The World Snooker Shoot-Out - bigger and better

The World Snooker Shoot-Out returns in 2017 and will be bigger and better than ever before. For the first time this tournament will now be a ranking snooker tournament, with 128 players battling it out for the most exciting event in snooker. The tournament is popular with players, fans and sponsors due to its quick fire nature and unpredictability.

Tournament Format

� A random draw is conducted before every round; each player is numbered according to their World Ranking.

� Players lag at the beginning of the frame to see who will break off.

� A shot clock is in operation with the limit being 15 seconds per shot in the first 5 minutes, but this is reduced to 10 seconds per shot in the second 5 minutes. If the cue ball doesn�t hit the object ball this results in a 5-point penalty.

� One frame matches lasting no longer than 10 minutes.

� The players must either pot a ball or hit a cushion with every shot.

� All fouls will result in ball in hand.

� If the match is tied at the end of the frame a blue ball shoot out will determine who wins. The blue is placed on its spot and the player can place the white ball anywhere in the D to try and pot the blue to win the frame and the match.

� Total prize money for the tournament will be �146,000, with the winner pocketing �32,000.

Such is the nature of the Shoot-Out, no player to date has successfully been able to defend their title. The defending champion Robin Hull from Finland will be the latest in a long list of players looking to buck that trend. Form really does go out of the window in this format, with the varying shot clocks. It�s so unpredictable that only two World Champions, Stuart Bingham and Graeme Dott have even made the final.
