yeah and thats the right thing to do. The headstring is always the second diamond up the side of the table (please correct me if im wrong as I dont know that for sure).

It might be just me but Im looking out for it, the same way as if your opponent is bridging over a ball, you would make sure they dont touch the ball they are bridging over.

Obviously, you would expect the player to call the foul themselves but you can challenge it, or ask someone to look at the shot while it is being played.

All very interesting reading! …finally got a mention on Pro9 - must be doing something right...or perhaps wrong?!

On reflection, I was probably a bit slower than normal...but most definitely not in any unsporting manner – just simply down to pressure! Believe me, I was trying like I've never tried before and that probably lead to a little bit more time being taken on what many of those watching would consider 'drop ins'...it's easy from the side though isn't it!

Run outs are never straightforward to someone who hasn’t played too much at the highest level and this was probably the biggest 9ball game I've played in.

Great event and great game - right so i'd better get some speed practice in!

I took a look at the pro tube and you tube etc, i cant believe what i am seeing here, what happened to sportsmanship?
This guy is supposed to set an example for younger up and coming players, i just cant get my head round why he feels the need to do it, after all he is number one on the gb9 ranking list.
Imagine how many times he has done this from the start of gb9, out of about 300 racks played maybe 25, 30 times?
No wonder he says he feels like Rodger Federer of gb9 on the interview, difference is Federer is a real sportsman and wins fairly.

Amazing!

andy, am not sure the soft break would work under the conditions we play in with 9ball on spot... with tv cameras and super fast cloth and heat its going to work better..on the euro tour few of us was trying the soft break in practise and very rarely the wing ball would go 9 on spot... yes the cut break can still be done ,but at least got to hit decent pace.. and most of time you are making the 1BALL not the wing ball..which means less chance of getting a shot on next lowest ball... as of the moment on gb9 the cut break is controlling the one ball which heads to the same top pocket all the time depending which side you are breaking from..

for me this will make big difference to playing conditions and players will improve there game more and get to play some pool... ie all aspects of the game be needed.

at the moment 80% of the time a player breaks meduim pace makes 2-3 balls and left with 6 balls over bags... this was all happening on euro tour last year before they brought the 9 onto spot this year and its made big difference to euro tour, and now its become a game on euro tour..

to me its not enjoyable to play under the conditions we play in.... then on top of that ppl are are bad sports. but unfortunatly its my job so got to play and accept what happens...

but its no excuse why i got beat at weekend i just played bad and deserved to lose in both events.

I really do not see any reason why everybody on the tour wouldnt want 9ball on the spot starting from next event?

i think now we are seeing why imran has won 4 on the trot unreal.fair play but questions need to be asked.plus players missing straight balls for the match.lol.how many times must he of come up dry..i understand that players sometimes dont realise but that was blatant.
any player who uses the cut break has more chance to come up dry than players hitting them hard.so if they come up dry and say they didnt notice now and again how can we be certain they are not cheating ?

Just a quick comment on this bit of what your saying Daz. I noticed the other day that some big names in the GB 9, when racking for your opponent, seem to rack the 2 ball in one of the slots behind the 9 for every one of your breaks. I presume this is so if the 1 ball goes in the chances are the 2 ball will be down the bottom end of the table.

Sorry to bring this up in this thread but didnt really want to make a new post when we are talking about rules. Surely this is against the rules as it says that the balls should be placed randomly

Probably gonna regret saying anything as I can hear the retorts already :-D but I think I'm qualified to comment on slow play.

As some of you may be aware   I'm not the quickest and surprise surprise I'm aware that this has, and still does irritate a few players. But, do I or other slow players do this intentionally as a 'tactic' or a form of 'gamesmanship' - hand on heart I can say NO, and I suspect other players who don't run around the table can say the same.

I'm simply trying to get the best out of my own game and the slow pace is a part of that. Some players make decisions and shot selections in seconds and can stick to that and execute effectively. Others' brains just don't work that way and need more time to process things and make a decision they can work with and execute without all those nagging voices that lead to mental errors, missed shots, position etc. We're all individuals, and our brains work in different ways, process information differently etc. etc. For me pace of play is simply related to that.

So if it's used to get in the other player's head and gain an advantage that way I think it slurps, but if it's done in order to maximise ones own performance then if you've got a problem with it then it's simply that - your problem. How can you tell the difference between the two? Well if a player consistently plays slow then they're either consistently sharking every opponent or consistently trying to get the best out of themselves. I know which camp I fall into.

Bombard away :-D

Yes Jonathan you do play slow, but do you know what?.....

I actually quite like it. I have made many comments to other players before about you, and why they should watch and learn. MOST players do not play like drago and although i consider myself to be a fast player, at times (namely when i miss) i wish i'd taken more time on the shot.

Besides ar'nt most of the people playing snooker lovers? quite a few brought up on griffiths/thorburn and co?

So my 2p worth is this. When your playing - play, when your not just sit back, watch and enjoy the game. Sure beats working!!

My comment on the break issue is simple. the rules at present are the rules, and unfortunately for Scott, it is his responsibility to watch the break. wether or not we like the way it was handled and the question of sportsmanship brought up at the end of the day each player plays to win and that should include watching your opponent at all times.

Lee and Shir, Great comp again thank you and well done, as for the golf lee i wouldnt bother mate. no point breaking ya heart over two sports!!

Finally, Scarborough what an awsome club. Amazing staff - who genuinely cared!, how refreshing. I was the first in with Riggers sat morning and the staff had already been there an hour cleaning every table - Properly! great club, even beating barnsley to best club so far (and thats saying something as George has very high standards!).

See you all in manchester!

In my opinion, there is zero difference between playing slow and playing fast.

Both can knock an opponent out of their stride in equal measures yet I've never once heard anyone suggest that a fast player, such as Tony Drago, is playing excessively fast in order to gain a pyschological edge. We swap our shakes of the head in frustration at the slow player making the balls; for a shake of the head in admiration for the quick player making exactly the same balls.

I'm sure any fast, instinctive player, if asked "do you think your pace affects your opponent", they would say they couldn't give two hoots..........lets have a bit of respect for the slower, methodical players who give the same answer.
