Hi guys just had something to say. These formats for group stages are fine but they dont seem to cater for the amount of people wanting to enter these events. The demand is alot higher than the supply. Thesedays there is always a reserve list of 15-20 players who dont get a chance to play in the events because of a first come first serve basis.
A solution to this problem could be to make the tournaments straight double elimination events this way could cater for alot more players. The amount of entrants at each event would increase therefore benefitting the clubs and also the prize money would increase substantially benefitting the players. Its a 'no brainer' if you ask me and everyone is happy.

To open the fields to more players you have to have more tables to go with it St Albans Hurricaane rooms has only 7 tables 32 players would be the max you could have for the time scale they want the tournament to finish. Yes it would be nice to have 60+ players but you would need a hall with 30+ tables to accommodate the large field for one day tournaments and there is not a pool hall in the UK with that amount of tables.

You've also got to consider up and coming players like myself. Realistically I have little chance of winning these comps or even finishing in the money, but I do need lots of match practice :)

A group stage givng between 4 and 6 matches is much more preferable to a single or double elim which would likely only give me between 2 and 4 matches.

Although, as I improve, I might change my mind... :)

Just to touch on Imrans comments again i know exactly what he is saying but another perspective to put it in would be mine,my total travel for this event is over 500 miles and i would not want to travel that far for a double elimination event,i would much rather play 4 matches and win nothing then play two or three matches and win some money as i just really want to get tournament play happening for me on a regular basis which events like this one and alot of the others allow you to do.
The format for this event in particlar in my opinion based on the table numbers is the correct one

I agree with mummygoose....I myself am a converted snooker player.....played 9 ball seriously for about a year and a bit.....my first event was at wycombe last month..Although I can perform well in practice n I performed ok not great on the day....My minimal exp at matchplay and tactics in this dicepline was exposed on the day, bigtime.....against some very talented players....the only solution is to gain as much table time as poss....in match situations where shot selections must be made be it positional play or tactical choices...that can only be gained through trial n error. through playing as many matches against good 9 ball players....so for novice players like myself more matches would benefit me much better then double elim...I totally get what Imran is getting at though..but this is my personal take on the situation from the other end of the scale.

Hi Gareth, Myself, Oz and Pete will pay within the next few days to confirm our entrance...once again sorry I couldnt settle up at Mickeys!!

Looking forward to this event, lets hope we all dont jinx your roof as well!!

This is just a thought but due to the amount of tables (8) would it be an idea to start the matches a bit earlier for those who have arrived maybe at 9.30-10.00 as this would improve on the finish times and then the plate would be starting at a good time (maybe this would encourage more people to hang around in the club after the group stages) :)

Sounds like a good idea to me Phil, lets do that.

Matches to start at anytime from 9:30, get there as early as possible please. Be there by 11:00 at the latest or start losing racks! 1 every 10 minutes?

Any thoughts?

Thanks Ossie, I've received payment.

You haven't covered charges though, only 96% paid so you are either going to have to chop a hand or foot off or just play with a jump cue. :)

Please anyone paying by PayPal add £1.50 per entry if there are going to be charges.

Thanks,

Gareth
