Tkach wins Women North Cyprus Open Euro-Tour

With a convincing 7:3 victory over Marharyta Fefilava (BLR), Kristina Tkach (RUS) won the Women North Cyprus Open Euro-Tour in Acapulco Hotel and Resort, Kyrenia, North Cyprus.

After having lost her first match in the tournament 6:7 to Melanie Suessenguth (GER), Tkach started her quest for glory and defeated all of her opponents to come. In the final, she dominated Fefilava and simply played much better than her in order to win the match and the tournament with 7:3.

The semi-final between Kristina Tkach and Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR) was a clear affair in favor of Tkach. She was simply too strong today for the Ukrainian. Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER) was ousted by a hair’s breadth with 6:7 by Fefilava.

In the quarter-finals, Tkach just made it with 7:5 over strong Spaniard Amalia Matas (ESP). Polovinchuk sent Ina Kaplan (GER) home with 7:4. Ivanovskaia got the better of fellow teammate Kristina Grim (GER) 7:5 and Fefilava won 7:6 in a heartbreaker that was determined by several mistakes in the end over Marika Poikkijoki (FIN).

The day has started with the loser’s qualification round in the Women North Cyprus Open. Probably the toughest encounter in that round was the match between Kateryna Polovinchuk and Nr.1 ranked Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS).

Polovinchuk got a grip first and ran away with 4:1 after 5 racks. Then Seroshtan took a time-out and tried to somehow break Polovinchuk’s flow. Obviously, she succeeded in doing that. She pulled back some racks and turned the scoreboard to 4:3 in favor of Polovinchuk. After 10 racks, she even managed to tie the match at 5:5. Then Polovinchuk got to the hill first and took a 6:5 lead again. That was once more equalized by Seroshtan and the match went hill-hill. At 6:6, it was Kateryna Polovinchuk who kept cool and controlled her nerves better and crossed the winning line to take the match with 7:6 and oust the current ranking leader in the early stage. The other results were Veronika Ivanovskaia winning 7:1 over Christine Wiechert (GER), Marika Poikkijoki defeating Melanie Suessenguth (GER) 7:3 and Kristina Tkach winning 7:1 over Ine Helvik (NOR).

Top 8 Finishers:

1. Kristina Tkach RUS
2. Marharyta Fefilava BLR
3. Kateryna Polovinchuk UKR
3. Veronika Ivanovskaia GER
4. Amalia Matas ESP
4. Ina Kaplan GER
4. Kristina Grim GER
4. Marika Poikkijoki FIN
