Topic: Rest in peace, Grady Mathews

It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of "The Professor" Grady Mathews.

I was lucky enough to meet Grady in Cardiff one year and he showed us all some stupendous One-Pocket shots that went over everyone's head because most hadn't heard of 1-P and they just thought Grady was missing and leaving the ball set up for his opponent over the opposite pocket... Of course, in 1-P the exact opposite was the case and it was a great safety shot to remove the ball from the jaws of your opponent's pocket and leave it hanging over yours, but hardly anyone realised, and it was left to Fabio Petroni to explain to everyone quite what a miraculous shot it was - I still don't think they got it, but I always remember Grady's exact words to the audience that had gathered, just one of those strange things that make an impression on your mind and stay with you always, he said, "I submit to you, that is a great shot". Even if you didn't know Grady, I think you can get a clear impression, just from those 9 little words, what a great gentleman he was. Bless.
