Mark Gray wins Dynamic Billard Treviso Open

With an absolutely justified 9:3 victory over Alexander Kazakis (GRE), Mark Gray (GBR) took the title at the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open 2015.

The final match was decided in the first racks already. While Gray continued his performance and played rock solid, Kazakis committed some unforced errors which completely brought him off track. He missed several easy shots in the beginning and could not prevent Gray from capitalizing from it. In rack two, Kazakis missed an easy 6-ball which was a straight shot in the corner pocket. Then in rack four and five, Kazakis missed the 1-ball in both racks. The more mistakes Kazakis played the stronger Gray grew throughout the match. Logically, Kazakis had no chances to win the match and the final result of 9:3 in favor of Gray is absolutely justified. „I am absolutely amazed to win this tournament wit 180 entries“, stated Gray after the match“.

Czuprynska takes her first Women’s Euro-Tour title

Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) just won the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open Women’s Euro-Tour event with a convincing 7:2 victory over Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR) in the final match.

Czuprynska had the better roll of the balls in the final. Leading 3:2, she missed an 8-ball but the cue ball went snookered behind the 9-ball, leaving no shot for her opponent. Polovinchuk tried to hit the 8-ball over one rail and succeeded in doing so but the cue ball scratched in the side pocket. That brought Czuprynska to 4:2. Later on in the match, Czuprynska grew stronger while Polovinchuk obviously seemed to struggle to get going. Whatever the Ukrainian tried, she could not come up with something to put into her account. Trailing 2:5, Polovinchuk tried a kiss shot off the 1-ball and pocket the 9-ball. She did not make it; to the contrary, she left the 9-ball having over the pocket for Czuprynska who accepted the gift and went on the hill with a 6:2 lead. The final rack again was determined by the strong play of Czuprynska who finally pocketed the final 9-ball and won the match and the tournament with 7:2.

„I am so happy“, stated Czuprynska, „this is my first victory in a Women’s Euro-Tour event.“ „I am now looking forward to making it to the World Championships again and maybe finish with a 9th place or better“, added Czuprynska.

Earlier today, Polovinchuk took care of two major upsets in the event. She ousted former Champion Monica Webb (USA) with 7:5 in the loser’s qualification round. Then she went on and defeated European star player Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) with 7:6 in the round of the last 16 players. In the quarter-finals, Polovinchuk took care of Kristina Tkach.

Babica trounced Drago at Dynamic Billard Treviso Open

Radoslaw Babica from Poland ousted „The Tornado“ Tony Drago (MLT) from the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open Euro-Tour event with a narrow 9:8 victory.

One great and thrilling match happened today in the loser’s qualification round when Radoslaw Babica (POL) faced Tony Drago (MLT). The match went along very leveled and after 10 racks, the scoreboard displayed a tie at 5:5. Then, Babica went on the hill first and got an 8:6 advantage over Drago. But the „Tornado“ struck back, winning two straight racks in order to make the match 8:8. Then, Drago was at the table with all balls in the open for him. However, he missed an easy 5-ball and allowed Babica back into the table. The Polish could not run-out but he turned the final rack into a safety exchange. Drago tried a risky bank shot when he had the option of either playing a safety or going for a bank. He missed it and allowed Babica to run the rack and win the match with 9:8.

Another interesting match was the clash between Michal Turkowski (POL) and Marcus Chamat (SWE). After five racks, Turkowski was leading 4:1 over Chamat. But the Swede did not even think about giving up. He fought back and got into the match, turning the scoreboard to 8:7 after 15 racks. Then Turkowski played up to his best and made the match another hill-hill thriller. In the final and decisive 17th rack, a safety battle occurred. Both players tried not to leave a shot for the opponent. Then Chamat left a shot for Turkowski which the Polish had to jump. He flunked the ball in over three rails but it could not be considered to be a lucky shot since he hooked himself again on the next ball. While he attempted to hit that object ball, Turkowski committed a foul shot and gave ball in hand to Chamat who capitalized from it and ran the rack to win the match by a hair’s breadth with 9:8. In the next round, the loser’s qualification round, Chamat fell to Ivica Putnik (CRO) with 5:9.

