Drago sends Souquet to the loser’s side
Thursday, 01 March 2012: In the 2nd winner’s round, Dimitri Jungo (SUI) creamed Stephan Cohen (nothing) with 9:7.
Jungo definitely had the better start in the match. The table opened up in his favour and he was able to benefit from that. He succeeded in achieving a comfortable 5:1 and 6:3 lead over Cohen. Then, the French hopeful got better into stroke and he tied the match at 6:6 by playing solid and very focused. Then the tide turned against him again and went in favour of Jungo. The winner of last year’s Dynamic German Open Euro-Tour in Brandenburg went ahead 7:6. Cohen answered and tied the match again, 7:7. It was again Jungo to go in front and achieving an 8:7 lead over Cohen. He put a lot of pressure on Cohen and in end won the match with 9:7. Cohen will have to go through the loser’s side of the field while Jungo is still on track on the winner’s side.

Other notable results include Tony Drago (MLT) defeating Ralf Souquet (GER) by a whisker with 9:8. The same result was good for Babken Melkonyan (ARM), a Romanian resident who surprisingly won against “Maharaja” Imran Majid (GBR). German young gun Manuel Ederer (GER) showed British top player Mark Gray (GBR) his limits and defeated him quite clearly with 9:5. In the heavyweight clash between two former World Champions, Thorsten Hohmann (GER) came out on top of Huidji See (NED), winning 9:7.
Alen Muratovic (Photo: EPBF/AMM) Alen Muratovic victorious over Marko Vogelo
Young hope from Bosnia & Herzegovina wins in a heartbreak match final
Thursday, 01 March 2012: With the closest result possible, Alen Muratovic (BIH) defeated Marko Vogel (GER) with 9:8. The match was an up and down for the young hopeful from Bosnia & Herzegovina. He took a 1:0 lead over his opponent. Then, Marko Vogel who is known to be one of the fastest players on the tour shifted into overdrive and took four consecutive racks, taking a 4:1 lead over Muratovic. But the young man stayed calm and played his game. With a lot of support from the local audience, Muratovic closed the gap and was able to tie the match at 5:5. Then, the balls did not roll in Vogel’s favour and Muratovic started to feel his confidence. The audience did their bits and pieces and Muratovic played really strong to reach the hill, taking an 8:5 lead over Vogel. But the German veteran is known to be very experienced. He stood tall against his opponent and his numerous supporters and tied the match at 8:8, making it a heart breaking thriller. In the 17th and final rack, Vogel found himself forced to play a safety shot after the break. He did not leave a tough shot for young Alen who came to the table and ran all balls, winning the match 9:8.
Muratovic will advance to the next winner’s round while Vogel is sent to the loser’s side of the flowchart.
Other notable results include Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) winning 9:6 over Richard “Indiana” Jones (GBR). German top player and US-resident Thorsten Hohmann (GER) just made it over Andrea Klasovic (SRB) with 9:8. One upset was the victory of Konrad Piekarski (POL) who unexpectedly smashed former World Champion Oliver Ortmann (GER) with 9:7 and sent him to the loser’s side.
Ralf Souquet (GER) lining up a shot (Photo: EPBF/AMM) Souquet battles his way into next round
Dynamic Euro-Tour in Sarajevo has started today Thursday, 01 March 2012: In the first winner’s round, Ralf Souquet (GER) defeated Mats Schjetne (NOR) with 9:6 after having trailed 1:6 in the match.
The match started out as a nightmare for favoured player Souquet. He made a mistake in the first rack and then the balls did not roll to his liking anymore. While Souquet struggled for every shot, Schjetne got on a roll and put rack after rack into his account, coming to a comfortable 6:1 lead over Souquet. Then, Schjetne took a time-out. “I changed my shaft in the time out break”, said Souquet, “I have two different shafts. From tournament to tournament, one or the other plays and works a bit better for me.” Obviously, the other shaft worked better for him today. He did not make any more mistakes and was able to gain a two rack lead over Schjetne, making the score 8:6 in his favour.
Then, Souquet had a bad outcome from his own break and tried a shot which did not work the way he wanted it to. He then played a bad safety shot. But Schjetne was obviously impressed by Souquet’s performance who managed to take 7 racks off him in a row with alternate break. Schjetne got a bad position and missed the next shot, giving “The Kaiser” the opportunity to take the rack and win the match 9:6.
Other notable results include Juan Carlos Exposito (ESP) defeating Nicolas Ottermann (GER) with a margin of 8:9. Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) was successful in advancing to the next winner’s round over Balasz Miko (HUN) with 9:7. Two whitewashes could also be noted in the first winner’s round. Toni “The Tornado” Drago (MLT) crushed Faik Catibusic (BIH) 9:0 while Niels “The Terminator” Feijen (NED) handed a doughnut to his opponent, Balasz Koles (SVK).
The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP).
