Niels Feijen (NED) "The Terminator" leaves no chance to Kazakis
With a very powerful and impressive performance, Niels Feijen (NED) won the final match of the Austrian Open against Alexander Kazakis (GRE) with 9:4.
Just like in the semi-final, Feijen was in absolute top condition. He was focussed, on top of the match at all times. In the early phase of the match, Kazakis seemed to keep the pace with Feijen. But four missed shots, one foul and one scratched cue-ball on the break is simply too many mistakes when you play against Feijen at his A-level.

Terminator shows no mercy
Niels Feijen (NED) Two clear results and an upset in the semis
Niels "The Terminator" Feijen (NED) outclassed his opponent Petri Makkonen (FIN) with 9:1.
Feijen was as dangerous as dynamite in this match. Though he missed a shot in the beginning, he did not let that destroy his focus and came back even stronger. He ran out 80% of his own breaks and missed only one more shot during the whole match. Makkonen on the other hand missed five shots and could not come up with a single run-out. Probably, Feijen's performance impressed him and he could not find any way to stop "The Terminator" from entering the final match of the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open 2013.
The other finalist did not have that much of a challenge. Alexander Kazakis (GRE) also won his match over David Alcaide (ESP) with 9:1. It was very obvious that Alcaide did not attempt to win the match at all. He needed to get to the airport to catch his flight and played very fast and missed shot after shot. What a disgrace! After the match, tournament director David Morris decided to fine Alcaide with 1.000,-€ for that poor sportsmanship. Alcaide will have the right to appeal against that decision.
The final match will be played at 18:00 CET between Kazakis and Feijen.
Alexander Kazakis (GRE) v David Alcaide (ESP) 9:1 Petri Makkonen (FIN) v Niels Feijen (NED) 1:9
In the women's Euro-Tour, Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) just defeated Barbara Bolfelli (ITA) with 7:6 after having trailed 3:6. The single elimination round of the women will be played at 20:30 CET. Ina Kaplan (GER), Louise Furberg (SWE) and Ana Mazhirina (RUS) have also won their matches to join Ouschan in the round of the final 16 players. The loser's qualification round of the women has started at 17:00 CET.
Makkonen as sharp as a knife
Petri Makkonen (FIN) Women's tournament started today in Austria
Petri Makkonen (FIN) will be playing the semi-final match at the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open. He defeated Tomasz Kaplan (POL) with 6:9 and Phil Burford (GBR) in the quarter-final with 9:4 even. He came across very focussed and rock solid and also had some good rolls on his side. He will now face Niels Feijen (NED) in the semi-final. Feijen has defeated Daryl Peach (GBR) 9:5 and Mark Gray (GBR) 9:7 in the previous rounds and is now up against Makkonen for a shot at the final.
The second semi-final will be played between Alexander Kazakis (GRE) and David Alcaide (ESP). Kazakis overpowered local star Albin Ouschan (AUT) 9:8 and then remained on the winning road by defeating Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) with 9:6.

At 09:00 CET this morning, the first matches of the women's Euro-Tour 9-Ball have taken place in St. Johann/Pg. Favorite player Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) won her first two opening matches with 7:2 over Nathalie Seichter (NED) and 7:1 over Caroline Roos (SWE).
A total of 38 players from 12 different countries have found their way to Austria to fight for the title. The women's matches will continue throughout the day with the last round to be played at 20:30 CET. The men's event continues with the
Melling easy prey for Ekonomopoulos
Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) Many close results at the Austrian Open in St. Johann
In a quick match that lasted 55 minutes only, Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) creamed Chris Melling (GBR) with 9:2.
All was good and even after four rack. At a score of 2:2, Melling seemed to lose his game and Ekonomopoulos showed no mercy with the Brit. Having played not so well in his first three matches, Ekonomopoulos knew he had to improve or leave the event. Obviously, he went for the first option. He dominated the match and played rock solid and fast. Melling never found his game and the result was 9:2 in favor or Ekonomopoulos in the end.
Other notable results include Tomasz Kaplan (POL) winning by a hair's breadth with 9:8 over Stephan Cohen (FRANCE).
Even though Cohen was the first one on the hill with 8:7, he was not able to win the match and continue the march to the trophy tomorrow. Alexander Kazakis (GRE) stopped young talented Ivo Aarts (NED) with 9:6 and eliminated him from the event at this stage. Juan Carlos Exposito (ESP) provided the tournament with a huge surprise, ousting last year's tour winner and Player of the Year 2012 Nick van den Berg (NED) with 9:6.
