9-ball titles awarded at the final day of the European Championships
The last day of the Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 saw the finals in the 9-ball individuals in all four divisions. The titles were grabbed by Fedor Gorst (RUS), Jasmin Ouschan (AUT), Pijus Labutis (LTU) and Jouni Tahti (FIN).
Fedor Gorst had a thriller against Joshua Filler (GER) in the men’s 9-ball division. Both player performed tremendously well throughout the event and deserved their spot in the final match. Gorst was always ahead of Filler whose break let him down big time in the match. But the German struck back whenever he could and kept the match open for a long time. Then Gorst got some momentum and went on the hill, taking a nice 8:4 lead over Filler. But one of „Killer Filler’s“ most important talents is that he keeps his nerves together and plays rock solid even when under fire. Filler took some racks off Gorst since the Russian himself had some problems with his break shot in the latter part of the match. Filler even got to the hill and created an 8:8 situation. The heat was on for both players with Gorst having the break shot. He had 2 balls down and an open layout. From there, Filler never got back to the table and Gorst sneaked past the winning line, taking the match with 9:8 over brave Filler.

The night of the Iberian Peninsula
The Team competition of the Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 have been decided. The Spanish Men’s Team and the Portuguese Women’s Team took the titles in their respective division.
The Spanish team took a straight way into the final match against the Austrians. After defeating Cyprus with 2:0, they dethroned the defending Champion team Poland with 2:1. Then they booked their seat in the quarter-final with a victory of team Russia. After eliminating team Czech Republic, the Spaniards again met team Poland. Once more, they won 2:1. In the final match, Francisco Diaz-Pizarro was the first one ready when he pocketed the final 10-ball against Albin Ouschan to win his individual with 8:3. The 8-ball match was still on and also pretty close. Alcaide was leading 7:6 over Maximilian Lechner when Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz won pretty clearly with 9:5 in his 9-ball match over Mario He. That brought the second point to team Spain which already was the title for them.

In the women’s team competition, the current titleholders were able to defend their crown. Team Portugal with Sara Rocha and Vania Franco went undefeated all the way into the final match. They overcame Team Spain 2:0, then Team Italy 2:0. In the semi-final, the had a thriller against Team Russia and managed to win that in the shoot-out with 8:7. In the final match, the Portuguese met team Germany. Sara Rocha was dominating the 9-ball match with Veronica Ivanovskaia and clearly rode the winning wave with 7:2. The 8-ball match between Franco and Tina Vogelmann was a bit closer, but in the end Franco took the match and the title winning 6:3 over the German.

The situation in the medal table has not changed too much, but the distances are pretty close between the different nations. Poland is still leading the table with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals. The Russian team is up their neck, only having one Bronze Medal less than the Polish. Third ranked nation is Finland with one medal of each colour.
Earlier today, matches of the 9-ball individuals were played. Defending Champion Konrad Juszczyszyn (POL) took down Marc Turpel (LUX) and eliminated him with 9:1 from the field. Denis Grabe (EST) paved his way into the round of the last 32 players in 9-ball by outplaying Jani Uski (FIN) 9:8. In the all-Russian class between fedor Gorst and Konstantin Stepanov, Gorst remained on top in the end and won the match with 9:6. „The Kaiser“ Ralf Souquet (GER) had to deal with „The Terminator“ Niels Feijen (NED). While Souquet has already taken a silver medal in the 8-ball earlier this week, Feijen was still looking for his medal to come. But Souquet destroyed that dream of Feijen by winning 9:5. With Feijen out of the 9-ball, he will not be able to win a medal in the individuals in this year’s European Championships. Another national clash happened between the two Dutch players Jan Rempe and Marc Bijsterbosch. Young Rempe sneaked past Bijsterbosch by taking the match with 9:8. Joshua Filler (GER) wasted no time with Sergey Lutsker (RUS), winning 9:2 in 25 minutes. French up and rising player Alex Montpellier sealed the destiny for Eklent Kaci (ALB) in the 9-ball individuals by making it with 9:8 over the Albanian. Sam Wetzel (LUX) surprisingly took out newly crowned 10-ball European Champion Mieszko Fortunski (POL) 9:8. That surprise was as close and as unexpected as the match between Mats Schjetne (NOR) and Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP). 9:8 was the final result in favour of Schjetne.
The final day of the Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 for men, women, U23 and wheelchair athletes will commence tomorrow morning at 10:00 CET with matches in the 9-ball individuals competition in the Men’s and Under 23 division.

