (1994 foursome, 1996), Souquet (1999, 1993/4), Engert (1992) So apart from the early years of the tour, back to back wins haven't been regular with the last one done 8 years ago. This shows the strength and depth of the current pool of competitiors in these events, which again can be seen on a worldwide scale with numerous International titles won by European players. Other non-Europeans to win an event are Francisco Bustamante (1998 & 2000), Ismael Paez (1998 ) along with Archer (2000). The last time a Euro Tour was won by the most succesful players in the event history were: Souquet (2003) and Ortmann (2004). Brits have won the last 5 from 8 events and runner up in another (if you include Tony Drago). Do you think the balance of power is shifting from Germany to the UK in that respect? Hope you enjoyed the trivia as it makes interesting reading. [ This message was edited by: devil on 2008-05-28 13:59 ]

If you mean back-to-back as winning two in a row, I think Sandor Tot did that just a few years ago...
Yeah, Archer competed in 2 Eurotours in 1999, and won both of them. The only 2 tournaments where top Americans have entered...
Wish there could be some more Americans coming over, and get their a$$es kicked

Hi RugRat,
Sander Tot won two events a few yrs back (2004) but they were not back to back wins.
According to the ET website, both of Archer's wins were in 2000.
Other notable players to compete from outside Europe are Marlon Manalo (Phi) and Rafael Martinez (Mex).

Ok, I haven't checked the stats, so I believe you Anyway, Sandor Tot won 2 eurotours in a row, and was ranked nr 1 that year, but didn't get any invite to any tournaments... Guess EPBF/WPA/Matchroom changes the rules regarding ranks and invites all the time, depending on who's on top

Hi RugRat, I think you'll find that Sandor Tot did play in the World Pool Masters that year actually. He lost 8-1 in the first round to Thomas Engert. Thanks, Chris. [ This message was edited by: Chrstc on 2008-06-01 17:23 ]

Yeah, but the winner of the rankings are also supposed to play the Mosconi Cup.
Same thing happened the year when Tom Storm and Niclas Bergendorff was on top of the ranking. I think both of them stopped competing on the eurotour after that season.