The results of the last 32 players single elimination are as follows:
Niels Feijen v Konrad Juszczyszyn 9:7
Oliver Ortmann v Manuel Gama 9:2
Serge Das v Francisco Diaz-Pizarro 3:9
John Tanttu v Marc Bijsterbosch 9:8
Mario Stahl v Alexander Kazakis 3:9
Radosław Babica v Mateusz Sniegocki 9:8
Tomasz Kaplan v Eklent Kaci 9:8
Konstantin Stepanov v Albin Ouschan 7:9
Nick van den Berg v Mariusz Skoneczny 9:8
Ivica Putnik v Imran Majid 9:8
Mats Schjetne v Kasper Kristoffersen 9:4
Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz v Petri Makkonen 9:6
Mieszko Fortunski v Can Salim-Giasar 5:9
Piotr Kudlik v Ralf Souquet 3:9
Denis Grabe v Damianos Giallourakis 9:5
Roman Hybler v Mark Gray 4:9

That provides us with the following line-up for the round of the last 16 players:
Niels Feijen v Oliver Ortmann
Francisco Diaz-Pizarro v John Tanttu
Alexander Kazakis v Radoslaw Babica
Tomasz Kaplan v Albin Ouschan
Nick van den Berg v Ivica Putnik
Mats Schjetne v Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz
Can Salim-Giasar v Ralf Souquet
Denis Grabe v Mark Gray

Action continues tomorrow morning at 10:00 local time with matches of the round of the last 16 players. At 09:00, the women’s tournament will start with matches of the first round.

The tournament is played on 16 tables of which 12 are in a livestream. In order to be able to follow all the action LIVE, premium membership can be purchased at www.kozoom.com. Grim sends Chawki home

The Dynamic Billard Treviso Open has begun today and already several upsets have taken place. One spectacular match was the encounter between Kristina Grim (GER) and Jim Chawki (SWE). Grim managed to win that match with 9:8.

From the very beginning it could be seen that Grim did not want to become an easy prey for Chawki in the first loser’s round. Both players had lost their opening matches and now one of them would have to be on the way home after the match. Of course, it was to be expected that Chawki would survive that round. But Grim had a furious start, taking a 4:1 lead over Chawki who committed many mistakes, miscues, and so on. After the first 5 racks, Chawki got his nerves together and got back into the match, tying it after 10 racks at 5:5. The match went along with none of the two being able to really gain an advantage over the opponent. To the contrary, both players took racks in turn and at 7:6, it was the first and only time for Chawki to take the lead. Grim got back and went on the hill first. Then Chawki struck back to make the match a hill-hill thriller at 8:8. With that score, Chawki came up with a dry break. Some safety shots were exchanged and with three balls left on the table, Chawki left a tough safety position for Grim on the slate. The cue ball was hiding behind the 9-ball with the 7-ball being the ball on, but no direct shot available for Grim. The German took her time and played a rail first shot, pocketing the 7-ball in the corner pocket and having position on the 8-ball. She sunk the remaining two balls and walks on to the next loser’s round while Chawki is out of the tournament.

The day did also not start too well for the two European star players Stephane Cohen (nothing) and David Alcaide (ESP). Both of these athletes have won European Championships in the past and can be considered as „heavyweights“ in European pool. However, today they both lost their first matches. While Cohen lost 8:9 to Costas Konnaris (CYP), Alcaide went down 3:9 against Damianos Giallourakis (GRE). So they met at an unexpected early stage in loser’s round 1. There, the better end was with Alcaide who managed to stay alive in the event with a 9:6 result over Cohen.

More interesting results include unheralded Andrea Maimone (ITA) winning with 9:2 over favored Marcus Chamat (SWE) in winner’s round 1. In the same round, Daniel Tanggud (SWE) defeated Radoslaw Babica (POL) with 9:8. Mark Gray (GBR), Nr. 2 ranked player in the Euro-Tour rankings, got the better of German kid Nicolas Baumanns (GER) with 9:7.

Action continues tomorrow morning at 08:00 local time with matches of the second winner’s round.

The tournament is played on 16 tables of which 12 are in a livestream. In order to be able to follow all the action LIVE, premium membership can be purchased at www.kozoom.com. Once a premium membership is held, all events for the respective period of time can be viewed LIVE. Additionally, a huge video gallery is contained in the website.
