wow that was a long day  to say the least

many thnx to all the players that turned up again at one of our events and i really like to say sorry to all the players, im not sure y the group matches were best of 11

also a few issues did arise from yesterdays tournament which we at mickeys will have to look closely at the format

if im being honest i dont think we can continue to carry on with the group stages, this is a shame coz it does represent good playing time in return for the entry fee, however we will do our best to come up with something new which is a bit fairer on all players and will still give you value for your money

the good news is that as the gb9 mansfield was moved this created a gap in the calendar and so we have taken this opportunity to add another 10-ball event, this will take place sunday 19th october(details will appear here soon)

if anyone has any views they would be more than welcome and we hope that you will keep supporting our events in the future, in 2009 we plan to have a 10-ball series with added money and also looking to stage a 10-ball grand masters

indiana..........three tons, two 80 breaks on the bounce and im outta here

well what happened at previous event really sucked richard players throwing matches ,thats why i not like group stages ...

if it was me i would simply do double elim to the last 16 or last 8..

say race to 8 winners side and race to 6 losers ... then race to 9s single elim rounds...

Indiana and the staff at Mickeys always run a great event, it's just a shame some people have to spoil it by cheating and they should have a serious look at themselves. With a format change I'm sure these 10 ball events will go from strength to strength.

Well done for the win Indy.

I was speaking to Ricardo after the event on Sunday and different possibilities for running tournaments was a lot of the discussion over a drink!

The problem at the weekend (and Rich will admit it) is that the group matches were too long, the other problem with group matches is throwing matches or manipulating results - especially amongst friends.

The Mickey Flynn's tournaments are always good but I think numbers will decrease if the format remains the same.

It is difficult to keep everyone happy and groups do offer value for money for all players involved but over one day it can be too time consuming. One solution may be to opt for a straight KO system but with matches played as best of 3 sets (say race to 5). This still offers value and also a solution to the timing issues.

A plate tournament could always be run for 1st round losses as well.

Shame, I mainly go to these events because of the group stages and all the racks i get. Its really helping me improve the amount of racks i get beat by!

Can't it just stay groups best of 9 racks, i think we all know who gives racks away as it was so obvious. Then drop them from the event if it happens again.

Well i got dumped out of the groups for what cant be denied as it its all on camera!

i wont spend my time and effort on travelling a few hundred miles just for the comp to be manipulated!.

i feel sorry for ricardo and the staff and venue as this was a great day out minus the "issue".

i'd like to just ask this though?

for you boys - and you know who you are is it really worth it? if you need a couple or three hundred quid to help u out why not challlenge someone? instead of wasting others time and petrol money? or aint you got it for the hard fast cash money action?

not me but i'm darn sure i could back a few!

Just my thoughts.

It's pretty obvious the game we are referring to.
Like the pendulum slightly to swing towards the other direction.

Yes,we are mates. Both knew what was at stake.
My target was to reach 5 racks-big task against a strong player.
But what does one do if my opponents decision is to concede racks whilst 2/3/4 balls are still on the table.I'm not going to decline that offer nor would any player.

Yes,I admit did not look good. Not nice especially when my opponent is a much better player than me and the scoreline did not reflect that.
This was not planned,to be honest no disappointment if i did not go through.I seem to play well in the plate comps these days.

Tone,Really I do know how you feel mate. Its happened to me at same venue and a few others as no doubt few players aswel
But unfortunately its going to keep happening with this format when friends are within the groups.

Any consolation we both agreed to play first match-would this altered the result-who knows. All tables were issued with play order sheet which we abided to.

Rich
Sorry this happened at your venue.Mickeys will always be one of my favourites venues with friendly staff and value for money.

Regardless of group stages,single/doub elim, you can still count me in.

this is why i will change the format, there will be no group stages anymore, i am jst working on a new one which will hopefully give u players value for money

its a shame these players cant enjoy a decent game of pool but rest assured these players wont be entering my events again

i have added another tournament to our calendar and this will take place sunday 19th october and details will apear here early next week

have a nice weekend
