Hi again all, I am going to speak to the manager this thursday to check when we can get the tables again. I am thinking of Sunday Feb 17th same format as the last one. The only difference will be that as many as wish to enter can until the 1st of Feb and that places will only be reserved when the payment is received. Your thoughts on the date and format would be appreciated. Full details will be posted when i have a confirmed date. [ This message was edited by: simmo77 on 2007-11-27 20:54 ]

My suggestion, which I think will be backed up by the many, is to not use the tables in the side room and to allow me to win the thing.

I actually thought the tables in the front room played ok.

Riggers did you only play on the two tables at the end?? The next two tables had awful cushions, cloth and a lovely post in the way of certain shots. Same for both players obviously, but would be nice to play on a decent table.

Yep, I played at the end. I know the pillars get in the way sometimes but I really like the club as it seems to have a great atmosphere and the staff are great.

I agree that the tables in the front room are not great but if there are 32 or more players we do need them.
You never know the manager might look into getting them sorted by Feb.

Not knocking the club as I thought it was fantastic. The people who decided the layout of the tables need a bit of a smack though for not making sure that the tables would have enough room around them. Though that also may have been to do with the fact that they needed a certain amount of tables and that was the best way to fit them in. I did try moving a pillar but it was quite solid and wouldn't budge. Perhaps I needed to play better positional shots....lol

Craig believe me no one has been more annoyed with those pillars than me.
The amount of deciding racks where i have slightly over ran position then had to pull out the old cut back 9 ball with half a cue trick.
When failing to make a crucial shot like that though i find it helps to completely blame the pillars and not the poor positional shot you just played. Then proceed to throw your cue across the hall. (Obviously something i have seen and not actually done!)

I have to agree that it is always handy to have a ready made excuse for missing a shot and those pillars are perfect.
Either that or a person walking across your path, a slight noise, someone breathing 10 miles away slightly too loudly. I have used all of these and many more. If I can find nothing to blame I may own up to playing an awful shot.

I doubt anything can be done about the pillars as it will probably involve major structural work so that comes with expense and possibly building control issues. I don't blame Rileys for putting the tables there as most locals (casual players)obviously don't mind that much because they keep coming back and using them - it's one of the busiest Rileys clubs in the country. So whilst it's not great from a serious player's perspective it makes perfect business sense if you ask me. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-11-28 15:46 ]

Just spoke to the manager and that date is fine, he also tells me the tables in the front room will have new cloth and cushions by then.
I will wait until early next week and get all the details on here.
