I think the most significant factor for pool is fans! That's what will make our sport take the leap into a more profitable venture for all of us. People actually WANTING to watch pool - as much as possible. When that happens TV will come along and then tournaments and players can sell advertising in return for sponsorship, and the game's top player's will be able to make a decent living. To encourage this we need to make the games as exciting as possible and develop the players into interesting personalities, "stars" if you like, so that they become a fascination for audiences. I'm not saying that if we get fans it'll be a guaranteed gravy train, even snooker with it's established players is having a tough time at the moment, but it would be a lot better than we have it now. I don't think we necessarily need millions of people paying the game to make it big... English Pool has that, and it hasn't really got that game far. Will pool getting into the Olympics buy us fans? So true dave - But if you look at the Mosconi cup event. Other than those its hard to see the excitement that comes from watching pool. Even boxing is struggling at the minute due to the excitement of no-rules cage fights. There is even talk of a 8 man boxing comp. 3 rounds. The first 4 winners go into the semis and then the final and it's all on the same night!! We need a few more Earl Stricklands and Alex Higgins types in the game or some big rivals. Maybe Peach and Appleton in the battle of the fruits?
