excuse me for being thick but whats a ring game and im not sure of the rules at either 9 ball or 10 ball, cheers in advance lee or shir on givin me a run down before i collect my winnings

ah scupper that just had a look at my group again

First of all I'll say the rules for the ring game will be posted and agreed by everyone on Saturday and the qualifier will just be a straight game of 10 ball single knockout as usual.

Now I'll try and explain briefly what a ring game is...

Let's say you have 5 players involved. You all play on the same table and you draw names out to agree the order (like you might with Killer). You play normal 10 ball, with a few exceptions to the rules to be agreed by everyone like whether combos are allowed or shots have to be called, but basically it's a normal game of 10 ball. The player who pots the 10 wins the rack and breaks in the next rack. You'll all start on 250 points (because you put £250 in) and you agree an amount to play for each rack (in this case 25). If you win the other 4 players go down to 225 points and you go up to 350 (4x25). Players reaching zero are eliminated. Last man standing takes all the money. Safeties are not allowed. get the idea?

They are talking about an English Pool event which is being screened by Sky in another venue and which clashes with the time of our special event.

yeah i get the idea,so the special event is this game then.
ill just enter the main comp and come and watch this qualifier as im new to the game and this sounds more for the experienced players.
was under the impression it was a striaght knockout, obviously because i didnt know what a ring game was, maybe next time.
iknow the qualifier is SKO but the main comp is what you explained right.

The main comp is what I explained but why would you not play in the qualifier just because main (special) event is ring game? IMO you have just as good a chance of victory in a ring game and it will be great to be a part of in front of the cameras and spectators. Much better format all round if you ask me. Get yourself in the qualifier pal!

riggers ive never seen a ring game played , but i get the concept...
one thing thats confused me is the rule "Safeties are not allowed. get the idea?"
how do you tell if someone plays a safety? and what happens if someone "does" play a safety....
im not trying to be contrary, but id like to know the rules........cheers

It is left up to the TD's discretion really as to whether they think the shot was or was not a safety, you are not allowed to deliberately play a safety, but you can get away with playing questionable two way shots :)

ok thanks for that, but what happens if the TD DECIDES YOU INTENTIONALLY PLAYED SAFE? HOW ARE YOU PENALISED?

All the rules have been printed now and will be displayed in the club on Saturday. This includes procedures for deliberate safety, fouls, call shot etc.

Not a lottery at all. When you turn comes around and you get a chance you have to grab it with both hands and there will be pressure on every ball. Then you need to take maximum advantage by following it up with a break and run or two. I think you'd enjoy it Eric.
