Jasmin Ouschan conquers another title for her collection

Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) just won the Dynamic Billard Italian Open for Women in Treviso, Italy, with an easy 7:1 victory over Christine Wiechert (GER).

It was Wiechert’s first appearance in a Euro-Tour final and she has had already several tough matches behind her so she seemed to be a bit tired and worn out already. Her opponent was completely the opposite. Ouschan is used to final matches and TV settings and long final days so she was very much on top of her game. That constellation was proven to be true during the final match. Wiechert seems to be out of power. Trailing 0:2 to strong Ouschan, she even missed an easy 9-ball. That was probably a crucial point in the match. From then on, the mistakes accumulated and Wiechert could not find any remedy against her strong opponent. Ouschan switched to „business-as-usual“ mode and took rack after rack. In the end, the final result of 7:1 in favor of Ouschan is a true display of the final match. However, it can be regarded a huge success for Wiechert to have reached the final in a Euro-Tour event for the first time in her career.

„I had a rough start into the event“, stated Ouschan after the match, „I lost my opener and did not perform well. I had bad back problems before this event and I even had to cancel my participation into the men’s event earlier this week.“ „My back still kind of hurts but it got better and so did my performance. In the end, this trophy is a nice reward for all the pain and efforts“, Ouschan added.

The semi-finals were as different from one another as possible. While Ouschan determined her match from start to beginning and achieved a nice and comfortable 7:2 victory over strong Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL), Wiechert needed all her strength in order to defeat strong Russian player and current Nr.1 on the European rankings, Nataliya Seroshtan with 7:5.

The quarter-finals saw Wesolowska having an easy match with Kristina Grim (GER), winning 7:2. Ouschan needed some more effort to eliminate Caroline Roos (SWE) with 7:4. The biggest surprise was again Christine Wiechert when she ousted favored Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) quite clearly with 7:3. The toughest match was the all-Russian clash with the closest result in that round. Seroshtan remained victorious over her teammate Kristina Tkach with 7:5.

This concludes the coverage of the Dynamic Billard Italian Open events.
The event was hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). Fortunski grabs the title at the Dynamic Billard Italian Open

Mieszko Fortunski (POL) has just won the Dynamic Billard Italian Open with a 9:6 victory over Ralf Souquet (GER) in the final match. It is his first Euro-Tour victory ever.

The final match was determined by equal chances and play from both players. The decision came in the 14th rack. Fortunski was 7:6 up and players were taking racks in turns. With his breakshot coming up, Ralf Souquet got to the table but remained dry off the break. No ball was down and Fortunski had a shot at the 1-ball. He cleared the table and broke and ran another rack in order to win the tournament with a fantastic performance!

The semifinal matches were determined by close matches and high tension. The first semifinal between Fortunski and Jayson Shaw (SCO) turned out to become a hill-hill thriller. Both players played equally strong but Fortunski once again had the better ending. While luck was more or less a factor in that match, the other semifinal between Souquet and Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) was as tight and exciting as the first semifinal but the outcome was determined by a bit of negligence.

The first half of the match belonged to Souquet. He took a 6:4 lead and played quite well. Then Ekonomopoulos attacked and even overtook Souquet. He managed to get on the hill first with an 8:6 lead over „The Kaiser“. Souquet hung in there and tied the match at 8:8. The 17th rack was pure drama. After several safety shots, Ekonomopoulos started pocketing balls and looked like the definite winner. But he missed an easy 9-ball! Nobody expected Souquet to get back to the table. He found himself with a one rail shot on the 9-ball which he fired in the center of the side pocket to win the semifinal and proceed into the final match against Fortunski. However, Ekonomopoulos will probably remember that shot for quite some time.