Results Final 32 players Albin Ouschan (AUT) v Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) 9:7 Alexander Kazakis (GRE) v Ivo Aarts (NED) 9:6 Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) v Manuel Gama (POR) 9:7 Dominic Jentsch (GER) v Oliver Ortmann (GER) 8:9 Karol Skowerski (POL) v Radoslaw Babica (POL) 9:2 Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) v Chris Melling (GBR) 9:2 Bruno Muratore (ITA) v Jim Chawki (SWE) 4:9 Huidji See (NED) v David Alcaide (ESP) 4:9 Marco Teutscher (NED) v Roman Hybler (CZE) 9:4 Tim Goergen (GER) v Phil Burford (GBR) 6:9 Stephan Cohen (FRANCE) v Tomasz Kaplan (POL) 8:9 Balasz Miko (HUN) v Petri Makkonen (FIN) 2:9 Daryl Peach (GBR) v Andreas Gerwen (SWE) 9:8 Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) v Niels Feijen (NED) 6:9 Mieszko Fortunski (POL) v Mark Gray (GBR) 8:9 Juan Carlos Exposito (ESP) v Nick van den Berg (NED) 9:6
Tomorrow at 09:00 CET, the Women's Euro-Tour will begin with the first round matches. The Men's Dynamic Billard Austria Open will continue at 10:00 CET. You can follow all the action LIVE at www.kozoom.com/en/pool-billiard/

Van den Berg through after tough match
Nick van den Berg (NED) HOF Souquet on his way home
Nick van den Berg (NED), EPBF Player of the Year 2012, has just won his spot in the single elimination stage of the final 32 players at the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open with a 9:6 victory over Mustapha Trabelsi (TUN).
Trabelsi was completely unheralded but had already achieved two victories in this tournament. That should have confused van den Berg at least, to meet a player in the winner's qualification round that he has never seen or heard of before. And Trabelsi proved to be dangerous. He sticked close to van den Berg at all times and never allowed the Dutch to gain too much of an advantage over him.
In fact, van den Berg needed all his experience and focus in order to stay sharp and snatch the match with 9:6 from Trabelsi. "I never heard of him before but he played some good pool", said van den Berg after the match. He is now through to the single elimination stage of the event which will begin at 21:00 CET.
Other notable results include BCA Hall of Famer Ralf Souquet (GER) losing to Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) with 5:9.
Important win for Croatian Putnik
Ivica Putnik (CRO) Braun eliminates Jasmin Ouschan from the tournament
Ivica Putnik (CRO) just hammered Mats Nygren (SWE) with 9:3 and made sure that he will stay in the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open 2013.
Right in his first match, Putnik received a 4:9 defeat from Konrad Piekarski (POL). He entered the loser's side but he did not want to depart from St. Johann without leaving his footprints in the tournament chart. He finished Sergio Lagunas-Moreno (ESP) 9:3 in his next match and then met Nygren. Putnik seemed to be too strong for the Scandinavian. He was always in the lead. At 3:2 for Putnik, he won another three racks in a row to turn the scoreboard to 6:2. Whether Nygren was impressed by that can only be guessed here. However, there was only one more point in the bag for Nygren. In the end, Putnik won with a solid result of 9:3 and is now looking forward to meet Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) in the next round.
In the match between Dennis Braun (GER) and World Champion Jasmin Ouschan (AUT), the German remained the upper hand and ended all of Ouschan's hopes for this event by defeating her with 9:4. Brown held the keys to this match at all times. After eight racks, he was even leading 8:1 and it looked like Ouschan overslept the beginning of the match. She struggled to stay in the tournament but the lead was too much already. 9:4 was Braun's winning score at the end of the match.
Other notable results include Ronald Regli (SUI) eliminating his fellow countryman and teammate Dimitri Jungo with 9:7 from the event. Nick Malai (ALB), winner of last year's Euro-Tour event in North Cyprus, ousted Konrad Juszczyszyn (POL) with 9:7. Juszczyszyn's teammate Lichodziejewksi was sent home by Fabio Petroni (ITA) with 2:9.
Ortmann wins over Wolff
Oliver Ortmann (GER) Austrian Federation revealed research results in presentation
Former World Champion Oliver Ortmann (GER) defeated unheralded Steffen Wolff (NOR) in the second winner's round with 9:5.
Both players had already one victory under the belt. Ortmann won over Roger Lysholm (NOR) 9:3 this afternoon. In the same round, Wolff took the match over Jorge Tinoco (POR) with 9:6. On paper, Ortmann was the clearly favored player in this match though. But young Steffen Wolff tried to keep the pace with the experienced Champion. That worked for him in the first racks. After seven racks, Ortmann was only leading with one point over Wolff; the score was 4:3 in favor of the German. Then Ortmann suddenly shifted into overdrive and before Wolff could do anything against it, Ortmann was on the hill leading 8:3. That obviously impressed the young Norwegian but he still tried to keep a foot in the door. He managed to win another two racks before Ortmann ended the match, winning 9:5. Ortmann will now have to deal with Mario He (AUT) tomorrow in order to see who will get straight to the single elimination and who will need to take the detour through the loser's side. Wolff will also get another chance. He has to win his next three matches in order to book a seat in the stage of the final 64 players of the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open Euro-Tour.
