If you just enter the single event then you would be in tier 1. If you signup for next season and pay your £50 deposit as well as your entry fee for this event you'll start at the bottom of the rankings and be in tier 2 - unless the GB9 committee decide you are of a standard to be forced into tier 1, if you let me know your full name I can ask the question.

CALCUTTA AUCTION Please note that this event will feature a Calcutta type player auction for the very first time. The auction will take place in the main playing arena on completion of the double elimination stage of the main event. Once the auction has been completed the last 16 draw will take place LIVE. If you don’t know what a Calcutta auction is, here is a brief explanation: “The Calcutta can be an exciting way for spectators and players to get in on the action at a pool tournament. It can be a great way to increase drama, viewership of the final few matches, and to increase the prize monies paid out on the day. Many people enjoy using their knowledge of how each player competes to get a leg up on other bidders. A Calcutta is a “Player Auction” which occurs before the tournament begins. Money collected in the bidding is paid out to the owner of the player(s) they bought before the tournament began. At this event GB9 will pay out the top 4 spots with the cash in the bidding pot being split up as follows: 1st place 40%, 2nd place 30%, 3rd place 15%. Sometimes players feeling confident will purchase themselves in the Calcutta so they have a chance to win a nice side pot if they finish high enough in the tournament. Most often, it is a spectator or other player that buys someone in the Calcutta. Many times, some friends will form a small “syndicate” and pool their money to buy several players so they have a few chances to get one of their players into the Calcutta money pay-out. The player ALWAYS has the option to seek out their “Owner” and purchase half of themselves back. The winning bidder must accept half their bid in cash from the player and then each party owns half and are each entitled to half the Calcutta prize money if the player finishes in a pay-out slot.” The format of the GB9 Calcutta auction will be as follows: 1. All of the 16 players will be displayed in ranking order based on their performance in the double elimination stage. 2. The first lot will be for a 1st Wildcard pick. The successful bidder gets to choose any player. 3. The second lot will be for a 2nd Wildcard pick. The successful bidder gets to choose any of the remaining 15 players. 4. The remaining 14 players will be auctioned off in ranking order (highest to lowest). 5. Any players failing to receive any bids will be placed in a separate lot called ‘Rest of the Field’. This lot will be auctioned off last. Players in this lot DO NOT have the option to purchase half of themselves. 6. At completion of the tournament pay-outs will be made to the successful bidders as follows: 1st place 40%, 2nd place 30%, 3rd place 15%. All participants should note the following rules/conditions: 1. All winning bidders need to pay the auctioneer in cash as soon as the auction finishes and before start of play. 2. All players have the option to purchase half of themselves. Players wishing to do so should seek out the winning bidder (GB9 will not be involved in the administration of these arrangements). 3. Players are welcome to bid on themselves but NOT on other players in the auction. 4. If a group of friends are forming a syndicate you should appoint a spokesperson to act as a sole bidder in the auction. 5. All bets are void if the highest bid in the auction is higher than 40% of the total pot size. ----------------- Andy Warden, GB9 - Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor √ [ This message was edited by: cueman on 2014-10-30 16:18 ]

people need to support this for it to work and if it does it will be great.
Andy - is there anyway to bid remotely? i.e not from the venue? Might increase online viewers. Difficult I suppose as money needs to be collected.
5. All bets are void of the highest bid in the auction is lower than 40% of the total pot size. - What is the purpose of this rule? I think I am being daft but thought id ask.

Hi Panther, The only way to bid remotely would be to ask someone at venue to bid /pay on your behalf and stay on the phone to them? The owner of the winner of the event get's back 40% so if the highest bid is higher than this then even if that player won he/she would get back less than they paid. Unlikely but as we have never tried this before we thought it better to include this rule to give us the option of cancelling if it doesn't get the support. I think/hope that everyone will get behind it and should add a real spice to the latter stages of the event. ----------------- Andy Warden, GB9 - Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor √ [ This message was edited by: cueman on 2014-10-30 16:19 ]

Yeah that would work.
Should it read higher than instead of lower than?

Due to unprecedented demand the Pro division for next weekends' British Grand Prix will be increased from 16 players to 20 with the extra income being used to boost both the Main and Pro event prize money http://bit.ly/104i4NE