Semi-Final results:
Mieszko Fortunski 9 Jayson Shaw 8
Nikos Ekonomopoulos 8 Ralf Souquet 9

Quarter-Final results:
Niels Feijen NED 8 Mieszko Fortunski POL 9
Konstantin Stepanov RUS 4 Jayson Shaw SCO 9
Mark Gray GBR 7 Nikos Ekonomopoulos GRE 9
Nick Malai GRE 5 Ralf Souquet GER 9

In the Dynamic Billard Women Open, an upset occurred already in the first round. Austrian star player Jasmin Ouschan lost her opener 5:7 to Monika Zabek (POL) who played against Ouschan for the first time in her career. Ouschan committed too many mistakes and Zabek consequently made use of them. Unfortunately for Zabek, she lost the next two matches in a row (3:7 to Khodjaeva and 4:7 to Helvik) and is already out of the event even though she probably managed to solve the „hardest task“ possible. Ouschan is still in the tournament with victories on the loser’s side over Sukmawaty Facquet (INS), 7:4 and Ina Kaplan (GER) 7:5. Ouschan will play Micha Beuriot (NED) in the loser’s qualification match.
Nr. 1 player in the women’s ranking, Russia’s Nataliya Seroshtan lived up to her expectations. She took down Ortenzia Haefliger (SUI) 7:3 and Silvia Gaudino (ITA) 7:5 and with that has already booked her seat in the round of the last 16 players single elimination which will be played tomorrow morning at 10:00 CET.

Among others, Seroshtan will be joined by her teammate Kristina Tkach who defeated Sukmawaty Facquet 7:1 and Melanie Suessenguth (GER) 7:3. Also Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) is in that very round. She won 7:2 over Christine Wiechert (GER), then 7:5 against Jennifer Vietz (GER), and 7:3 over Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR).
The Women’s tournament will continue tomorrow morning at 10:00 CET with matches of the last 16 players single elimination. The tournament is played on 20 tables of which up to 12 will be in a livestream. In order to be able to follow all the action LIVE, premium membership can be purchased at www.kozoom.com.

Ekonomopoulos through to last 16 with a stellar performance

Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) is through to the stage of the final 16 players single elimination at the Dynamic Billard Italian Open in Treviso. With an outstanding performance so far today, he defeated Daniel Maciol (POL) 9:5, then Mario He (AUT) in a 9:8 thriller and finally „Fabulous“ Fabio Petroni (ITA) 9:5 in the single elimination rounds. Ekonomopoulos seems to be on fire these days and he will face Marc Bijsterbosch (NED).

Other remarkable results from today include Abdullah Al-Youssef (KUW) eliminating favored Mika Immonen (FIN) with 9:8 in loser’s round 3. Immonen had also been defeated by your Dutch player Tim de Ruyter (NED) in the round before. Al-Youssef then went on and encountered Jakub Sawicki (POL) who he also eliminated with 9:2. In the next round, the loser’s qualification round, Al-Youssef lost to Mieszko Fortunski (POL) 5:9.

The Nr.1 ranked player, Niels Feijen (NED) is also still on track with his mission to remain Nr.1 in the European rankings. Today, he won matches against Christian Sparrenloev-Fischer (SWE) and Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) to book his seat among the final 16 players of the Dynamic Billard Italian Open.

Up and rising German star player Can Salim-Giasar (GER) is also among the last 16 men standing. He took down Kamil Szaszor (POL), then lost to Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) but fought his way back with victories over Manuel Gama (POR) and Woytek Trajdos (POL).

Mark Gray (GBR) is also among the elite group of the last 16 players. He made his way with victories over Omran-Saleem Abdullah (KUW), his roommate Daryl Peach (GBR) and Jani Siekkinen (FIN).

The event will continue tomorrow morning with the round of the last 16 players single elimination. Also, the Women’s tournament will start tomorrow morning at 9:00 CET with the first round matches. The tournament is played on 20 tables of which 12 will be in a livestream. In order to be able to follow all the action LIVE, premium membership can be purchased at www.kozoom.com. Magnificent standard of performance in Treviso

The first day of the Dynamic Billard Italian Open in the BHR Best Western Hotel in Treviso, Italy, has proven one thing for sure: the level and standard of European pool billiards is extremely high.

