----------------------------------------------------------------- Paddy Power backs gay rugby tournament Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has pledged €100,000 to sponsor an international gay rugby tournament. Paddy Power's marketing director Ken Robertson said the sponsorship might raise a few eyebrows, before adding that they were not scared of that. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Discuss! or ? i think that this is compleatly unfair, it would be called discrimination if somebody paid money to sponsor a hetrosexual tournament, because we're exluding homosexual people. Its got to be the same on both sides, and until it is im going to say its unfair.
Apart from that i'm sure it will be a laugh for the people who do enter it

The point is what a fantastic way to get your name mentioned in the unlikeliest places. This is a pure marketing ploy, in the 'any publicity is good publicity' mould.
Discrimination - probably not, and who cares anyhow. It's hardly as if we live in a society that has ridden itself of homophobia is it.
P.S. note to Riggers. Perhaps we need a gimmick like this for GB9 - first cross dressers only tour, we're all transexuals who used to be called doris tour or something like that (yes I hereby resign from the committee).

This type of thing is so unbelievably hypocritical. Paddy Power are masters at getting free press. They regularly pay out VERY early on things like Premiership if there is a large lead. Like Ads said if it was straights only they would be lambasted and shunned, it's a bit like ladies only gyms, try opening a lads only gym and you would have objections all over the place by feminists. I think this is a reaction of a news article I read a while ago when a gay rugby team said no one would play them because of that. [ This message was edited by: mal_clarke on 2007-11-30 14:46 ]
