If double knockout all the way what happens if the player coming through the winners side loses in the final? Do they play the final once more? That's what should happen if it's double knockout all the way. If they only play the final once you mean 'double knockout to the final'. This needs to be clarified or you will have agruments. Everyone playing in a double elimination tournament should lose twice before getting knocked out.
Therefore, the player who gets to the final from the losers side should beat them twice to win since their opponent hasn't lost a game yet.

i agree with JP, if player on winners side loses in final he or she will come back and will have to win 2 sets to go trough.

I seriously think you need to calculate some figures for this event. With entrys at £30 you will do well to cover 1/2 the expenses needed to enter the U S OPEN leaving a shortfall of around £500-£600. Return Flights £500 Entry to event £260 Hotel 6 nights (min) £300 Taxis or trains to and from airports (approx) £100 ------------- Total £1160 -------------- I think a realistic number of entrys would be around 20 leaving a masive shortfall and even if you did manage to get 40 entrys required the tournament would take 2 days to complete (double elim all the way). Maybe if you increase the entry fee or change the format this event could be a success. I know your post states all money taken in will go towards expenses but unless you were going anyway who would pay £600 to attend this event.

I agree with you m8 and if it is allright with everybody else i'll be happy to up the entry to £50 or what ever the amount to get a player going to the States.

Sounds a bit like finger in the air stuff sneakypete. Not being funny but have you actually worked out minimum / maximum numbers and match timings for the double elim event to prove your format is viable?

have even really thought about how everything works??? what do you do if you don't get enough entries to fund everything.. are you just gonna give the winner the money and let him sort it out for the rest? and what are you gonna do if that person doesn't book the trip? might as well promote it as a normal tournament!!!

im sorry but dont want to go to the bathroom anyone off but yet again someone is trying to do the the best for uk pool, in this instance a US Open qualifier
and as it frequently happens on here, the would be promoter gets, negative after negative responses, why cant people just get together and help these people, after all evreyone keeps barking on about making the UK american pool scene better.
thats just my opinion

i'm just asking what he is going to do if he doesn't get enough runners? i personally know how difficult it is to run tournaments.. so don't even start about it
