I'm not doubting Chris' ability to put on a great show. He seems like a top bloke. Bu I just think myself and Poolio would like some idea of what we're playing for. It is HIGHLY UNUSUAL to announce prize structure AFTER the tournament, in ANY sport. It hardly inspires trust. I think 99% of sportsman (in fact 99% of anyone who has to front money in order to make a gain) would like to know what they are playing for and what goal to strive for before they start. We are being reasonable. As we have have already stated, if you can't give end figures, give conservative figures based on lower entry fee. If that is too tricky then just tell us which places (ie Winner, RU & semi losers), and % you intend on giving to each one. You don't need to know how many entrants or how much money will be available to give details of % of fund! I'm sure Poolio and a great many of other likely entrants would appreciate a response from the organiser himself Chris. Look forward to your answer. Many thanks

In short.....Are you paying to the last 8 and what percentage can the winner and runner up expect?

When i said the end of the tournament what I mean is once i have collected all of the entrance fee's and have got the group stage games started then i would work out a reasonable payout to players ie. what Im going to pay out to last 24, last 16, last 8 or the last 4. I would like to pay out to the last 24, so if you qualified for the knock out stages then you would be into receiving some prize money. The thing is it would not be very good if you paid £30 to enter and win back £10. So i cannot give you percentage on prize money I dont how much im going to collect. At the end of the day you are going to pay £30 for a good 5 hours of table time more if you qualify to the knock out stage. You tell me were in a Rileys club you could play for 5 hours or more for that price. The tournaments that I organize are for players who want to just play pool, play different players and not just think about how much money is in the pot, what % is be ing paid out, if all money in is paid out. I organize tournaments for the philipino players in south London and not once have any of them mentioned whats the prize money, what you paying out to. They pay there money play and enjoy the whole day of playing pool. As a organizer thats so refreshing not hear people banging on about prize money. Personally I like to put my time into making a really good smooth tournament not how much % and money to pay out. [ This message was edited by: Blackref on 2008-06-14 14:52 ]

That's a nice honest answer from you, thanks. I am not at all motivated by the money involved in the tournament as i don't think for one minute that i'm going to win. But to avoid answering the question so far, which you have been, you are hardly inspiring people to enter. People are more likely to enter a tournament if they feel there is some kind of structure involved. I am playing the tournament cos i want to meet new people and play new people and be with fellow enthusiasts. My local rileys charges £10 for 7 hours of play btw, but i appreciate your point. I am still really looking forward to tomorrow, just wanted clarification on something, as do other potential players. Noone likes to enter a tournament if they know that only 10% is going to prizes. In terms of tournaments - a reasonable split and up front honesty from the organiser is all a lot of people want. Thanks for sorting all that out. May we all have a great day tomorrow!!

I agree with Chris...Personally, I'm goin to join this tourney for fun and the opportunity to play with good players and not mainly for the prizes...I believe this is a good way to improve my game...See you all tomz....

Nice turn out. Let's hope they all come up to Barnsley and then Nottingham and we keep these open events going.

Another great event Chris and a Top report Dave. Had a good day with plenty of pool. It was smoothly run as always. Never had to wait long for the next match. Good mix of players, we could do with more of these events. Excellent value all for £30

Good job I wasn't there. I would have needed to slap Folan round the head for wearing jesus sandles and socks. In fact, I am going to save him one for the next GB9 event.

Just been looking at the results and noticed that Gareth Esprit 'retired' in his quarter final match, what was the reason for this???

Folan already took alot of flak for wearing them sandles and WHITE socks. HAHAHA the funny thing is he thought it looked good. I would not have let him play wearing them.

I think but not 100% sure but there was a touching ball issue too. (whether it was a push shot or not) It was touching or extremely close and the ref came over and then wayne potted the ball. Then I think he stopped playing soon after. Shame really as I thought he was playing well up to that point. If he doesn't want to carry on then that's fine it's up to him. It's not like he was on the TV Table at the time. The real crime was Steve Forlan's sandals/ sock/ cap combo. It put me off!! [ This message was edited by: expertfluke on 2008-06-16 15:09 ]
