16-year-old Zielinski snatches the title in Treviso

The winner of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open 2017 is 16-year-old Wiktor Zielinski (POL). In the final match, he outclassed his opponent Mario He (AUT) 9:1.

The final event of the 2017 Euro-Tour series has a sensational winner. He is probably the youngest and also fastest player to ever win a Euro-Tour event. So far, Zielinski’s best achievement in the Euro-Tour was a 5th place finish in Albufeira, Portugal, earlier this year. Here in Treviso, Zielinski started his quest with a 9:5 victory over his teammate Piotr Ostrowski (POL). His next victim was Gentjan Gega (ALB) 9:6. Then, he was defeated by Stefan Huber (AUT) 6:9 and sent to the loser’s side. Zielinski finished Jakub Koniar (SVK) 9:5 to get to the single elimination stage. In the round of the last 32 players, Zielinski wiped the floor with Abdulrahman Alammar (KSA) 9:1. Then, he outplayed local hero Daniele Corrieri (ITA) who had also played a strong tournament until then. In the quarter-final, Zielinski eliminated former World Champion Daryl Peach (GBR) 9:5. Said Peach on Facebook: „I lost 9:5 to Wiktor Zielinski from Poland in the quarterfinal so that’s a 5th place finish for me. He played excellent and I didn’t see a shot until 5:0 down, I battled back but it was a lot to ask. Watch out for this kid, he is 16 years old and an unreal talent in the game…. yeah another up and coming star from European pool.“ Peach was dead right with this estimation. In the semi-final, Zielinski took down Denis Grabe (EST) 9:2, winning nine consecutive racks against the Estonian. Then he got to the final match against Mario He.

The Austrian also played pretty strong so far and he had an impressive list of opponents who he had taken down here in Treviso this time. Maksim Dudanets (RUS), Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz, Niels Feijen (NED) and Eklent Kaci (ALB) were all ousted by He. The expectations for the final match were a bit in favour of Mario He since he was the more experienced player by far. So far, he has achieved one victory, one runner-up and 4 third places on the Euro-Tour. Today, the final match was a one man show by Zielinski only. He demolished Mario He 9:1 in a final match that only lasted 23 minutes !! Probably that was the fastest final in the history of the Euro-Tour. „I practiced very hard for this“, stated Zielinski after the match, „ and I’m so happy now that it is hard for me to express my happiness in words“, he added. This victory is for the record book in two aspects: the youngest winner and the fastest final match ever.

Lechner shocks Alcaide and eliminates him from the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open

Maximilian Lechner (AUT) shocked the current #1 player of the Euro-Tour, David Alcaide (ESP) today. He eliminated him in the round of the last 32 players of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open with a 9:6 victory.

Lechner was more or less the underdog in this match. He came to the table with a lot of confidence. Already yesterday, he had lost his opening with 6:9 to Aleksa Pecelj (SRB). So he had to take the longest of all ways through the loser’s side. But he managed to book himself a seat in the single elimination round against Alcaide with victories over Michal Turkowski (POL) 9:1, Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) 9:7, Konrad Juszczyszyn (POL) 9:3 and a thriller over Oliver Ortmann (GER) with 9:8. Having cleared all these heavyweights from the event, Lechner was ready for another attack. His opponent Alcaide took the „soft route“ to this match with victories over George Antonakis (GRE) 9:6, Stanimir Ruslan (BUL) 9:7 and Sergey Lutsker (RUS) 9:6 in the winner’s qualification round. Two different worlds collided in that match. The #1 ranked player who easily made it to the match against the hard working underdog. However, Lechner was on a mission in this match. It appeared that the Austrian was on fire against his high profile opponent. He quickly took a 4:1 lead over Alcaide which made the Spaniard take his time-out at such an early stage in the match. When he came back, things seemed to coma back to „normal“. Alcaide won the next two racks and the score was suddenly 4:3 for Lechner only. At that time, Lechner took his time-out. He came back to the table and had an unbelievable run in the match. He played rock solid and took four racks in a row to get on the hill with 8:3 over Alcaide. The #1 knew that this match was now a „do-or-die“ for him. And he accepted the challenge. He pulled back a few racks to get to 6:8. But then Lechner ended his dreams for another Euro-Tour victory in 2017 and won the rack and the match 9:6 over Alcaide. In the next round, the encounter of the last 16 players, Lechner will again be the underdog, playing against his famous teammate Albin Ouschan (AUT) who won his single elimination match 9:4 over surprise player Stefan Huber (AUT).

Other remarkable results from today include „The Terminator“ Niels Feijen (NED) winning his matches against Nick Ekonomopoulos (GRE) 9:4 and Mieszko Fortunski (POL) 9:3. Feijen, who just recently recovered from a serious elbow injury, came back as strong as usual and will play Wojciech Sroczynski (POL) in the next round. Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) is also still alive in the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open. Today, two „dutchies“ were his victims of the day. First, he overcame Ivo Aarts (NED) 9:8, then he got the better of Marc Bijsterbosch (NED) with 9:4. Sanchez-Ruiz will face Mario He (AUT) in his next match tomorrow morning.

Since now the top two players of the Euro-Tour rankings, David Alcaide and Ralf Souquet (GER) are out of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open, Feijen, Ouschan and Sanchez might get a chance to reach a pretty high position in the rankings at the year’s end.

