Here we are at the GB9BallTour Midlands Classic in Telford, and selling tickets for the 10-Ball Break and Dish compeition. The pot current stands at an enormous £775, making each ball worth a whopping £75.50!!! Three lucky tickets will be drawn at 7pm today, and each player will have a chance to win 10% of the total prize money for each ball potted. Woohooo! Well, this is great! There's nothing in it for me, except the chance of a job well done, and a bit of interest in the seemingly ever increasing prize fund, but this is pretty darn good even if I say so myself...

The draw is done, and our three winners, in order, are... Kevin Simpson Anthony Illingworth Phil Burford First to have a crack at earning £98.20 per ball will be Kev, then Anthony will have a chance at 10% of what remains, and then Phil gets the third chance to clean up if anything is left.

Well.... They don't make 'em more exciting than that... Kev Simpson broke dry and I'm thinking I'll get lynched if I rack three dry breaks... But in retrospect, he got the best and tightest rack of the three players. Anthony Illingworth managed to sink a pair of balls - a lovely prospect at £98.20 per ball, but then the cueball took a knock into the side pocket, ending his hopes of any reward. Finally Phil Burford came to the table... He refused the first hand-racked SET-UP, BUT AGREED TO ACCEPT THE SECOND OF THREE POTENTIAL RACKS. (Oooops, caps). A confident break was rewarded with another pair of balls down. and clearly Phil is set for a long run here... None of the balls are tied up, and the next ball is a straight in mid-length shot into the corner... After a long consideration, Phil started his run... The two, three and four ball all sank in fairly rapid succession although he never really looked in ideal shape on the next ball, and after taking on an ever so slightly dicey 7 ball, he ended long, and blind, on a perfectly makeable but less than ideal 8 ball cut shot. Only three balls left for a perfect £982 run-out, and in the perfect 20/20 vision of hindsight, many agreed that the eight was a ball too far, and if they were in Phil's place they would have taken the £687.40... But this is Phil Burford, a top quality player and no one expected hi to miss it... But he did! Everyone in the venue heard the shrieks of surprises and groans of disappointment as he 8-ball hit the back rail and hardly threatened the pocket. Looking on the bright side, that means the whole lot rolls over onto the next event in Telford, and the pot could swell quite considerably if the enthusiasm of this event is repeated!
