 | BWPPA Tour - Event No.2 - The Simonis Northern 9 Ball Open |
Posted on Thursday, June 04 2015 @ 08:39:20 UTC By admin |
2015 BWPPA Ranking Event No.2 - The Simonis Northern 9 Ball Open Escape Pool Bar 47-51 Peel Street Barnsley South Yorkshire S70 2RL 01226 779 347 www.bwppa.com - full photo gallery - latest rankings
Saturday/Sunday 16/17 May 2015
Southern wins Simonis Northern 9-ball Open, and Abubaker takes the Challenge Cup Crown
After a great start to the 2015 season at the ‘BWPPA/BWCSA Pool Academy’ at Stoke Mandeville, it was back to one of our favourite venues, as the Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley hosting the 2nd BWPPA event of the season on 16/17 May 2015.
Tony Southern narrowed the gap at the top of the rankings to Fred Dinsmore, as he won his second event in a row with a convincing 7-1 win over joint 2014 player of the year Daniel Lee, and lost just 6 racks in the whole event.
As Dinsmore was the No. 1 seed, he received a first round bye, then had a solid 7-3 win over Dave Beaumont, to advance to the winners qualifying round where he had a 7-4 win over old rival Roy Kimberley to reach the semi-finals.
Kimberley had come through a hard fought game with Matt ‘The Doncaster Destroyer’ Lester, and the score of 7-3 flattered Kimberley, as Lester is improving each event and is a credit to the tour.

In the other half of the draw, Southern (following a 1st round bye) had a 7-2 win over Matt Duffy, then beat Lee 7-0, to reach the semi finals.
In the losers side final round Duffy beat Kimberley 7-5, and Lee beat Beaumont 7-3, to both advance into the semi-finals.
In the first semi-final, Lee beat an out of sorts Dinsmore 7-2.
In the other semi-final it was Southern who beat Duffy with a 7-3 score line.
So to the final, and it was almost a repeat of their earlier match, as Southern won 7-1, to take his 2nd event on the trot, but great credit to Lee, making his first final exactly a year after joining the tour, and he has shown he will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
Although Dinsmore is ahead in the rankings, as it’s a best 4 out of 5 ranking system, only this seasons results count at the end of the season and with 2 wins from 2 events, Southern is currently in pole position provisionally going into event 3.
The Challenge Cup final was won by Aslam Abubaker who beat Kimberley 5-3.
The next event is the Talisman British Wheelchair 10 Ball Championship Shootout, which will be held at the BWPPA/BWCSA ‘Pool Academy’ at Stoke Mandeville on the weekend of 11th/12th July 2015.
