Haha.... Ok, I don't want to be accused of hijacking the thread so better get back on topic A couple more thankyous appropriate.... George and his staff, yet again proving they are the best! I know they worked their socks off this weekend and they take great pride in their club. Despite the hard work I know they really look forward to these events and enjoyed it almost as much as we did. Ste Williams from 8n9.com billiard clothing for donating some great shirts as prizes. They just look fantastic. BigDave... What can you say about his committment to our sport? He took the mammoth train journey from Portsmouth to Barnsley arriving Saturday evening in time for the spceial event. He had to stay in the very last hotel room in Barnsley (a dodgy sounding place going by the name of Aunt Betty's in a dodgy area of town, though BigD said it was actually Ok). he covered the special event and the side events then he took some great photo's for us Sunday morning before the main event got underway before making his way down to Solihull on the train to report on the Universities tournament. He eventually arrive home in the early hours of the morning probably in need of some rest but first thing this morning the reports, photos and results are posted for all to see. We just can't thank you enough Dave. I don't think it's going to far by saying we probably wouldn't have a serious american cue sport in this country if it weren't for you. Well done Imran on both your wins! A fantastic event well run by Shirley and Riggers, the format was perfect and everyone got great value. The club was very nice, tables played great and the staff were very hard working and couldn't do enough for you.....well done Riley's. I think those who were present are just seeing what the future of the GB9BT will run like with both these in charge, absolutely 1st class.

9 hours of train and "rail replacement bus" journeys yesterday - I must be mad, although it was well worth it! Please remember that my ability to report events like this is all thanks to sponsorship from The Pro Shop - so keep buying your cues and pool supplies from us and we'll all end up as winners! ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor

I've just finished uploading nearly 100 photographs from this event to the PoolPhotos website, it's taken all day, but they are all free to view - so enjoy!

No problem Eric, glad you like it pal. See you later in week for a set or two with Dixon.
Glad you mentioned James Kay, not a lot said about him on here. He is a top bloke and a top player. Got plenty of time for the geezer.

Fair enough, my point was that it is an easier game to play than english 8 ball. If you take a random person who has never played either english 8 ball or 9 ball but tries his hand at both games, i bet he/she would say that 9 ball is easier. I know that there are certain aspects to the game which are difficult to learn i.e the break off shot, kicking & i ain't disputing that but the amount of luck that is involved in amateur level 9 ball is ridiculous. I ain't saying that i experienced bad luck at this event, the truth is i had both good & bad luck throughout my matches but some of the stuff that happens on a 9 ball table is unbelieveable. I just think that you don't get value for playing good shots as you would get at other cue sports. The game of 9 ball is probably difficult to achieve success in because there are so many good players that can win. I would like to say well done to Lee & Shir for running this event & i hope the GB9BT is a huge success for you guys. I will still enter american 8 ball events for obvious reasons & will only play 9 ball once i've had enough of English 8 ball. There's no point in entering a 9 ball event if you're not ready for it so in the future i will only play 9 ball if i've prepared properly & once i've fully got used to my 9 ball cue too. Arfan......is sticking to english 8 ball for the time being, ----------------- Regards

Just a post to say in my opinion what a success the barnsley 9 ball open was...
fees paid
draw done
approx match times
good atmosphere
excellent field
All of this before a ball was hit...
the key i think is when not playing in a match to be part of a well organised but light hearted set-up, and thats exactly what it was...
no doubt that the new tour will very closely mirror the weekends events...
congrats to lee and shirley for making it happen AGAIN..

What was clear from the start of the comp is Shir had total control over proceedings. Even when some groups fell behind because of long matches, Shir spotted this and immediately took action by starting another match from the same group on a different table. It happened every time. I don't know if anyone spotted that but its what made the group stages feel seamless. A different class of tournament director, well done, Shir. First of all I'd like to thank Rileys for sponsoring this tournament by giving up all their tables from Friday night till Sunday!!! George and his staff were fantastic as always!!!
Second, Big Dave and Pro9.. Glad Dave could come over and see the club for himself for once... And without pro9 this tournament wouldn't have been as successful as it has been...
Third, 8n9.com.... Wow... Thanks for sponsoring this tournament... Beautiful shirt and my TD shirt is the greatest one I've ever had! Ste you're doing a wonderful job with your company and I hope we'll do a lot more projects in the future!
Fourth. Thanks to everybody that supported this event by playing in it... Without you it wouldn't be possible. thank you for your patience.. thank you for letting me experiment with all kinds of different things..
this weekend was a good weekend for me.. had the chance to try some new things out... some things went very well, some things could have gone much better.. every tournament i learn something new...Just wait for the next one!!!
PS. Thanks babe! Without you I'd be nothing!
PS2. Thanks to Si and Stephen F. for helping with the ring game things.. And Pat for helping with the excel things....