Tomorrow, the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open will continue at 10:00 CET with matches from the last 16 players single elimination. The final match is scheduled for 18:00 CET.

Unheralded Alammar squeaks past Sniegocki

A totally unheralded player, Abdulrahman Alammar (KSA) squeaked past #17 ranked player Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) with 9:8 after a tremendous comeback. It was not the first opponent from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today for Sniegocki. In his first match he already met Hassan Alqahtani who also made the long trip from the middle eastern country to come to Italy and challenge the European pool elite. In that match, Sniegocki was already warned since he had a 5:2 lead over Alqahtani and just made it over the finish line, taking the match by a whisker with 9:8. Then he met Alammar, Alqahtani’s teammate. One more time, Sniegocki looked like the sure winner, leading 6:2 after eight racks. But Alammar demonstrated high class pool and really surprised the audience on site and at the computer screens since the match was streamed live on facebook as well. Alammar pulled back rack after rack from Sniegocki and made the match exciting again. He even managed to get on the hill first, taking an 8:7 lead over the Polish. Then, Sniegocki levelled that at 8:8 with a combination shot 5-9 into the corner pocket. Now the pressure was on for both opponents with Alammar’s break shot coming up. He broke the rack and had two balls down but no shot on the 2-ball which was the ball on. A safety exchange followed with Alammar committing a foul shot giving ball in hand to Sniegocki. The layout on the table was everything else but easy with the 3-ball behind hidden behind the 4-ball. Sniegocki tried to play a weird position for the 3-ball and failed. All he could do then was leaving a tough shot for Alammar. The player from Saudi Arabia executed a brilliant safety shot on the 3-ball, opening the problem and hiding the cue ball frozen behind the 8-ball on the other end of the table. Sniegocki attempted a bank shot on the 3-ball but completely missed it. With ball in hand, Alammar went on and ran the rack, winning the match 9:8 after a furious comeback. He will now face Tim De Ruyter (NED) who defeated Sebastian Staab (GER) 9:3, in the winner’s qualification round while Sniegocki needs to take the detour over the loser’s side.

Other remarkable results from today include local hero Daniele Corrieri (ITA) taking the cake 9:8 against former World 9-Ball Champion Daryl Peach (GBR) in the same round. Also in winner’s round 2, Stefan Huber (AUT) totally unexpected smashed Alexander Kazakis (GRE) 9:0! What a bitter doughnut for Kazakis that was! Huber’s fellow countryman Albin Ouschan (AUT) brought his match home in winner’s round, winning 9:8 over Cyriel Ledoux (NED). The Dutch was really unlucky here since he had the break in rack 17. However, he came up dry with no balls down, leaving a shot on the 1-ball for Ouschan. With all his coolness and experience, the Austrian powerhouse cleared the table and took the match even under the highest pressure possible.

Tomorrow, the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open will continue at 09:00 CET with matches from loser’s round 2. The last 32 players single elimination matches will begin at 21:00 CET.

Every day, one match from the events will be shown LIVE on the Facebook page of the EPBF for free. Treviso hosts the final Euro-Tour of the 2017 season

Tomorrow, the final event of the 2017 Euro-Tour series will kick off. The BHR Treviso Hotel will once again be the host for another event, the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open.

142 players from as many as 32 countries will definitely put up high class fights in order to find out who will be the last man standing on Saturday night. Most European top players are on site including rising star Eklent Kaci (ALB), finalist of the recent US Open and winner of the final event of the World Pool Series in New York City, NY, USA. Him and many others will be playing on 16 tables in the BHR Hotel which are located in two rooms, eight tables in each. Of course, all 16 tables are streamed live on the Kozoom website. Other players who are currently on fire include but are not limited to Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP), Konrad Juszczyszyn (POL) and Fedor Gorst (RUS), just to name a few. It will be incredibly exciting to witness how Kaci will do in Treviso, having finished 2nd and 1st in his last two major events he played. Will he be able to „three-peat“ it or will some other elite players target him and even prevent him from making it into the single elimination round?

The situation in the Euro-Tour rankings is also quite thrilling. David Alcaide (ESP), winner of last year’s Dynamic Billard Treviso Open, is leading the rankings as the current #1 player. However, within 200 points are Ralf Souquet (GER), Niels Feijen (NED), Albin Ouschan (AUT), Nick van den Berg (NED) and Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) who are all here except van den Berg. The victory of the season is surely not yet set in stone for Alcaide.

The Dynamic Billard Treviso Open will start on Thursday morning at 09:00 CET with round one matches. The group stages will last until Friday night at 21:00 CET when the event will turn into single elimination mode with the last 32 players remaining. The final of the event is scheduled for Saturday, November 18th, at 18:00 CET.

Probably the player with the longest trip to Treviso, Italy, is Masato Hiraoka who flew in all the way from Japan to participate in the last Euro-Tour event of the 2017 season. The country with the most players present except the host nation is Poland. While the hosts, Italy, have 18 starters, Poland sent 17 athletes to Treviso to try and snatch the coveted title and the prize money, of course.

Every day, one match from the events will be shown LIVE on the Facebook page of the EPBF for free. All Facebook users may check out the high standard of quality which is provided for all the events and see what the Kozoom members receive all the time.
