It is very clear he called the 2, and knew he had the way he bashed his cue.

Is this a clash of cultures thing though?
For instance... The Americans don't seem to mind if you move the balls when on a shot, as long as your opponent moves them back - they seem a lot more laid back stuff like that - unlike the Europeans who demand a foul if your shirt sleeve even touches a ball.
He obviously meant the 10-Ball but the wrong word slipped out.
Apparently though, according to Jayson, Earl was sharking Jayson the whole match - whether that means he was just being Earl and talking to himself and the audience, or deliberately trying tio unsettle Jayson, only he knows, but I guess that's why he pushed for the foul.
I guess rules are rules though, and he should have been given the decision.

The 2 ball was buried in a five ball cluster so its highly likely that Earl just called the wrong ball. His actions later on, when Jayson went to shake his hand and Earl left him hanging for some time, was out of order. The conclusion of this match was flawed in so many ways. Why have a ref for the World Championship if they aren't going to enforce a call shot ruling? If Earl calls the wrong ball he should be penalised. If one of our snooker pros call blue and pot the yellow then its a foul. Jayson conceded with Earl still needing a dozen-ish points. Ive read a fair bit about this on AZBilliards. Earl didnt even stay in the playing arena during Jayson's innings and seemed to be unsettling Jayson, or at least trying to, the entire match. Well done Mika Immonen for winning the event.

I think if you look at it from both sides neither of the players acted particularly well - but in the circumstances it's always tough to do the right thing. The question is, did the referee/organisers make the right decision or not? [ This message was edited by: ct on 2016-09-13 03:05 ]

I immediately thought Earl was in the wrong for not shaking Jayson's hand but on reflection Jayson was (I think) conceding the match which could, I guess, be why Earl didn't shake it; he didn't want Jayson to concede. Whilst he clearly called the wrong ball it appeared to be a genuine mistake. Doesn't excuse Earl's sharking though.
