Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) Foto: EPBF/AMM First female to enter a Euro-Tour quarter-final ever
Friday, 19 October 2012: With an impressive performance, Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) defeated Mark Gray (GBR) in the round of the final 16 players with 9:4.
Ouschan played top level pool billiard. She showed no nervousness and she is the first female ever to make it to the quarter-finals of a men’s Euro-Tour event.
In another breath-taking thriller, her brother Albin Ouschan (AUT) also came out on top of Serge Das (BEL). If they both win their quarter-final matches, they will meet in the semi-final.
One indication how close the level of competition is here at the Dynamic Billiards North Cyprus Euro-Tour is the fact that 50% of the matches of the previous round ended 9:8.

Abdulla sends Gama home
Omran Abdulla (UAE) Foto: EPBF/AMM Souquet gets a second life
Friday, 19 October 2012: Completely unexpected, Omran Abdulla (UAE) exits Manuel Gama (POR) out of the Dynamic Billiards North Cyprus Open with 9:4.
So far, not too many upsets struck the Euro-Tour here in Kyrenia, North Cyprus. But Omran Abdulla from the United Arab Emirates definitely delivered a big surprise. He was up in the loser’s qualification round against Euro-Tour regular Manuel Gama. If Gama underestimated his opponent or just could not find his own pace cannot be answered here. However, Abdulla played good pool and claimed rack after rack. In the early stage of the match, Gama was able to put up some resistance. Abdulla was leading 3:1 and 4:2 when Gama tried to get momentum and even managed to tie the match at 4:4. At that point in time, the spectators thought that Gama would now shift into overdrive and destroy his Arab opponent. But the opposite happened. Abdulla played better and did not allow Gama to add one more point to his account. Winning five racks in a row, Abdulla sent Gama home with 9:4 and will now be drawn into the round of the final 32 players.
In another thrilling match, Ralf Souquet (GER) just made it with 9:8 over Jyri Halttu (SWE). At a score of 8:8, Halttu looked like the sure winner. He only had two straight shots left on the table. But he played the 8-ball too carelessly. It hung over the pocket but did not go in. Souquet only pocketed two more balls and won the match with a lot of luck 9:8.
Further notable results include Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) making it to the single elimination stage, defeating Ali Alsuwaidi (UAE) with 9:5. Grandmaster Oliver Ortmann (GER) thrashed Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) 9:3 while Mark Gray (GBR) achieved the same result over Saki Kanatlar (TUR).
Jentsch creamed Majid
Dominic Jentsch (GER) Foto: EPBF/AMM Clear affair for Jentsch
Friday, 19 October 2012: Dominic Jentsch (GER) clearly defeated Imran Majid (GBR) with 9:5 and proceeds to the single elimination round of the last 32 players.
Jentsch was already more than half way through before Majid seemed to try and get into the match. 5:0 was a comfortable lead for Jentsch who played with few errors only. Majid could not benefit from Jentsch’s mistakes at all. It seemed as if he had missed the first half of the match by oversleeping. From the 6th rack on Majid started playing more fluently and got closer to his normal performance. After playing an extraordinary well performed safety shot, Majid forced Jentsch to play a foul. With ball in hand, he managed to get his first point in the match.
But even though Majid grew stronger, Jentsch did not lose his focus. He played rock solid and answered the good safety shots from Majid with better resafes. It was too late for Majid to seize that match from Jentsch. He lost it already in the first five racks. After 13 racks, Jentsch was on the hill leading 8:5. He broke the rack and scratched. Majid got ball in hand but the layout of the balls was tricky. He could not get a position for the 4-ball so he played a great safety for it. But Jentsch did not seem to be too impressed since he played a great answer to that shot, leaving a tough lay for Majid. The Brit had no chance but try and leave a difficult shot for Jentsch which he did. But Jentsch pocketed almost everything today. He fired the 4-ball in and ran the rack to win the match 9:5.
Other notable results from the winner’s qualification round include Oliver Ortmann (GER) losing 3:9 to Petri Makkonen (FIN). Makkonen seemed to still have wind underneath his sails from his victory at the World Team Cup, together with Mika Immonen. Ivo Aarts (NED) remained victorious over Roman Hybler (CZE) with 9:8. Andreas Gerwen (SWE) used the same result to send Mark Gray (GBR) to the wrong side of the draw. Fabio Petroni (ITA) defeated Ralf Souquet (GER) with 9:5.
The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP).
