I Just thought maybe in the spirit of the game and all that, the opponent might let it go. It wasn't far away though! I taped it. [ This message was edited by: PaulPool on 2007-12-18 12:47 ]

i dont know if the ref would have called it a foul though because everybody does it and the ball clearly wasn't going into a pocket as it didn't have the speed. If Gomez would have complained about it then maybe it would get looked into

agree on earl i love watching him play!! its even better when watch him play in america away from tv cameras because he gets away with more have seen him proper kick off and none stop talk! when was in vegas last may for bca i made sure i got front row seats whenever he played have never had so much fun watching pool! agree now and then he takes it slightly over top but thats his charactor u got to be strong enough to deal with it! away from table i find him very easy to get on with and back in his day when at his best one of the greatest players ever lived! but i say again biggest thing i dislike about american pool is the sharking, cheating and the majority of players will try anything to win! mentally ive at to adjust my view on it all and accept it orelse u will go insane or do something stupid it does make u stronger mentally ! my first few visits to states and first time in philippines i was close to getting invloved in a few scrapes and found it hard to deal with ,but have learnt to deal with it and accept it much better ! but hey we all make mistakes sometimes! indeed we do Darren, and i do agree that the state of American pool comared to English pool is bad. I mean, i have mostly been playing american pool but have some english pool experiance. I find that, even if i play a player that sharks all day long on an American table, will shut up and get on with it when playing English, its really strange, as if people dont respect American pool as much.

American Pool is still relatively new in the UK, compared to English Pool, Snooker And Billiards, which have been around in the UK for a great deal longer, And so it's natural that the respect level hasn't quite picked up yet, but the need for professionalism and sportsmanship is starting to really set in and this will be good for the sport It will take a little more time before American Pool will gain the same kind of spectator-player and/or opponent-player respect on the table, but alot of players are quite respectful and professional at the table anyways, and there are only a handful that shark in any way and so, I think that it's up to tour directors and organizers to make a stand on it. I'm often dissapointed by the level of sharking that goes on at 9-ball. Not sure if it's simply because it's a quicker / easier game than say snooker or Uk 8ball. You are likely to get less chances or in deed any chances in a single game of 9-ball. So if you can't get on the table to play a shot you shark your oppenent to get off the table?
Having said that It doesn't explain why the Americans do more sharking than the Europeans as Daz points out...

I have watched the coverage of the incident, and it doesnt show a quarter of what abuse Earl was hurling at me and the people around me!! .....at the end of the day, it still doesnt make what i did right, the same way it doesnt with Earl. Main thing is Europe 11, USA 8.....and the key factor to the success was that we all agreed that we either win as a team or lose as a team.......no one will be better than anyone else in the team.......thats why we won. Welcome Back Dazzler First, I say a wholehearted congrats to you and the rest of the Euopean team on the victory on Sunday Second, you may remember the amount of complaining and whining that Earl was doing at the players meeting that Pete Williams held before the APN Invitational event started, all because Pete felt it best to have the 1ball racked on the spot... and Earl was bad then for complaining, etc, but he's undoubtedly gotten much worse since then and so, I (and many others) already have a good idea of how bad he can be, but that's how Earl is. From day 2, it definitely showed that you guys were playing together as a team, and in a team event, the only way to win is to play as a team, which is exactly why you guys brought home the bacon and the trophy Congrats once again Willie

Well said Daryl, that statement on its own makes you as much of a gentleman as Ralf Souquet, who for me is one of the elder statesmen of pool. I am glad that you reflected on the incident, everyone knows what Earl is and in my opinion, his behaviour is unforgiveable, it is about time that a referee had the courage to disqualify him for unsportsmanlike conduct.

In the heat of pressure and battle and with the will to win lots of us do things we later regret. I do it regularly - with me it's temper tantrums rather than deliberate gamesmanship - but it's still not pretty and it's not right. Slowly but surely I'm managing to cut it out of my game but it's not easy. I honestly think Earl has problems and don't really see what he does as deliberate gamesmanship - just these horrible demons he has when he steps into a pool arena and things don't go his way. What he does is just so over the top it doesn't look like it's carefully calculated to be a deliberate attempt to unsettle his opponent. Instead it looks like he's just gone a bit loopy You just cannot condone Earl's actions but equally I thought Daryl could have reacted better and it's great to see him admit this publicly - somehow I doubt Earl would do the same. So good on you Dazzler for that. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-12-20 09:14 ]
