Why not play the event on the Sunday instead of the plate - i am sure all the places will be taken up then. Just a thought! [ This message was edited by: 187mph on 2010-04-01 08:51 ]

Just a thought! The plate normally starts about 2pm on a limited number of tables with short races to fit it all in due to the main event still going on. Would people be happy to play race to 5 for that amount of money or did you just make that suggestion before engaging brain?

How exceptionally rude - i have tried to make a positive suggestion, so that the event can go ahead!
What is your suggestion?

I think the best suggestion on here has been for someone else to run a qualifier instead. Like Chris says, theres no stopping someone running an event somewhere central, Nottingham for example, providing GB9 were ok with that and then have a player run the event....
I would then enter.... at the moment i cant committ to another day in blackpool - im sure if you ran a comp in Nottingham run by the players we could then organise payout for 2nd and Semi's providing we had 32 runners?
anyway - just a suggestion, trying to put a silver lining on whats obviously turned out to be a rather sour thread....
Maybe i will email Andy and see whats what....
Ossie - probably cant go to Vegas anyway due to work committments, but would help to get a qualifier run just because i think it may be bad press if we had to hand a spot back?! Wouldnt want to hinder our future opportunities......

I am not necessaritly a proponent of the qualifier being run by the players as, in my opinion, it is a bit of a kick in the teeth for the GB9 committee. They have clearly made huge sacrifices so that we can play with the best equipment in professional conditions. If the tour generates some extra revenue for GB9, rather than paying out a bit of prize money for runner-up etc, I think people should show a little more gratitude for the opportunity - entry isn't obligatory after all.
All that said, if the qualifier is run by players and, assuming there are 32 runners paying £90 entry (£2880), my suggestion for structuring the prize fund would be:
1) Winner - Spot in WPM, Flight, Hotel £1600 2) Runner-up - Flight, Hotel, Entry in to the final qualifiers in Vegas £1100 3) Semi's - Get £90 entry back = £180
As i understand there are 2 spots up for grabs in Vegas before the WPM. If someone loses in the final in the UK having a chance to a) Go to Vegas b) Have another crack at qualifying is a decent prize in itself. For those unfortunate enough to lose in the semis, at least you get your £90 back.
The decision to run this qualifier lies with GB9. Whatever they decide should be accepted and respected by all of the players.

G - based on GB9's comments earlier in this thread there are other costs to pay e.g. fees to Matchroom as they take a cut from the Qualifier profits too, presumably tp help pay for the running of the event. So your figures would not be possible.
All this speculation from players who think they can do a better job than the organisers is hilarious. Just leave pool organisation to the people who are willing to put the effort in and for those that don't or won't stick to playing.

I appreciate there are other costs, hence why they, rightly in my opinion, don't offer prize money.
My figures were based on a scenario where players ran the event assuming tables were free at a different venue etc...
Whatever happens, let's hope another brit get a spot!

Whatever happens, let's hope another brit get a spot! Exactly my point - your figures like many people posting were based on a scenario that has half the facts and is not actually possible. Matchroom don't offer the qualifiers on those terms - I've seen the contract. People should stop speculating and criticising the GB9 team (and I realise you haven't criticised them) unless they have the full facts or are willing to do the work themselves.
