Second Irish Title in a row for Tyrone Junior Pool Player

Ben Mc Moran (Tyrone) was crowned champion once again this past weekend when he defeated another top Tyrone junior player in the final of the 2006 Belfast Junior Open 9-Ball Tournament played on Ireland’s American 8 & 9 Ball Pool Tour.

In the final the young Tyrone cueist, who hails from Fintona, defeated the much more experienced 17 year old Loughran from Omagh.

Loughran, who went into the final in tremendous form, coming from both the snooker and 9-ball pool disciplines, making it through to two major semi-finals in both the Limited and Under-18 snooker tournaments categories during the week in the Omagh District Snooker League.

Not only making to these semi-finals Paul also defeated Ben in the tournaments round robin group matches 3-1 early on to top his group with three wins out of three. This didn’t stop Ben the current Irish junior ranked number one in the final when he raced into a 4-0 lead playing some fantastic pool in doing so.


The youngest member in the Belfast Junior 9-Ball Open was Carl Martin
who is only in P6 and has his own table at home (great young prospect).


Paul settled down and showed some of his experience to bring the match back to 4-3 before Ben took out another super finish in the next game to get over the line on a 5-3 score-line to claim his second major junior ranking tournament victory in the matter of a Month.

This second tournament victory for Ben extends his position at the top of the table as Ireland’s official ranked number one junior player on Ireland’s American 8 & 9 Ball Pool Tours official rankings putting him on 160 points.

Both Paul and Ben defeated the Quinn brothers Gareth and Steven in the semi-final by the same score of 3-1 who also are great prospects for the game of 9-ball in years to come.

The next official junior 9-ball ranking tournament takes place on Saturday 22nd April when the Irish Junior 9-Ball Open will take centre stage played in Enniskillen snooker and pool club starting at 11-am with double ranking points on offer.
