Total9Ball England Trials

The T9B England trials took place yesterday at the Hurricane Room, St Albans. 28 players in total competed for the remaining 4 places in the England A team and 6 places in the England B team. The format was simple, double elimination races to 9 in both sides of the draw with no handicaps. The double elimination format was played down to 4 players winner side and 4 players losers side and at this point there would be a random draw of winners against losers. The winners of these playoff matches would represent England A alongside Courtney Symons and Mark Lunn at the Home Nations Championship held at St Albans at the end of the March 2014. The 4 losing players would be automatically selected for the England B team with the four players beaten in the previous round playing off for the final B team two spaces... did I say simple?

We are very lucky at Total9ball to have new players regularly entering our events and it was the same this weekend as we welcomed six new players who were previously unknown to the tour. There feedback was very positive about the way the event was run and club used so we hope to see them all back at future events with the extra added benefits of handicaps.

The first round draw was completed by Steve Davison and matches began at about 10.30am.

It didn't take long for the results to come flying in and it appeared a certain Mark Hughes was flying as he recorded a 9v0 victory (a good achievement in an alternate break format). Mark then ran into a man on fire at the moment Dave Evans. Dave recently reached the final of his first ever GB9 event and he looked like his form was continuing as he advanced 9v4 over Hughes, Jaspal Bamotra defeated keen and improving Stuart Bond 9v5. Talented Ant Illingworth started the event well winning 9v2 against Paul McMichael. Chris Bryant was producing some magic again as he pushed Grant Francis to the losers side of the draw 9v2. It was great to see Del Sim back in competitive action as he put on a quality display to despatch Andy Stock 9v3. What wasn’t so great about Del's return was bearing in mind I gave him a lift to the event and also brought him a beer mid-match he still found it appropriate to freeze me off the table in the second round with an all round solid display beating me 9v4. Richard Twomey showed class as, in the end he battled through against much improved Chris Bryant 9v5. Billy Brown held his nerve in a hill-hill decider against his good friend Jaspal Bamotra. While "Mr Consistent" Mark Parker looked in tip top form again beating Ant Illingworth 9v5.

The atmosphere within the club was fantastic with all players desperate for the opportunity to represent England and wear the three lions with pride. The loser's side of the draw began at this stage of the event and Mark Hughes was at it again recording a second 9v0 victory of the day. There were so many matches played over the day so now we will advance to the qualifying matches the results are below with the winners invited to the England A team.

Del Sim 8v9 Jaspal Bamotra
Mark Parker 1v7 Phil Wildman
Richard Twomey 7v9 Tom Staveley
Tony Burton 9v5 Aslam Abubaker

The B team playoff match results were as follows...

Chris Bryant 9v7 Terry Challenger
Billy Brown 9v7 Dave Evans

Qualified for Amateur Nations Championship, 28/29/30 March 2014

At the Amateur Nations Championship held at St Albans on the 28th, 29th and 30th March there will be three events, Team, Scotch Doubles and Singles. I personally can't wait for the event and with the event structured so well I'm sure this will become a yearly event with more nations being added each time.

Thanks to all the players who attended the qualifiers. Your support is key to T9B's success. Thanks also to Mark Parker who took some great photos for all the players in between his matches. Nicole Hansen again made sure the event was well organised and kept matches turning over as quickly as possible. Well done to all players who qualified.

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure you are part of our next event, again held at St Albans on the 22nd March it's Amateur Series Event 4, the break dish and jackpot prizes have now increased to large amounts so make sure you don’t miss your chance to bah the swag. Enter now using the forum available on Pro9.

I'm always looking at new exciting formats and soon we will release details of our new scratch events. Coming soon - watch this space.