Clear victories were presented by two European star players who have decided to live in the United States these days. Mika Immonen (FIN) and Jayson Shaw (SCO) have attended the Euro-Tour since an absence of many years in order to find out about the competition level in Europe. „Iceman“ Immonen, who has participated in the Euro-Tour since its beginning in the early 90’s and is living in the US for many years now, whipped Rafig Adigazalov (EST) 9:1 and then remained the upper hand over Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) 9:7.

„Eagle-eye“ Jayson Shaw had a bit more work to do today. His first round match against Guilherme Sousa (POR) finished quite clearly with 9:4 in favor of Shaw. Then the Scotsman had to face Estonia’s Denis Grabe. That match went hill-hill and Shaw was the player with the better end, winning 9:8 after a heartbreaker in the 17th rack.

It is really hard to predict the outcome of matches in the Dynamic Billard Euro-Tour these days. Swedish all-time favorite and captain of the European Mosconi Cup team, Marcus Chamat, got a totally unexpected first round defeat from completely unheralded Thomas Poeschl (GER). Poeschl kind of steamrolled Chamat and won the match more than clear with 9:3.

The first-time Euro-Tour players from Vietnam have probably had mixed emotions today. Do, The-Kien won his match with Olivier Mortier (BEL) 9:6 and is still on the winner’s side. Luong, Chi-Dung lost his first round match 8:9 to Marco Spitzky (GER) and then defeated Steve Chick (GBR) 9:2. Luong is joined on the loser’s side by his teammate Nguyen, Quang-Huy who lost 6:9 to Marek Kudlik (POL) before he was able to win over Stefan Gruber (GER) 9:5. The fourth remaining team member of the Vietnamese national team, Pham, Phuong-Nam, has won 9:4 over young orange player Marc Bijsterbosch (NED) and is also still making his way through the winner’s side.

The current top guns of the rankings have performed flawlessly so far. Niels Feijen (NED), „The Terminator“ has shown no mercy with his opponents today. 9:2 over John Tanttu (FIN) and 9:3 over Daniele Corrieri (ITA) are his merits of the day.

Nick van den Berg (NED) only had one appearance today. However, it was an impressive one. Especially for Majid Al-Azmi (KUW) who could not win one single rack against „El Niño“ from the Netherlands. Mark Gray (GBR) also only had one appearance for the day. He defeated Mark Magi (EST) 9:5.

The event continues tomorrow morning with matches from winner’s round 2. The tournament is played on 20 tables of which 12 will be in a livestream. In order to be able to follow all the action LIVE, premium membership can be purchased at www.kozoom.com. Once a premium membership is held, all events for the respective period of time can be viewed LIVE. Additionally, a huge video gallery is contained in the website.

::: DAY 0 :::

185 Players attending the Dynamic Billard Italian Open

The first tournament of the 2016 Dynamic Billard Euro-Tour series, the Italian Open is about to be launched in lovely Treviso, Italy, at the BHR Best Western Treviso Hotel. As many as 185 players have enrolled for the open event, coming from far away places like United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and even Vietnam. For the first time, the Vietnamese national pool team is present at a Euro-Tour event. They consist of four players and they are looking forward to gaining a lot of experience and knowledge during these upcoming days here in Northern Italy.

In the current rankings, Niels Feijen (NED) is leading clearly with his teammate Nick van den Berg (NED) being on Nr.2. However, both players played the final in Treviso in 2014 which will be deducted after this event so they will lose many points on Saturday. Waiting on Nr.2, tied with van den Berg, is Mark Gray (GBR), winner of the last event here in Treviso in November 2015. He has the same amount of points as van den Berg but will only lose points for 17th place. So he might be a hot favorite to be leading the Euro-Tour rankings after this event, depending on his performance here.

Following the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open, on Saturday morning a women’s Euro-Tour will begin at 09:00. 45 female athletes have enrolled for the event and the winner will be decided after the final match which is scheduled for Sunday, November 29th, at 16:00.

The tournaments will be played on 20 tables of which 12 will be in a livestream. In order to be able to follow all the action LIVE, premium membership can be purchased at www.kozoom.com.