Beside the tournament, the Austrian Federation (represented by Bernhard Kaserer and Gerald Gollnhuber) and the Vienna Sports University (represented by Philipp Kornfeind) presented the results from last year's research here in St. Johann. 22 Elite players from 11 countries were wired and tested with high tech equipment which was worth over 430.000,-€. High speed cameras, infra-red equipment, highly sensitive sensors were packed onto them and loads of data was saved.
Philipp Kornfeind presented the results after the first year of research. As a summary it can be stated that there is no "perfect" way to shoot the balls in pool. Players are very much unique and achieve the same goal with different efforts. However, the data that was collected is far from being completely evaluated. Bernhard Kaserer thinks that it will take up to six more years to fully understand the collected data. Whenever new information is released, we will keep you posted. For further information contact the Austrian Federation ÖPBV at sekretaer@oepbv.at
Hard-earned victory for defending Champion
Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) Ekonomopoulos through to next winner's round
In a pretty one-sided match, last year's Austrian Open Champion Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) beat Austrian senior player Johann Wallner with 9:3.
The match definitely did not have the expected quality. Probably Wallner was too nervous and Ekonomopoulos was not focussed enough. However, both opponents missed several shots and played second-class safety shots. That kept the match open for quite some time. After eight racks, Ekonomopoulos was expectedly leading 6:2. Everything happened as expected with Ekonomopoulos not finding his break shot so far. Then, suddenly many mistakes occurred during the match. In the 7th and 11th rack alone, Ekonomopoulos missed five shots - an amount that he normally does not miss in an entire tournament. Probably he was really out of focus by then. Sadly enough though, Wallner could not capitalize from it.
Instead of punishing the defending Champion's poor performance, Wallner always came up with one more mistake. Either he ran out of position or he failed to pocket the next shot. He always allowed Ekonomopoulos back into the table. Unlike Wallner, the Greek shooter took his chances and finished the match with 9:3 after 75 minutes. In the next winner's round, Ekonomopoulos will face a player from the middle east - either Al-Hosani (UAE) or Bouhaimed (KUW). He definitely needs to improve his performance in order to stay on the winner's side.
Other notable results include Dominic Jentsch (GER) saving his first victory with 9:8 over Sami Ahola (FIN). Dutch junior player Marco Teutscher delivered an upset by sending Nr. 3 ranked player Dimitri Jungo (SUI) to the loser's side with 9:8.
Austrian Euro Tour 2013 - No challenge for Euro-Tour No.1
Albin Ouschan (AUT) Ouschan teaches a lesson to Wrobel
In his first match of the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open 2013, Nr. 1 ranked player Albin Ouschan (AUT) outclasses Krzysztof Wrobel (POL) with 9:1.
In Formula One, this would have counted as a "start-to-finish" victory. Ouschan dominated the match from the very beginning. He did not even have to come up with his A-game. After ten racks, the clear result was 9:1 to the Austrian local hero. The key to success for Ouschan's victory was obviously his break shot and the way he controlled his nerves at the table. While Wrobel seemed to struggle with that, Ouschan played as cold as ice. He succeeded to pocket balls in 80% of his break shots while Wrobel only scored 40% there. One could tell the difference in experience between the two contestants. In his next match on the winner's side, Ouschan will take on Marek Kudlik, a teammate of Wrobel.
Other notable results from the first rounds include Babken Melkonyan (ROM) defeating Hanni Al-Howri (UAE) with 9:6. Christian Reimering (GER) took his first match with 9:5 over Christopher Koba (SWE). After an intense battle, Berk Mehmetcik (TNC) continues his quest on the winner's side having defeated Thomas Knittel (AUT) with 9:8.
Austrian Euro Tour 2013 - Preparations for Austrian Open almost finished
Click the image to view the large photograph - use "back" to return here. Nine tables will be streamed LIVE
The preparations for the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open Euro-Tour in St. Johann/Pg., Austria, are coming to an end soon.
Outside, the sun is slowly replaced by dark clouds and heavy rain. This weather is a perfectly orchestrated background for the dramatic matches that are about to take place here in Austria.
Final work is done on the TV arena setup as players start pouring in, occupying the tournament tables and practicing for tomorrow's start of the Euro-Tour. The Alpina Sport- and Wellness-Hotel is filling up with many players from in and out of Europe who will have their share in fighting for the title during this week. Last year's winner Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) is part of the field just as current Euro-Tour Nr. 1 player Albin Ouschan (AUT) and EPBF Player of the Year 2012 Nick van den Berg (NED). The creme de la creme of European pool is taking part in this second Euro-Tour stop in 2013.
Originally, it was planned to show 15 out of 20 tables in the LIVE stream throughout the tournament. But technical problems with a satellite dish that provides the organizer with limited upload were the reason why the number of LIVE streamed tables had to be reduced to nine. However, these nine tables will be shown during all days in the used high-end quality on www.kozoom.com/en/ pool-billiard/
The event will be hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). For further information and reference please go to the federation website www.eurotouronline.eu or contact our press office.