Team Austria eliminates Team Sweden in an exciting thriller
In an exciting and thrilling encounter, Team Austria defeated Team Sweden in the Men’s team quarter-final at the Dynamic Billard European Pool Championships 2019 in Treviso, Italy, with 2:1.
Before the match, Team Austria consisting of Albin Ouschan, Mario He and Maximilian Lechner was the favourite to win the match. Team Sweden with Christian Fischer-Sparrenloev, Adrian Weiss and Senharip Azar was the clear underdog. However, the course of the match was different to what the expectations were. All three matches were quite close. Mario He was up against Fischer in 9-ball, Ouschan played Weiss in 10-ball and Lechner fought with Azar in 8-ball. All matches went quite even. When Fischer pocketed the final 9-ball to win 9:6 over Mario He, Lechner was on the next table pocketing the 8-ball to win his match 8:5. The intermediate score was 1:1 in the match and the 10-ball was the decider- Since Ouschan and Weiss both played quite slow, the tournament management decided to bring a shot-clock in. The scoreboard displayed 5:5 at the time. Ouschan managed to get another rack and led 6:5. Weiss tried to level the match again but he allowed Ouschan back to the table and the Austrian took the rack, getting on the hill with 7:5. Austria only needed one more point for the victory. Adrian Weiss was far from giving up. He played rock solid and used his chances and got to 6:7. Rack 14 brought the decision. Weiss was clearing the table and played some enormous shots to run the rack but he missed an easy 9-ball in the corner pocketed. The audience, especially the Swedish fans were shocked. It looked like Weiss could have made the match a hill-hill thriller but with this mistake, he lost this chance. Ouschan pocketed the two remaining balls and took the match with 8:6. That brought the 2:1 victory to Team Austria.
The other tram results were Team Spain winning 2:0 over Team Czech Republic, Team Poland defeating Team Germany with 2:0 and Team Russia won 2:1 over Team Portugal. The semi-finals are Spain versus Poland and Austria against Russia. They will be played on Monday evening at 18:30 with the finals to be played at 20:30 CET.
In the women’s team competition, the team semi-finals will be played between Portugal and Russia and Germany versus Poland.
The Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 for men, women, U23 and wheelchair athletes will commence tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET with matches in the 9-ball individuals competition in the Men’s and Women’s division.

9-ball and team action in Treviso today
Today featured matches from the 9-ball individuals and from the team competition men and women at the Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 in Treviso, Italy.
The 9-ball individuals were in the first rounds so there were not too many high profile clashed yet. One of the most interesting results in the men’s division was Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) defeating Eklent Kaci (ALB) in the men’s division with 9:6. The same result was good for Denis Grabe (EST) in his match with Fabio Petroni (ITA). Ivar Saris (NED) decided a hill-hill thriller against Sanjin Pehlivanovic (BIH) with 9:8 in his favour and advanced to the next round of the winner’s side. Probably the biggest surprise was Matjaz Erculj (SVK) defeating yesterday’s silver medallist Ralf Souquet (GER) 9:7. The surprise player of the Championships, Fabio Rizzi (FRA) took down Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) in a tough match with 9:8.
In the women’s 9-ball, defending Champion Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) won her first match quite comfortable with 7:4 over Tina Vogelmann (GER). Kristina Tkach (RUS), yesterday’s 8-ball winner, took down Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR) with 7:4. In that match, Polovinchuk was on her way to a great comeback but simple mistakes and unfortunate positions kept her from closing in on Tkach. Eylul Kibaroglu (TUR) pipped Marharyta Fefilava (BLR) to the post, winning that match 7:6.
In the wheelchair division, business as usual occurred. Defending Champion Jouni Tahti (FIN) won 7:3 over Maksim Suchanov (LTU). Henrik Larsson (SWE) overpowered Kaspars Turks (LAT) 7:3 and will meet Fred Dinsmore (IRL) in the next round. Dinsmore whitewashed Maksym Tiuftiaev (UKR) 7:0.
The matches in the Under 23’s displayed some interesting results. Defending Champion Vitaliy Patsura (UKR) was overrun by unheralded Samet Degirmenci (TUR) with 8:9 and needs to take the detour over the loser’s side now. The other favourites like Pjius Labutis (LTU), Aleksa Pecelj (SRB) and Casper Matikainen (FIN) all won their matches and made it to the winner’s qualification round.
In the men’s team matches, teams from Spain, Germany, Austria and Portugal have already booked their seats in the quarter-finals. They took down their respective opponents today and are waiting for the winners of the left side to join them again. Among those is the defending Champion, team Poland who is currently struggling against team North Cyprus.
In the women’s team competition, the winner’s qualification matches will be played between Portugal versus Italy and Russia against Germany for a seat in the semi-finals.
The Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 for men, women, U23 and wheelchair athletes will commence tomorrow morning at 09:00 CET with matches in the 9-ball individuals competition in the Men’s division.
